Sonia thanks Mulayam in Lok Sabha

Aug 31, 2012

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi today thanked Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for facilitating uninterrupted power supply to her constituency Rae Bareli and Rahul Gandhi‘s Parliamentary seat Amethi.

Gandhi walked up to Yadav in the Lok Sabha soon after the House was adjourned for the first time in the morning on the coal block allocation issue. She thanked him for the gesture of the SP government in Uttar Pradesh.

Sonia Gandhi thanked Mulayam Singh for uninterrupted power supply in Amethi and Rae Bareli.

An official communication to UP Power Corporation Limited on Tuesday said that the urban areas of these towns would now be exempted from power cuts and they would enjoy round-the-clock power supply.

According to sources, the matter was taken up by Gandhi personally with Yadav in an interaction in Parliament on the same day. Besides Lucknow and Agra, the SP bastions of Etawah, Mainpuri and Kannauj enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

The issue was a major concern for the Congress leadership as the electorate of these areas had been continuously demanding it for a long time and the issue had also been a bone of contention during the previous BSP government.
