  • After 13.5 overs,Gujarat Lions 135/3 ( Suresh Raina (C) 34 , Ravindra Jadeja 2)

Back-to-back fours off Raina's bat (with a misfield by Aravind near sweeper extra-cover summing up RCB's day out), followed by a single towards the leg side brings up what eventually turned out to be a comfortable win for Gujarat Lions. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina wins back the Orange Cap in the last ball of the chase.

RCB listless. Fight seems to have gone out of them. Finch wicket too late. He did substantial damage to their morale with his 34-ball 72

  • After 13 overs,Gujarat Lions 124/3 ( Suresh Raina (C) 24 , Ravindra Jadeja 1)

Finally, a wicket for RCB as Negi dismisses Finch, with the latter failing to get his timing right while looking for another slog down towards wide long-on. Raina though, gets the big hit a couple of deliveries later, smashing down the ground — the first six of his innings.

Gujarat Lions need 11 from 42 balls

  • OUT! Finch finally departs after a gem of an innings, which puts Gujarat on the edge of a comfortable victory. Looks to slog the ball down towards wide long-on, but holes out straight to AB de Villiers, not getting the connection right in this case. GL 115/3

    Finch c de Villiers b Negi 72(34)

  • After 12 overs,Gujarat Lions 115/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 17 , Aaron Finch 72)

Chahal into his second over. Raina finally gets a boundary after quite sometime, sweeping the second ball of the over towards square-leg for a four. Finch then goes for a reverse-sweep a couple of deliveries later. 11 off the over, with Gujarat now closing in on the win.

Gujarat Lions need 20 from 48 balls

  • Peter Miller, Cricket Writer and podcaster

A 22 ball fifty from Aaron Finch and 11 from 21 balls from Raina. You could not see more contrasting innings, and Raina would have gone but for a no ball from Chahal that gave him a life. Raina’s innings has been pretty horrid but Finch has saved his blushes and this is all set for an easy win by the Lions who aren’t out of this tournament just yet.

  • Vedam Jaishankar, Journalist and commentator

RCB need to find a way to get rid of Finch. He's clobbering the bowlers at will. GL running away with the match. Brings up his fifty off 22 balls with 4 sixes and 4 fours. Really muscling it.

  • After 11 overs,Gujarat Lions 104/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 12 , Aaron Finch 66)

Negi into the attack. Another massive one from Finch in the fourth ball of the over, smashing this one high over the bowler's head. Makes it back-to-back in the next ball, this time hitting it flat towards wide long-on.

Gujarat Lions need 31 from 54 balls

  • Umang Pabari, Cricket statistician

Fastest fifties for Gujarat Lions in IPL: (By balls)

    22 - AARON FINCH v RCB, Bangalore, 2017
    26 - Dwayne Smith v DD, Delhi, 2016

  • After 10 overs,Gujarat Lions 90/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 12 , Aaron Finch 52)

FOUR! Raina reaches out for a wide, flat delivery outside off, and whacks it away towards third man for a boundary. Gets beaten by a peach of a delivery in the fourth ball of the over, with the ball continuing along its path. Raina gets caught at deep midwicket while looking for his first six, but gets a reprieve thanks to Chahal overstepping. Finch goes for a switch hit in the free-hit, and fails to connect. Eight off the over.

Gujarat Lions need 46 from 60 balls

  • After 9 overs,Gujarat Lions 81/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 6 , Aaron Finch 51)

Choudhary into his second over. Back-to-back boundaries for Finch in this over to enter the 40s, though he doesn't connect well on either occasion. SIX! Full and along middle and off, and Finch happily obliges with a flick towards wide long-on! Finch gets a single off the last ball to get to his half-century in just 22 balls, the FASTEST by a Gujarat Lions batsman. The umpire signals for the first timeout of the innings.

Gujarat Lions need 54 from 66 balls

  • FIFTY for Aaron Finch in just 22 balls! That's the fastest half-century by a Gujarat Lions batsman, and the Australian pinch-hitter gets there with a single towards third man. GL 81/2

  • After 8 overs,Gujarat Lions 62/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 5 , Aaron Finch 35)

Chahal introduced into the attack in the eighth over of the innings, and comes down the track to whack the second ball of the over towards the wide long-on boundary. 11 off the over.

Gujarat Lions need 73 from 72 balls

  • After 7 overs,Gujarat Lions 51/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 3 , Aaron Finch 26)

Aniket Choudhary is introduced in the seventh over of the innings, and gives away just two runs in a fine opening over. The team 50 comes up for Gujarat in this over. Meanwhile, both Raina and Finch have faced almost a similar number of deliveries, though the latter is about 23 runs ahead at this stage.

