AIADMK to vote against motion on FDI in retail

by Nov 20, 2012

Chennai, Nov 20 (IANS) AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa Tuesday said her party will vote against the union government’s decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi−brand retail if a motion is brought in parliament.

Speaking to reporters here, Jayalalithaa, the Tamil Nadu chief minister, said her party would vote against any motion that sought to bring FDI in retail since it was against the country’s interests.

She reiterated her government’s stance of not allowing FDI in retail in Tamil Nadu.

Asked about AIADMK’s stand on a proposed no−confidence motion against the union government in parliament, Jayalalithaa said: “So far no one has approached the AIADMK for support for any no−confidence motion. If such a request comes, we’ll examine it.”

She said her party would take a call depending on the positions taken by other parties on the no−confidence motion.

On Congress projecting Rahul Gandhi as a prime ministerial candidate, Jayalalithaa said the party had the freedom and right to choose its candidate for the post of prime minister.
