Grenade blast in Guwahati, 2 injured

A grenade was hurled from a black Tata Safari in the busy Ganeshguri area in Guwahati today evening injuring two people.

“It was a grenade blast and two people are injured including autorickshaw driver Deben Deka. The other person is identified Mantu Rajnath. One auto-rickshaw and a Maruti 800 are damaged in the blast. The wounded have been shifted to the Gauhati Medical College,” said Inspector General of Police, Northern Division, GP Singh.

“We need to verify who is behind the blast. We need to investigate then only we can come to a conslusion,” said Guwahati city, Senior Superintendent of Police, Apurba Jibon Baruah.

The place and timing of the blast assumes significance due to its proximity to the state secretariat. The Assam Budget Session also starts from Thursday.

The state is already put on high alert following the blast.
