JD(U) going alone in UP polls: Nitish

Feb 6, 2012

Patna: JD(U) is contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election without alliance with any political party, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said today.

“It is not necessary that there should be an alliance or understanding with other political parties in every election. JD(U) is contesting UP polls independently,” the senior party leader told reporters in Patna.

JD-U, which is part of NDA, has not tied up with even BJP in the state after talked broke down with its alliance partner.

JD-U chief Sharad Yadav had said on Sunday that if former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in good condition, the JD(U)-BJP alliance would not have broken. He had, however, stated that despite differences, JD(U) would remain an NDA constituent.

Asked to comment on Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra campaigning in Uttar Pradesh, the Bihar chief minister said everybody had the right to do so.

To a query on the recent development concerning Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in connection with 2G scam, Kumar said it was for the court to decide.

“I don’t want to make any comment,” he added.
