One civilian was killed and five others, including four CRPF jawans, were injured in a fresh attack on an army unit in South Kashmir's Pulwama district.
The incident was reported from the Muran Chowk area of the Pulwama district, when some militants lobbed a grenade targeting a police party in the area, in which one civilian succumbed to his injuries, while another trooper remains critical, according to The Greater Kashmir.
"Militants lobed a grenade at a security force party in Muran Chowk of Pulwama town," a police official said.
Muhammad Ayoub Wani, who was injured in the explosion, later died from his injuries.
The critically injured jawan has been moved to Srinagar for advanced treatment, while others injured are being treated at the local military hospital.
"The injured paramilitary trooper, identified as Constable Daljit Kiran of 182 battalion of CRPF, has been shifted to hospital," the official said.
Of late, there has been a perceived increase in the incidents of militancy in South Kashmir region in recent months after the end of the summer unrest of 2016. Just days before this incident, three army soldiers and a civilian were killed in the neighbouring Shopian district as militants ambushed an Army patrol party. More then 29 security personnel have been killed, including some in natural calamities, just in the last two months.
The police said that around 100 locals have joined militant ranks in last one year and 59 of them joined after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed.
