The Revenue Department issued a notification making it mandatory for all citizens to have Aadhaar card for accessing government services.  The official said if somebody has enrolled for National Population Registrar (NPR), then he or she can access the services producing the NPR details.

He said people not having Aadhaar number at present will be able to access government services on enrolment of the same at designated Aadhaar registration centres.

"With the enrolment details, government will provide the services to the applicants," the official said.

As per official figure, 1.3 crore people in the city have already enrolled for Aadhaar, out of whom 1.20 crore people have been issued Aadhaar number. Delhi has a population of 1.68 crore.

Divisional Commissioner Dharam Pal said government was in the process of linking all major services with the Aadhaar database to ensure transparency in governance.  Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has been pushing for linking the services with Aadhaar database to avoid duplication and ensure that only intended people get benefit of various welfare schemes.

The official said Aadhaar will be mandatory for availing all government services like property registration, marriage registration, issuance of ration card, domicile certificate and pension benefits.
