Kolkata: About 6000 people yesterday turned up to see Dutch legend Ruud Gullit who stole the show at Mohun Bagan’s annual day function that awarded former star defender Jarnail Singh it’s Ratna (jewel).
Jarnail’s three daughters — Kulwinder Kaur, Jaswinder Kaur and Narinder Kaur – came to receive the honour from the club president Swapan Sadhan Bose.

Impressed with the response from the crowd, Gullit said: “I read the history of the club where I found how the game of football became a symbol of revolt against the oppression of the English.”
The state association also felicitated the Bengal cricket team.
Bengal all-rounder Laxmi Ratan Shukla won the newly instituted Sailen Manna Memorial Award for the best sportsperson of the club.
The Mohun Bagan cricket team, which won four out of the five local tournaments under Cricket Association of Bengal in the last season, was also felicitated.
