Eyewitnesses said the stampede broke out when a woman and a girl fell down. Police, however, claimed it was not a case of stampede.

“A 30-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl were killed as they slipped while returning from the temple. Thirteen others got injured in the same way,” Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vijay Yadav told PTI.

The injured were referred to Bhopal and Sehore hospitals, police said.

Senior district officials have reached the spot to monitor the situation, which is said to be under control.
