India, Pakistan must display political maturity to resolve Kashmir issue, says Hurriyat

By

Srinagar: The Hurriyat Conference on Friday expressed hope that the dialogue process between India and Pakistan would be carried forward as people of Kashmir are desirous of friendly relations between the two countries.

Chief of its moderate faction Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the resolution of Kashmir issue will help the two countries to reach a consensus on other outstanding issues like Sir Creek, Siachen, water and trade.

"Sincerity and seriousness is imperative for resolving all outstanding issues including Kashmir," the Mirwaiz said addressing a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

He said the political leadership of the two countries needs to raise above mere statements and demonstrate "political farsightedness" and "maturity" and take "solid steps" to resolve Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the amalgam's hardline faction said it was not surprised by the suspension of dialogue.

Reacting to Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit's statement that the peace process with India was "suspended", Hurriyat said unless India gives up its "unrealistic approach", the dialogue between the two countries will always be considered as a "time consuming exercise" and "no positive outcome" can be expected from it.

He said the key for peace, prosperity and development in the sub-continent lies in the resolution of Kashmir issue.
