It's a big day for students who appeared for medical entrance exams. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Aiims) exam results are to be declared on Tuesday.
Clearing the test paves the way for a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in one of the most elite medical institutions of the country.
While estimates say that nearly two lakh students appeared for the Aiims entrance exam on 29 May this year, only 672 seats are available. According to a report in Jagran Josh, Aiims Delhi currently has 72 seats, while the six newly-setup Aiims in Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Raipur and Bhubaneshwar have 100 seats each.
After the results are declared, the next step is counselling. A cut-off is issued and a merit list is prepared. Those who make it to the merit list are called in for counselling, where the students discuss their institute preferences.
The tentative dates for the counselling session, that will be held in three phases, are from 4 to 6 July, then on 4 August and finally on 6 September. If another session is needed, it will be scheduled for 27 September.
Meanwhile, the results for the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) exam, that was conducted on 5 June, was declared on Monday. JIPMER results can be checked on http://jipmer.edu.in/.
