A 16-year-old student was hospitalised in Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh after she was allegedly ragged in her college hostel where her seniors allegedly tried to strangle her.
The victim, a class XI student, has been hospitalised and doctors said that her vocal cords have been severely damaged due to the incident, CNN IBN reported.
She was staying in the hostel of Gayatri Junior College at Gotlam in Vijayanagaram district.
The girl, Shamili, was admitted after senior students in the hostel attempted to strangle her on 19 July.
According to the girl, senior girl students had ragged her when she was alone in her hostel room.
The girl has alleged that her roommates had gone for dinner and while there was no power in the hostel she was attacked by some students in the dark. The attackers allegedly attemtped to strangle her with a rope and the marks were visible on her neck.
Her parents have alleged that the college authorities had shown no concern for their daughter.
"The college authorities didn't even enquire about Shamili's conditon after she was admitted to hospital. We were asked to take her away and that was it," Venkatramana, her father said.
The girl's parents have filed a police complaint.
