Kerala to take student innovators to tour Silicon Valley

Kochi: The process to select five students to tour Silicon Valley in March and meet IT wizards like the founders of Facebook and Google, as promised by Kerala Chief Minister Ooomen Chandy, has begun.

The students—schools, Engineering and arts colleges, who wish to participate in the selection process will have to upload their innovative ideas on the Youtube — and five of them would be selected to make the trip to Silicon Valley, the cradle of tech revolution in Northern California of the US.

Today, Startup Village, entrusted by the State Government to choose these kids, formally launched the competition named ‘SV Square’ (Startup Village to Silicon Valley), a press release here said. Asha Jadeja of Rajeev Motwani Foundation from Silicon Valley, which is partnering with Startup Village for this initiative, formally announced the competition during her visit to India’s first telecom incubator here at the Kinfra Hi-tech Park.

Chandy had recently announced this ambitious programme during his visit to Startup Village to provide right exposure to the bright kids and thereby motivate the younger generation to innovate and turn entrepreneurs.

As part of the competition, which formally opens from Feb 1 and ends on Feb 10, students need to upload video spanning two to three minutes on their innovative projects/ideas on the Youtube. An eminent jury chaired by Prof Anil Gupta of IIM-A representing academia and former NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik, representing the industry, will select the winners based on these videos.Applications will be accepted from Feb one to 10th at website  www.svsquare.in.

The winners would be formally announced on Feb 15 and the selected students will travel to the cradle of technology in March when they will get a first-hand experience of Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area, and will interact with revolutionary IT minds at the Rajeev Circle gathering, that is held by Rajeev Motwani Foundation.
