A Christmas pleasure outing turned tragic in Thiruvallar Tamil Nadu, when a fishing boat carrying 25 people on a pleasure outing capsized in the Pulicat lake. Fourteen people have been confirmed dead, while another eight are still missing. Three people have been rescued, and rescue operations are still ongoing. However police say the chances of finding more people alive are slim.

The boatman who was among the three survivors has been taken into custody by police for negligence. Police say that the boat was only capable of holding ten people and the boatman should never have taken such a big crowd aboard for the trip. They have also said that the area in question was not meant for boating.
