Wind energy in Arunachal can be tapped: Tuki

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today emphasised on chalking out mechanism to tap the massive potential of renewable energy in the state. “Our hill locks, mountains and river banks has enormous potential for developing wind energy which if rightly harnessed can generate good revenue,” Tuki said while delivering a speech here this morning on the occasion of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas.[caption id=“attachment_423655” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/nabamtuki_PIB3801.jpg "nabamtuki_PIB380") Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister, Nabam Tuki. PIB[/caption] He added that identifying certain places like Pasighat, Sela Pass in Tawang, Hawa Camp near Kimin as some potential areas where proposal for wind energy generation could be effectively worked out. The chief minister appreciated Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) for advocating the essence of the development of new and renewable energy like solar, wind, bio-mass, hydro, etc for the future energy security of the nation. He advised the agency to create more and more awareness amongst the children in order to promote these sources of energy. “The very purpose of the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas is to create awareness among the public especially through the children by involving millions of them because they are the most effective media and they are going to be future leaders in different fields. An aware child can create awareness in a household, an aware household can aware a community and an aware community can aware a nation,” Tuki emphatically said. He congratulated the winners of various competitions organised by APEDA to mark the occasion. “Let us pledge today to put our energy in developing and promoting renewable energy in order to make our state and the country self reliant, self sufficient, strong and prosperous in the days to come. I believe this will be a befitting tribute to our great visionary leader Rajiv Gandhi,” Tuki asserted. Power (Electrical) and Rural development Minster Tanga Byaling underscored the need to promote the renewable and hydro power energy for economic development of the state and the nation. He disclosed that despite the state having abundant natural resource, it has to procure power to the tune of Rs 200 crore every year to meet up the state’s power supply demand. “Arunachal Pradesh has the potential to generate huge energy in the form of hydro, bio-mass, wind and Solar, which can change the state’s scenario in the years to come,” Byaling said while calling for concerted efforts to realise these prospects.
