The chief minister was speaking at the 51st Teachers’ Day celebrated in Jorhat.

“Teachers are the real moulders of society and they are the ones who can help build a prosperous and progressive society,” he said.

Urging teachers to gain new knowledge, Gogoi said, “Learning is a continuous process and teachers must imbibe new knowledge to pass on to students to broaden their mental outlook and vision towards life.”

The chief minister said education can help solve all problems be it poverty, unemployment and illiteracy. It can bring about a congenial atmosphere by spreading the messages of peace, love and understanding among all segments of the population, he said.

“In this context, teachers have a great role to play in bringing an end to the cult of violence and ushering in durable and lasting peace in the state through the powerful medium of education,” he said.

Stating education can bring about a revolution in the socio-economic sphere and not agitation, the chief minister said the government has initiated a slew of measures to bring about qualitative changes in the education sector.

The government would set up a Teachers’ Advisory Council and Teachers-Guardians’ Coordination Committee to tone up the education system, Gogoi said.

To inculcate a scientific temperament among students, the government is contemplating setting up of science clubs, he said.
