Afzal Guru, convicted of plotting the 2001 terror attack on the Indian parliament was hanged today at 8.00 am in the Tihar jail after President Pranab Mukherjee rejected his mercy plea.

Meanwhile, curfew has been clamped in many areas in Jammu and Kashmir, including capital Srinagar. Afzal was awarded death sentence by a Delhi court on 18 December, 2002 after being convicted of conspiracy to attack Parliament on 13 December, 2001.
