Terrorists will not succeed in sabotaging Indo-Pak talks, says Pakistan's defence minister

Islamabad: Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that "some elements" want to "sabotage" the Indo-Pak peace talks through terror acts but they will not succeed in their nefarious designs.

"Some elements want to sabotage the talks process between the two neighbouring countries through such terror acts but they would not succeed in their nefarious designs," he said.

Asif said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in a telephonic contact have agreed that a cordial relationship was the most appropriate response to the terrorists, Radio Pakistan reported on Wednesday.

He said Indian leadership has not levelled any allegation on Pakistan regarding the Pathankot airbase terror attack.

To a question, he said that Pakistan itself was a victim of terrorism and fighting a successful war against the menace.

Heavily-armed terrorists last week attempted to storm the Air Force base in Pathankot. The attackers were believed to have infiltrated from Pakistan and there was speculation that they may belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad headed by Maulana Masood Azhar of the Kandahar hijack episode.
