An assistant sub inspector of police died during a farmer's protest in the Tarn Taran district of Punjab while attempting to flee a mob, reported CNN-IBN.
The ASI was trying to get away from the mob of farmers who had stopped his vehicle while the police was trying to clear off the protesters agitating against fuel price hike in Jiobala village.
Protestors claim that the inspector died of a heart attack after running away from a mob that had surrounded his vehicle, but there are allegations that he was beaten to death.
Further details will only be available once a post mortem report is conducted.
Tarn Taran is the same district where a group of policemen were filmed thrashing a woman and her family after she made a complaint of sexual abuse against some truck drivers.
