Assam floods: See what Shinawatra did in Thailand, Mr PM

Social networking sites can become real scrutinisers. Even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi gave a whirlwind visit to the flood hit state of Assam on Monday, many were not happy with the nature of visit. And this was aptly expressed in Facebook.

During their visit, the duo from New Delhi did not meet the flood affected people. Instead they chose to have an aerial view of a few places in upper Assam. This kind of aerial visits by who’s who in the government is nothing new during the time of floods.

People protest, the opposition criticises and the matter is over within a short time.

However, a comparison of two pictures are doing the rounds on Facebook. One of images show Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra visiting people during the country’s worst flood in November 2011.

The image shows Shinawatra personally distributing relief items in flood hit places and even wading through flood water wearing Wellington boots. This image has been compared with Singh in the company of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi flying over flood affected areas in the comfort of a chopper.

The comparative image is named Sobieu Kotha Koi meaning even images speak.

So far, 79 people perished in the Assam floods that wrecked havoc in 27 districts affecting 12,33,970 people.
