Mahajan was abducted by armed persons while he was on his way to his Delhi residence in a chauffeur-driven vehicle early this morning around 1 am, CNN-IBN reported.

The police have not ruled out the possibility of family members being behind the incident.

“There are disputes in the Mahajan family. Rakesh and Sudhir Mahajan are brothers who are engaged in a property dispute,” said senior police official K Satyanarayan of Uttar Pradesh police.

Among the other aspects of the incident police are probing is the fact that the industrialist’s driver had been appointed recently.

According to reports, the abductors have demanded a ransom of Rs two crore to release Mahajan.
