Taiwan breaks world record for rice planting

by Aug 19, 2012

London, Aug 19 (IANS) A group of over 1,000 farmers in Taiwan has smashed the world record for planting rice, the Daily Mail reported.

The 1,215 competitors in Taoyuan county transplanted 2.1 hectares of rice in just 16 minutes and 20 seconds.

They beat the old record set in Thailand in 2010, when 904 people planted rice in 1.6 hectares in 35 minutes and 35 seconds.

The oldest farmer taking part in Taiwan was 91 years old while the youngest was 16.
