Panaji: Maharashtra Government is considering to exclude live music performers at hotels in the state from the ambit of entertainment tax, Tourism Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Friday said.
“The musicians performing at hotels and restaurants may be brought out of the ambit of entertainment tax and entertainment duty and some corrective measures will be taken immediately,” Bhujbal said at 47th annual convention of Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations (FHRAI) here.
He said Maharashtra Government will review archaic laws like Entertainment Duty Act, 1923 and bring necessary amendments. FHRAI President Kamlesh Barot said many traditional, local musicians of Maharashtra, who otherwise could have been gainfully employed by hotels and restaurants, were falling under the ambit of these laws and facing unemployment.