  • Umang Pabari, Cricket statistician

Suresh Raina has scored 572 runs from 22 innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore at an average of 31.78 which is the third most by any batsman against them in IPL before today. However, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, he has scored only 122 runs from eight innings at an average of 15.25.

  • After 6 overs,Gujarat Lions 49/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 2 , Aaron Finch 25)

Aravind bowls the final over of powerplay, and Finch makes the most of the fielding restrictions by hammering two boundaries in it — getting a top-edge towards third-man before slogging one towards long-on. 11 off the over, with the Lions having a mixed progress so far.

  • After 5 overs,Gujarat Lions 38/2 ( Suresh Raina (C) 1 , Aaron Finch 15)

Badree helps bring the fiery celebrations out from Kohli after getting McCullum dismissed in the first ball of the over, though Aaron Finch smacks two massive sixes (the first of which hits the Chinnaswamy roof) to ruin what would have been a great over for the West Indian leggie.

  • Vedam Jaishankar, Journalist and commentator

McCullum had to face Badree some time. The Kiwi murders medium pacers and fast bowlers. But looked at loss against Badree. Terrific wicket for RCB. Sets the match. GL have to attack or pressure will get to them

  • OUT! McCullum looks to loft the first ball of the fifth over down the ground, though he doesn't quite connect well, and ends up getting caught by ABD at long-on! GL 23/2

    McCullum c de Villiers b Badree 3(6)

  • After 4 overs,Gujarat Lions 23/1 ( Brendon McCullum 3 , Suresh Raina (C) 1)

Aravind into his second over. Couple of close chances for Raina in this over. First an lbw appeal that was turned down by the umpire first ball. Then Raina nearly chops the fourth delivery onto his stumps. A wide and a no-ball follow, though he doesn't give anything away in the free-hit that follows. Four off the over.

  • Vedam Jaishankar, Journalist and commentator

Ishan kishan's attempt to throw Badree off length and play disruptor at the top didn't work. Good early wicket for RCB.

  • Peter Miller, Cricket Writer and podcaster

RCB need something ridiculous from their bowlers here, and that opening over from Samuel Badree was not that. Kishan was moved up to open and that was a real vote of confidence in the young man. Still, having McCullum and Finch out there would surely make more sense. It further exemplifies how the Lions are still searching for a winning line up with the season more than halfway done.

  • After 3 overs,Gujarat Lions 19/1 ( Brendon McCullum 2 , Suresh Raina (C) 1)

Badree continues. Bowls a short one to Ishan and is hammered through square leg for a boundary. Badree comes back with vengeance and gets rid of Ishan with the next ball. Suresh Raina is the new man in. Six runs and a wicket from that over.

  • OUT! Ishan Kishan is trapped in front of the wickets by Badree

Ishan Kishan lbw b Badree 16(11)

  • After 2 overs,Gujarat Lions 13/0 ( Ishan Kishan 12 , Brendon McCullum 1)

Aravind bowls the second over and has the GL batsmen in trouble from the first ball itself as he beats McCullum outside the off. McCullum gives room on the next ball. Misses again. Could have gone on to the stumps. Extra bounce there saved the batsman. Ishan then has the ball going past the outside edge of his bat. There is a muted appeal from the RCB bowlers. No bat touch though. Ishan then punches one of the back foot through cover for another boundary, and then plays and misses off the last ball.

  • After 1 overs,Gujarat Lions 8/0 ( Ishan Kishan 8 , Brendon McCullum 0)

A positive start by the Lions in the first over. The first two balls skid off the surface and then on the second ball, Ishan rocks back and pulls. Mandeep tries his best at long on to stop the boundary, but he seems to have touched the ropes. Ishan gets a boundary off the last ball too and he playts an off drive to the fence. Eight runs from the first over.

This is the first time Royal Challengers Bangalore have been bowled out in two consecutive matches in IPL.

The lowest total defended by Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL in a full 20 overs match is 126 which they defended against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk in 2008.

  • After 20 overs,Royal Challengers Bangalore 134/10 ( Aniket Choudhary 15 , )

Faulkner to bowl the final over of the innings. Thick inside-edge off Aravind's bat in the second ball of the innings, nearly chopping it onto his stumps. Aravind holes out while looking for a six in the fourth ball, getting caught by McCullum near long-on. Chahal walks out to bat, and is run-out while coming back for a second run, with RCB getting bowled out for a sub-par 134.

  • OUT! Chahal looks to come back for a risky second run, and is well short of the striker's end as RCB are bowled out off the very last ball of the innings for a sub-par 134.

