Ghaziabad, Oct 12 (IANS) A day after a shooting incident in the Ghaziabad court complex, security was beefed up Friday following inspection of the civil court compound here by an administrative judge from Allahabad High Court.
District Magistrate Aparna Upadhyay said that after Justice D.P. Singh’s visit, certain measures were adopted to make the court compound safe. Entries of cars into the compound has been stopped.
Metal detectors have been installed at all entry points and armed guards have been deployed on each floor of the main building.
Video conferencing of criminals who are under threat from rival gangs is also being considered in hearing of cases.
A criminal, Udham Singh, being taken for a case hearing Thursday was shot at by three men dressed as lawyers. Four people were injured in the attack. Singh sustained bullet injury on his face. He has 47 cases registered against him.
Police retaliated by shooting one of the attackers, after which two of them surrendered while one managed to escape.
In 2001, three men were shot dead in the court complex. Nithari serial killings accused Maninder Singh Pandher was also attacked here. So was Rajesh Talwar, father of Aarushi, who was murdered along with their domestic help Hemraj in 2008 in Noida.
“Keeping these incidents in mind, permanent security measures are being considered. Screening of vehicles and frisking of visitors have been ordered,” Upadhyay said.
