Kalyani (Kolkata), Feb 2 (IANS) Ten-man East Bengal weathered a determined performance from Pailian Arrows before nudging out the latter 2-1 in the 19th round of the I-League here at the Municipal Stadium Saturday.

Arrows started the brighter of the two and took the lead through Alwyn George

However goals from Nigerian Edeh Chidi, who scored a penalty, and Lalrindika Ralte helped East Bengal scrape past the Academy side.

The only notable incident in the second half was the sending off of substitute forward Manandeep Singh in the 75th minute, after which East Bengal endured the remaining time with 10 men and conserved the lead to ensure the full quota of points.

East Bengal reached the top of the standings with 39 points from 19 matches while Arrows remain on 19 points from 18 matches.
