Kolkata: Urging the Union government to take “concrete steps” to tackle the ongoing violence in Assam, West Bengal Left Front on Friday requested the state government to take necessary measures to look after the refugees who are coming from Assam.
“The prime minister will be visiting Assam. The central government should take concrete and serious steps to tackle the situation and stop the ongoing violence in Assam,” said Left Front chairman Biman Bose.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday said the central government sent the army late to the violence-hit districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri, where communal conflict has claimed 45 lives and left 2.9 lakh people homeless.
Bose also requested the state government to look after the “lakhs of refugees”, who are entering West Bengal.
“The state government should take proper administrative measures to tackle the situation. They should take steps to look after the refugees entering Bengal,” he said.
Calling the situation in violence-ravaged areas of Assam “shocking”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday pledged support to the displaced people.
“The situation in Kokrajhar and other violence-hit districts of Assam is shocking. Lot of people are crossing over to Bengal from Assam following the violence. We will provide shelter to them,” Banerjee had said.
