The Indian women's cricket team are on a roll at the moment, having effortlessly won both their games in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017. They began their campaign by edging hosts England out by 35 runs, before stamping their authority over West Indies with a seven-wicket win.
In the first game, the Indian top three batswomen Punam Raut (86), Smriti Mandhana (90) and captain Mithali Raj (71) struck half-centuries to guide their side to a commanding 281/3, before Deepti Sharma (3/47) and Shikha Pandey (2/35) led the way with the ball to bowl the hosts out for 246 with two-and-a-half overs left in the second innings.
The fixture against World T20 champions West Indies was even more one-sided, with the Stafanie Taylor-led side struggling to gather runs before slumping to 183/8 in 50 overs. Mandhana then created history by becoming the youngest Indian player to score a century in the Women's World Cup, guiding the side to a comfortable seven-wicket win with an unbeaten 106 off 108 deliveries.
India next face arch-rivals Pakistan in a highly-anticipated clash on Sunday. Sana Mir-captained Pakistan's progress in the ongoing World Cup so far is in stark contrast to that of India, as they have lost to South Africa as well as England. While the Indians will be strong favourites going into this game, Raj will warn her teammates against taking the latter lightly.
