Students and staff of Modern School in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar locality were evacuated on Thursday afternoon after a caller claimed that a bomb had been planted in the school, which later turned out to be a hoax.
According to Delhi fire services officials, they got a call around 1.15 pm on Thursday, following which teams were sent to the school and students and teachers were evacuated. Bomb disposal squads inspected the premises thoroughly, but failed to detect anything unusual. Around 2.50 pm, the Delhi police declared it a hoax call.
Police were trying to trace the caller. A police source said that the call was received on one of the landlines, following which the school authorities informed the police. Soon, the school was locked down and students evacuated through one gate.
“A bomb call was received regarding Modern School at Vasant Vihar. ACP & SHO with staff at school. All evacuated with help of teachers and students. Anti-sabotage check being undertaken to trace device if any. So far situation is normal,” (sic) DCP (South Delhi) Prem Nath tweeted around 2.30 pm.
