New Delhi: In the first of its kind initiative, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) will hold a public hearing tomorrow on the issue of allowing foreign
direct investment in retail sector.
People from various traders' organisation, market associations, consumer organisations and civil society were likely to participated during the hearing and its outcome would be sent to Delhi government as it has expressed its
willingness to allow FDI in retail, a release from the EDMC said.
"Delhi government is not in a position to implement FDI in retail as it doesn't have majority. And EDMC is an important ally on this as it the licences were given by it," said EDMC Mayor Annapurna Mishra.
Following the Centre's decision to allow FDI in retail many states had opposed it but others, including Delhi, have expressed willingness to open their doors.
