Albania celebrates 100 years of independence

Albania is celebrating its 100th anniversary of independence with national flag blanketing city squares, apartment buildings and public institutions.

Wednesday’s celebrations will start in the southern city of Vlore where Albanian notables declared the country’s independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1912.

Albania is now a parliamentary democracy, a member of the United Nations and NATO and has applied for the European Union membership.
