22:05 (IST)

That's it from us in our coverage of the fourth ODI between India and Australia, with the visitors finally pulling off a win in the series. More importantly, they snap their losing streak, as well as India's winning run. While David Warner and Aaron Finch's knocks laid the foundation for the Australians, it was Handscomb's cameo in the death overs that proved to be the difference. The series now moves to Nagpur for the final ODI, and Australia certainly will carry the momentum of their win from this game into the finale. Let's see if they can make it 2-3. For now, it is time for us to bid you all good night!

22:00 (IST)

Our correspondent Jigar Mehta goes live outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the venue for the fourth ODI between India and Australia, discussing Australia's win.

21:58 (IST)

David Warner (Man of the Match): Feels fantastic. Has been extremely tough for us on the road, so feels nice to get a victory. To come out here and play the 50-over format is fantastic. We set out from the front and were as conservative as we could. We managed to get over 300, which I felt was good enough. Winning gets you momentum, and the way the guys played today was fantastic.

21:57 (IST)

Steve Smith, Australia captain: Nice to be on this side. Nice to get a win in. Warner and Finch were spectacular. Set us up to get 330. We lost a few wickets again. Handscomb was very good at the end. Nice little cameo to get us to 330. Nice to defend and get a win. We were probably a bit too wide with the new ball. Bowlers were a little bit off throughout but pulled things back. Nice to sit up there and watch Warner do his thing. His ODI form in the last two years has been unbelievable.

21:55 (IST)

David Warner is the Man of the Match for his 119-ball 124!

21:55 (IST)

Virat Kohli (Indian captain): Honestly, at the 30-over mark, they were going pretty strong. I thought if we can restrict them under 350, that will be a good effort, and we did that. But we needed a big partnership after that to chase it. Wasn't the best batting performance from us. People have off days. Umesh and Shami bowled well. Your spinners won't have good days always. You have to accept that. Sometimes you have to sit back and say that the opposition played well. The only respite for fast bowlers was taking the pace off the ball. The wicket played very well. It surprised all of us. Australia played much better than us today.

21:54 (IST)

I leave you with the two Aussie youngsters happy and celebrating.

21:50 (IST)

Australia finally get a win and stop India from recording their 10th consecutive win. They also break their away duck. Warner and Finch laid a solid platform and Handscomb along with Stoinis finished well. India started off well thanks to Rohit and Rahane fifties but then were jolted by two quicks wickets. There were a couple of good partnerships but probably the turning point was Jadhav and Pandey departing in quick succession. The Aussie pacers Richardson, Cummins and Coulter Nile bowled well to pick up bull of wickets. This win might have instilled much needed confidence ahead of the T20 series.

21:46 (IST)

This is the first win for Australia after having 13 consecutive ODIs without a win outside home. Moreover, this defeat ends India's streak of winning nine consecutive ODIs.    This is the first ODI match at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore that India have lost since 2004.

21:43 (IST)

After 50 overs,India 313/8 ( Mohammed Shami 6 , Umesh Yadav 2) Coulter-Nile bowls the last over of the match. Axar perishes off the first ball, getting caught at long-on. Umesh walks out to bat, and gets off the mark with a single. Shami whacks the penultimate ball of the match towards the midwicket boundary for a boundary, and misses the last ball completely as India fall short of Australia's total by 21 runs!  With this, Australia register their first victory of the tour!

21:41 (IST)

FOUR! Shami guides a full-toss towards the midwicket boundary! India 313/9

21:39 (IST)

21:38 (IST)

Superb over for the Aussies, with just five coming off it. Australia on the verge of their first win of the tour, with India needing 29 to win off the last over.

21:36 (IST)

Dead silence as Dhoni drags it on. The fans have started leaving the stadium.

21:33 (IST)

Shock at the dismissal of Dhoni. Bowled off inner edge by Richardson. Dhoni didn't have time to settle down, get his eye in and then go after the bowling.

21:33 (IST)

After 48 overs,India 301/7 ( Axar Patel 1 , Mohammed Shami 0) Richardson bowls the 48th over, with the Aussies closing in on victory at the moment. Dhoni guides the first ball towards backward point, but refuses a single. Refuses a single again next ball, this time guiding it into cover's hands. Dhoni gets an inside-edge off a slower ball. Once again a dot. Dhoni smacks the fourth ball of the over towards the wide long-off boundary in a flat hit, but drags a knuckle ball onto his leg-stump to depart for 13. Shami walks out to bat, with the last ball going for a dot. Six runs and a wicket off the over. India need 34 to win from 12 balls.

21:32 (IST)

BOWLED EM! Brilliant comeback by Richardson! Dhoni drags a knuckle ball onto his leg stump! That should signal the end of India's hopes in this match! India 301/7 Dhoni b Richardson 13(10)

21:32 (IST)

Dhoni just flat batted it over extra cover. Terrific power in that shot. Dhoni Dhoni chants start.

21:31 (IST)

40 needed off 18. A few worried faces in my stand. A deep point, a deep square leg, deep mid wicket, long on and long off for Dhoni now. Dhoni has also asked for a change of bat.

