Bengaluru: The Indian cricket team will retain its number one position in the ICC Test rankings owing to the series-levelling 75-run win in the second Test against Australia in Bengaluru.
By retaining the No 1 position till the 1 April cut-off date, Virat Kohli's men will receive a cash prize of $1 million.
"Victory in the second Test against Australia assures India a No 1 finish on the 1 April cut-off date and a cash prize of $1 million," the ICC confirmed in a tweet after India defeated Australia by 75 runs on Tuesday.
India bounced back in style to win the second Test after suffering a heavy defeat in the series opener at Pune.
On a pitch offering unpredictable bounce for the pacemen and sharp turn for the spinners, Australia were bundled all out for 112 in their second innings late on the fourth day after being set a victory target of 188.
India's hopes of squaring the series looked all but dead when they were dismissed for 189 in their first innings but the world's top-ranked side fought back to keep Australia within reach and then batted resolutely to set a testing target.
Ravichandran Ashwin's five-wicket haul was the 25th for the world's top-ranked bowler, who finished with figures of 6-41 in an enthralling test match that witnessed four different bowlers pick up six wickets for a first time.
