IAS officer arrested for molesting woman on train, says he’s framed

by Oct 1, 2012

Lucknow: A senior Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh government was arrested on Monday for molesting a woman on board the Lucknow Mail, police said.

The arrest was made by the Railway Police after the woman, who was on board the Lucknow Mail train, lodged a formal complaint on arrival in Lucknow, according to police.

Inspector General of Police (Railways) Ashutosh Pandey confirmed to IANS that senior IAS officer Shashi Bhushan was arrested on charges of molestation.

Bhushan has alleged he was framed. Screen grab from CNN-IBN.

The arrested bureaucrat has been identified as the Special Secretary (Technical Education) with the Uttar Pradesh government. The victim, an executive with Google India, has alleged that the official molested her on board the train when she was travelling with her mother-in-law.

The official, however, denied the charges and said they have been concocted by the woman after he had a tiff with her over storing luggage.

CNN IBN quoted the official as saying that the woman has used a casteist slur against him.

“I accidentally dropped some of her luggage and we started arguing. She used a casteist slur against me,” Bhushan reportedly said.
