Virbhadra resigns as Congress’ Himachal chief

Shimla, Jan 1 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has resigned as president of the Congress’s state unit, a party leader said Tuesday.

Party general secretary and in charge of party affairs in Himachal Pradesh Birender Singh told reporters that Virbhadra Singh has resigned from the post.

On the day he took oath as the chief minister Dec 25, Virbhadra Singh had declared that he would soon quit the party post, which he took over in August last year, two months ahead of the assembly polls.

He is still a member of the Lok Sabha, which post he will now quit.
