London: Kevin Pietersen has been left out of England's 17-man squad for the upcoming tour of India, raising questions about his future at international level.

England management has held a series of talks with the team's star batsman over the last few weeks after he was dropped last month for sending "provocative" texts to South Africa players about then-captain Andrew Strauss.

Hugh Morris, managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board, says "as there are issues still to be resolved, Kevin has not been considered for selection for the India tour."

Opener Joe Root and fellow batsman Nick Compton, the grandson of former England great Denis Compton, were uncapped players called up.

England travels to India on 25 October for the tour, which includes four tests.
