Kolkata: The BSF is planning to have floating border outposts (BOPs) in the Sunderbans area of West Bengal and in coastal areas of Gujarat, a senior official said today.
"We have six floating BOPs in our mind for Sunderbans area and another six for the Gujarat area. Six have already been sanctioned. The ministry is in the process of identifying the government undertaking which will produce these floating BOPs," Director General of BSF Subhash Joshi said.
Quizzed on reports of exodus of Bangladeshis into India following the recent upheaval in that country, Joshi said, "We are a border guarding force and we are ready for all kinds of challenges."
Joshi lauded the use of non-lethal weapons by the force as it has brought down the number of casualties.
"We have taken a conscious decision that we need more such non-lethal weapons as use of such weapons has drastically brought down the casualties and injuries in border areas," he said.
