London, Jan 8 (IANS) A happily married couple for 70 years in Britain has revealed their secret of marital bliss — “have a blazing row every day”.
Edwin and Mary Daubney met in 1942. The chance meeting took place over an argument between Edwin and a friend about who should ask Mary for the last waltz at a town hall dance, Daily Express reported.
Today, Edwin, 93, and Mary, 89, say their daily spats have continued ever since, like bickering over petty things such as who left the lights on and whose turn it is to tidy up.
After celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary last weekend with family in Glossop, a market town in Derbyshire, Edwin told of the magic phrase that has kept them together: “You’re right, dear.”
Mary said: “We only bicker over silly things really but those little rows keep us happier because everything is in the open. There are no secrets between us and nobody is brooding or sulking. We have a little disagreement and then we move on.”
“Despite our tiffs we are still as firmly in love as ever,” she says.
The couple met each other in Hessle town where Edwin was stationed with the Army during World War II and Mary used to work in an aircraft munitions factory. They married eight months later.
Today, Edwin and Mary are happy to have a family of four children, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
