3.05pm: The Times Now channel quoting sources, says that Abu Jindal alias Abu Hamza was the head of Lashkar-e-Taiba's India operations. Hamza was reportedly elevated to lead the operations as a reward for handling the 26/11 terror attacks.

2:30 pm: Home Minister P Chidambaram confirms that the Delhi police has arrested Syed Zabiuddin alias Abu Jindal but refuses to give any further details about the matter.

1:30 pm: The Bangalore police commissioner has been quoted as saying that they will be keen on interrogating Zabiuddin when they can.

"He was behind Indian Institute of Science attack in Bangalore..we want to investgate," Jyotiprakash Mirji was quoted as saying by a television channel.

Mumbai police which was the investigating agency in the 2008 terror strikes also reportedly wants to interrogate Zabiuddin for his alleged involvement in the case and could also send a team across to Delhi.

12:50 pm: India's Foreign Minister SM Krishna congratulates the Delhi police on the arrest and said they would await the results of the investigation before seeking action from Pakistani authorities.

The Delhi police has been doing a magnificent job and let us await the results of the investigation, Krishna told reporters in Delhi today.

"First let the the Delhi police go through the investigation. They will send a report to the government and then we will see what appropriate follow up action can be taken," Krishna said.

12:33 pm: A major factor for the police will be getting Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, the sole arrested gunman in the 26 November, 2008 to check whether Zabiuddin is the Pakistani handler who taught them Hindi and participated in their training.

As far as voice evidence against Zabiuddin goes, it is unlikely the police will be able to verify it since he cannot be asked to give information that goes against him. Police authorities are reportedly verifying his identity to be certain that he is the person accused in multiple terror strikes across the country.

Here are some details about the cases in which Zabiuddin may be charged in and is wanted for interrogation.

12.00pm: Police are reportedly conducting various identification tests to determine if the man they have arrested on suspicion of being one of the main architects of the 26/11 attacks. The man who is believed to be Abu Jindal and sometimes goes by the name Abu Hamza, will undergo photographic tests, a voice test and a DNA test. The police are currently being extremely tight-lipped about how they arrested him, or any other information in this regard.

11.45am: Abu Hamza who was arrested on suspicion of being a key handler in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks is currently being interrogated by the Intelligence Bureau and the Delhi police. CNN IBN reported that the "multi faceted and multi pronged" interrogation is likely to continue until at least 5 July.

Police forces are expected to carry out a voice identification test, as his voice is believed to be that heard on audio records, talking the gunmen through the horrific attacks. In the intercepted calls, he was also heard using typical Hindi words like “prashasan” (government) and was directing the terrorists to conceal their Pakistani identity and identify themselves from Deccan Mujahideen hailing from Toli Chowk in Hyderabad.

The arrest of Hamza, who is believed to be an India expert and central to the operations of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, will help security agencies learn more about the central workings of these terror groups. The Mumbai police is also likely to come to Delhi, seek remand and take Hamza away for questioning.

11.15am: The Delhi police claim they have nabbed one of the handlers of the gunmen who participated in the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. Abu Hamza, identified as one of the persons who reportedly gave instructions to the gunmen involved in the Mumbai terror strikes on 26 November, 2008, has been arrested.

Syed Zabiudin, who allegedly goes by the alias Abu Hamza, was reportedly nabbed by the special cell of the Delhi police at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, CNN IBN reported.

The channel reported that he had been arrested on 21 June when he landed in India.

Times Now said that Jabiudin, who is reportedly from originally from Beed district in Maharashtra, had been deported from Saudi Arabia and was nabbed when he landed in India.

He was initially arrested on charges of possessing a fake passport but will be taken to locations like Mumbai and Bangalore for further questioning by police authorities there.

Zabiudin has been accused of being involved in the training of the gunmen who participated in the Mumbai terror strikes, and also speaking with them to motivate them as they held pitched gun battles with security forces in locations like Chabad House and hotels like the Taj and Oberoi.

According to the officials associated with the probe, Ansari had told the gunmen carrying out attack in Chabad House to convey to the media that the “attack was a trailer and the entire movie was yet to come”.
