Locals to be banned from casinos in Goa?

Jul 4, 2012

Panaji: Goans and people below 21 years of age could soon be banned from casinos in Goa under a bill to be tabled in the forthcoming session of the state assembly, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Wednesday.

Parrikar was speaking to reporters at the state secretariat after a cabinet meeting.

Goans might be banned from casinos in their town.

“I cannot say much about this right now because we will be introducing the bill in the assembly session. What we are looking at is banning entry of youth below the age of 21 years and of local Goans into casinos,” Parrikar said.

The chief minister said that the move was aimed at checking the problem of local people and youngsters wasting money on gambling.

Goa has six operational offshore casinos floating in the Mandovi river off Panaji, and more than a dozen onshore casinos housed in numerous five-star hotels and resorts located in the state’s coastal areas.