    Yuzvendra Chahal run out 1(2)

  • Peter Miller, Cricket Writer and podcaster

In 2016 the RCB top order of Gayle, De Villiers and were spoken of in hushed tones as the greatest top 3 in T20 history. Today they managed 23 runs at a strike rate of 67 between them. Gayle now switches between being godlike and terrible with zero middle ground. De Villiers looks massively short of match practice, which he is, and Kohli hasn’t found his form after that terrible series against Australia and the shoulder injury that he suffered. This should be an easy Lions win.

  • OUT! End of a fine resistance by Aravind, as he holes out to McCullum at long-on while looking for a bit hit towards the closing stages of the RCB innings. McCullum throws the ball back inside just before crossing over the rope, and ends up collecting it safely. RCB 133/9

    Aravind c McCullum b Faulkner 9(16)

  • After 19 overs,Royal Challengers Bangalore 130/8 ( Sreenath Aravind 8 , Aniket Choudhary 13)

Thampi back into the attack for the penultimate over of the innings. Choudhary gets the first boundary of the innings after five overs, whacking a full-toss outside off towards the extra-cover boundary! Gets a double in the next ball after a bit of sloppiness on Raina's part in at extra-cover. 10 off the over. Can RCB get one big over, and finish somewhere close to 150?

  • Umang Pabari, Cricket statistician

Most wickets from career's first five matches in IPL:

12 - Adam Zampa, ANDREW TYE*
11 - Shadab Jakati, Karanveer Singh, Lasith Malinga

  • After 18 overs,Royal Challengers Bangalore 120/8 ( Sreenath Aravind 6 , Aniket Choudhary 5)

Tye into his final over. Direct hit from Jakati towards the striker's stumps, though Aravind manages to get home on time. Appeal for an lbw in the last ball of the over, though the umpire doesn't seem interested, and awards a leg-bye to the home side. Four runs off the over.

  • After 17 overs,Royal Challengers Bangalore 116/8 ( Sreenath Aravind 4 , Aniket Choudhary 4)

Faulkner returns to the attack, with RCB on the verge of getting bowled out for another low score, though not as low as the one at the Eden  Gardens. Aravind and Choudhary get five runs in this over, including a leg-bye, and batting the remaining overs out would be something of a moral victory for them.

  • After 16 overs,Royal Challengers Bangalore 111/8 ( Sreenath Aravind 3 , Aniket Choudhary 1)

Tye returns to the attack, and it takes him five balls to get his third wicket. He has bowled a fantastic spell so far, getting three wickets having given away just nine runs so far, including four in this over. The home side are on the verge of getting bowled out yet again. Not much that the local fans can expect from Aravind and Choudhary, the two tailenders at the crease right now.

  • Vedam Jaishankar, Journalist and commentator

RCB are not even playing smart. That's the worry. The manner in which they are batting, without thought, could see them get all out in this T20 innings too. Would be some record. Momentum such a key ingredient in T20 cricket. Rcb learning that the hard way. 110 for 8 in 16th over

Preview: With two of their last matches witnessing a horrific batting show in Kolkata and a wash-out due to rain at home, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will hope for a turnaround when they face a struggling Gujarat Lions (GL) at Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy stadium on Thursday.

Pursuing Kolkata Knight Riders' lowly total of 131 on Sunday, RCB, boasting the star troika of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, were floored for 49 all out in 9.4 overs – IPL's lowest ever total, and lost the match by 82 runs at the Eden Gardens.

This was followed by a rain-enforced abadonement of the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It meant that RCB, sitting at the sixth spot with five points, will now have to win most of their remaining matches in order to stay in the hunt for the knock-outs.

This will be the golden opportunity for the hosts to take two crucial points as bottom-placed Gujarat too have had a poor run so far in the cash-rich Twenty20 cricket tournament. Out of seven matches, Gujarat have managed to win only two.

Comprising star-studded batting line-up, Bangalore will have an upper hand in the fixture. The home batsmen will be on their guard against Gujarat's bowlers, though the visitors lack experience and class in that department.

But in order to tame the visitors, RCB bowlers Samuel Badree, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sreenath Aravind, Tymal Mills and Adam Milne will need to raise their game.

Gujarat, on the other hand, will be banking on their Australian pacer Andrew Tye, who has taken nine wickets in four games, including a hat-trick, at a decent economy rate of 8.00. Kerala youngster Basil Thampi's ability to bowl yorkers at will has been an advantage for the Gujarat side.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is yet to fire, having taken only one wicket in the five matches so far, while veteran Praveen Kumar's lack of pace and swing has meant he has been hit at an economy rate of 10.32 over five games.

It would also be interesting to see if Irfan Pathan, who was roped in as a replacement for injured all-rounder Dwayne Bravo would be included in the playing XI.

The only positive for the Gujarat outfit is the former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum with 264 runs and Suresh Raina with 272 runs are among the top five run-getters in the tournament so far.
