The Home Minister was addressing a GoM meeting in Chandigarh as part of a nationwide tour. “Any incident of molestation against any woman or child is highly condemnable and cannot be taken lightly”, he said.

The Minister added that he had not heard the comments made by the Assam police chief, but said that if he had indeed, made light of the incident, action would be taken.

Referring to the incident as extremely shocking, Chidambaram said that he hoped that strong action would be taken against those found guilty and said he would ask the Assam Chief Minister what action was being taken.