21:30 (IST)

SIX! After three dots, Dhoni viciously slaps the back-of-length slower ball towards the extra-cover boundary! India 301/6

21:28 (IST)

Very tough ask. 40 runs from three overs. But if anybody can pull it off it can only be Dhoni

21:28 (IST)

The fans from Denmark have been absolutely enjoying this thrilling encounter.

21:27 (IST)

Big wicket for Aussies. Manish bowled attempting to pull short ball from Cummins. He made 33 off 26 balls. Scrambled seam delivery that squatted and hit top of leg stump.

21:27 (IST)

Cummins strikes. It's gone from buzzing to dead silence in space of few minutes. Australia with two crucial blows seem to have clawed ahead. However, Dhoni is still there!

21:26 (IST)

After 47 overs,India 295/6 ( MS Dhoni (W) 7 , Axar Patel 1) Cummins bowls the 47th over, and knocks the top of Pandey's leg-stump to send him back for 33. Axar, the new batsman, gets off the mark with a single off the first ball he faces. Dhoni guides the third ball towards the fine-leg boundary, collecting his first four. Nearly chops the ball onto his stumps off the next two deliveries. Pulls the last delivery of the over towards long-leg for a single. India need 40 to win from 18 balls.

21:25 (IST)

The chants of 'Dhoni Dhoni' rang around even before Jadhav had left his crease. It was defeaning as Dhoni walked out to bat. A very good innings from Jadhav!

21:24 (IST)

FOUR! Dhoni guides a Cummins delivery — angling into the batsman — towards the fine-leg boundary! India 294/6

21:24 (IST)

Jadhav's 67 off 69 balls kept innings together for two partnerships and brought India into the game after loss of Rohit and Kohli. Could not muscle the ball and lobbed simple catch to wide long off

21:22 (IST)

OUT! Cummins gets rid of Pandey with a 147-kmph bolt! Clips the top of his leg-stump as Pandey departs for a quickfire 33. India's hopes starting to fade now. India 289/6 Pandey b Cummins 33(25)

Richardson fires one into the blockhole to Pandey, allowing him only a single. Jadhav returns for a second run after the ball rolls away to a vacant region after a direct hit by Warner. Jadhav perishes off the next ball, miscuing off a slower ball and getting caught at long-off. Dhoni walks out to bat to a massive reception. Dhoni gets off the mark with a double off the first ball that he faces. Seven off the over and a wicket. India need 46 off the last four overs.

21:18 (IST)

OUT! Jadhav holes out to Finch at long-off, miscuing a slower ball from Richardson! Massive blow to India's hopes, as a set batsman departs! India 286/5 Jadhav c Finch b Richardson 67(69)

21:17 (IST)

India need 54 off 31. Quite doable with the way Pandey and Jadhav are playing. India have managed to build another good partnership which has been a key to their innings so far.

21:14 (IST)

After 45 overs,India 282/4 ( Kedar Jadhav 64 , Manish Pandey 31) Pandey comes back for a second run after guiding the first delivery of Cummins' eighth over towards backward point. Guides the next ball towards third man for a single. Jadhav flashes hard at a back-of-length delivery from Cummins off the third ball, collecting his seventh four. Nice comeback by Cummins next ball, cramping Jadhav for room and giving him just a single. Yorker off the fifth ball. Leg bye off the last ball. Eight off the over. India need 53 to win from the last five overs.

21:12 (IST)

FOUR! Flashed away towards the backward point boundary by Jadhav! India 281/4

21:11 (IST)

Cummins returns to the attack in the 44th over from the Pavilion End, replacing Coulter-Nile. Meanwhile, the partnership between Jadhav and Pandey is worth 50!

21:11 (IST)

Manish Pandey has put the foot on the lever and he had to. That was a gigantic six from Pandey and he needs to continue doing that every over with a support from Jadhav from the other end. It can be a last over thriller.

21:10 (IST)

Massive blow by Manish off Coulter Nile. Picked his length ball and deposited into the stands over midwicket for a huge six.

21:10 (IST)

And all of a sudden the chants of 'Pandey, Pandey' echo inside the stadium. And Pandey obliges them with a thumping six over wide long on. The crowd is getting involved now.

21:10 (IST)

After 44 overs,India 274/4 ( Kedar Jadhav 60 , Manish Pandey 28) Pandey pushes a leg-cutter from Richardson for a single off the second ball of the over. Quick single collected by Jadhav off the next delivery. Good over by Richardson, with a total of five singles coming off it. The required run-rate now in excess of 10 for the Indians.

21:07 (IST)

Kane Richardson brought back to the attack in the 44th over. Australia desperately in search of a wicket at the moment.

21:06 (IST)

After 43 overs,India 269/4 ( Kedar Jadhav 58 , Manish Pandey 25) Coulter-Nile bowls the 42nd over. Jadhav gets a top-edge off an attempted pull, with the ball landing well short of the fielder at fine-leg, allowing the batsman two runs. Pandey smashes the ball far beyond the midwicket boundary two balls later, collecting his first six in the process. 10 off the over. India bringing the required run-rate down slightly.

