New Delhi: Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel today asked BHEL to diversify in other areas of infrastructure, apart from power and railways, and expand its footprint overseas as well.
In a review of the company, Praful advised BHEL to explore possibilities of diversification in both related and unrelated areas, including Mass Rapid Transport systems, water treatment, an official statement said.
He also asked BHEL to formulate strategies to increase its presence in the export markets.
Praful advised the company to gear up for the future to face competition from the domestic as well as overseas companies.
He directed the setting up of focused working groups for having increased synergy between BHEL and other PSUs of Department Heavy Industry.
The minister also called for a detailed report on the company's forays in the renewable energy sector.
BHEL has commissioned thermal and hydro power equipment, with a cumulative capacity of 7,900 MW this fiscal, it had synchronised 8,108 MW capacity in the last fiscal (2010-11).
It received total orders of 31,560 MW for power plant equipment during 2009-10 and 2010-11.
The company has the capability to deliver 15,000 MW per annum and further augmentation to 20,000 MW per annum is underway.
