Documentary: The Sound of Old Rooms

Sep 18, 2012

The Sound of Old Rooms is a painstakingly made documentary, filmed over 20 years. The narrative of the documentary follows a man named Sarthak, down 20 years, as he struggles with the practicalities of raising a family and his desire of becoming a poet.

Director Sandeep Ray’s subject had the time to go out for a drink or two when he was in college, even discuss his writings. Now, with a family and the demands of work, he struggles to realise his dream. The run-down home he lives in is populated with his mother, his wife and his son – it’s too cramped to sit and ruminate over anything.

The Sound of Old Rooms.

Sarthak takes the viewers down through Kolkata’s bars, apartments and alleyways as he tries to understand life and find meaning in his work
