Dr Sharma, an elephant specialist from Assam was here for two days. He started Bijlee’s treatment. She suffers from an irreversible joint problem and is overweight thanks to an extremely unsuitable diet. Image courtesy: Shormistha Mukherjee

Doctor Sharma discusses Bijlee's situation with his team. The vet doesn’t think she’ll be able to cope with a move. So she is still at Raja Industrial Estate, Mulund. A shed has been constructed for her so she can stay dry and her treatment can continue. She is not out of danger, but at least she seems to be more comfortable than she was. This is an 18-year-old elephant, Laxmi who is also obese like Bijlee. In fact Dr Sharma says at this rate Laxmi might have the same complications as Bijlee in a few years. Image Courtesy: Shormistha Mukherjee
