PETA names bullock after Amitabh’s favourite screen name

Oct 11, 2012

Nashik: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who is celebrating his 70th birthday on Thursday, has been an inspiration for PETA which has named a rescued bullock after his famous screen title ‘Vijay’.

The acting legend, who has portrayed characters named Vijay in 20 odd films, has been named PETA’s ‘Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity’ for three years in a row.

The bullock was named after Bachchan’s famous screen name as the actor is a vegetarian and thus saves animals, a People for Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA) official said in a release.

The bullock, now named Vijay, had been severely overworked and was very weak when a voluntary organisation Animal Rahat rescued it in Sangli district of Maharashtra.

The animal was suffering from tick infection and anaemia and was treated by veterinary doctors. Animal Rahat offers free aid to bullocks working in sugar mills, donkeys in brick kilns and horses pulling carts.