21:05 (IST)

SIX! This one's disappeared into the stands beyond the midwicket boundary! The slog by Pandey was as clean a hit as it can get! India 268/4

21:05 (IST)

Silly review by Australia. They really are desperate if they expected leg before decision from a delivery pitched wide of leg stump.

21:03 (IST)

After 42 overs,India 259/4 ( Kedar Jadhav 55 , Manish Pandey 18) Zampa bowls the 42nd over of the innings. Pandya whacks the first ball inside-out for a one-bounce for towards the extra-cover fence, bringing up the 250 in the process. That is followed by a 20-minute delay due to a light shower, with the covers coming out. The Australians waste their review in a bizarre call in the first ball after the resumption of play, with the ball pitched outside leg, and missing the stump by a fair distance. Pandey ends the over with a four towards the cow-corner boundary. 12 off the over.

21:03 (IST)

FOUR! Blitzed away by Pandey towards the cow-corner boundary, beating two fielders running in from opposite directions! India 259/4

20:58 (IST)

The two umpires walk out to the middle amidst cheers. The Aussie players walk out too, along with the Indian batsmen.

20:58 (IST)

Aussie players are ready to come out to the middle.

20:53 (IST)

The stumps are being planted back. It's a bit hazy in the middle but the drizzle seems to have stopped. Ropes are being dragged onto the field to remove whatever little water is there.

20:51 (IST)

There is a buzz in the crowd as one of the covers is send back. Kohli is waiting anxiously near the boundary rope. The umpires are out in the middle and As I type the rest of covers are going off.

20:46 (IST)

The middle square is covered but more covers are coming on to cover the outfield.

20:46 (IST)

It has been a good innings from Kedar Jadhav under the circumstances such as this when your team needs more than eight runs per over but he can make this a special one by finishing the match for India. It will do a world of good for him and the team as well. India have still the dependable MS Dhoni who is known for winning matches in these kind of situations but Pandey-Jadhav would like to prove a point here by winning the match for India. It is difficult but not impossible.

20:45 (IST)

Oh dear! It has started drizzling and the covers are coming on. People are anxious that the DLS par score is 253 and India are 251 right now. It's a light drizzle right now.

20:44 (IST)

And the umpires halt play due to a light drizzle at the M Chinnaswamy. The Indian players show reluctance in walking off, with Indian captain Virat Kohli visibly baffled at the umpires' decision. Moreover, India are two runs behind in terms of the DLS par method. The interruption occurs just when the Indians were starting to find their feet after Pandya's dismissal. The rain break could very well snap their momentum.

20:41 (IST)

A couple of fans are watching a cricket match for te first time. They are from Denmark and have loved the experience so far. "Good food, good play, friendly people. A bit jet lagged though," they tell me.

20:40 (IST)

FOUR! Pandey goes inside-out off Zampa's bowling, and goes for a one-bounce four towards the extra-cover boundary! Brings up the 250 for India in the process!

20:39 (IST)

After 41 overs,India 247/4 ( Kedar Jadhav 53 , Manish Pandey 9) Coulter-Nile bowls the 41st over of the Indian innings. Jadhav flicks the last ball of the over towards deep midwicket, bringing up his half-century in the process! Seven off the over.

20:38 (IST)

FOUR! What a way for Kedar Jadhav to bring up his third ODI fifty, taking 54 deliveries to get to the milestone! Flicks the last ball of the 41st over, with the ball being too high for the fielder at midwicket to catch. India 247/4

20:36 (IST)

India can't afford to leave it too late. They need another 100 runs in 11 overs. Jadhav must step on it and make his stay count

20:31 (IST)

FOUR! Pandey doesn't let an opportunity go when he spots one. Zampa serves him a full-toss, which he pulls towards the midwicket boundary! India 237/4

20:30 (IST)

After 39 overs,India 233/4 ( Kedar Jadhav 47 , Manish Pandey 1) Coulter-Nile returns to the attack in the 39th over of the innings. Jadhav pulls the second ball through the gap between midwicket and mid-on. Jadhav then guides one towards third man for a single off the fourth ball. Pandey loses his balance while running towards the non-striker's end, eventually reaching the other side with his bat lying in the middle of the pitch. Decent over for the Indians, with six coming off it.

20:27 (IST)

FOUR! Jadhav picks the gap between midwicket and mid-on, with the ball airborne for a while! Collects his fourth boundary in the process! India 227/4

Pandya perishes off the first ball of the over, getting a top-edge that carries all the way to Warner at long-off. Manish Pandey walks out to bat, and gets off the mark with a single off the first ball that he faces. Appeal for stumping off the last ball against Jadhav, with the batsman grounding his foot when it mattered. Two runs and a crucial breakthrough off the over.

20:25 (IST)

Well, well. The crowd wanted Zampa back and he has left them stunned with Pandya's wicket. A good come back from the Aussie leggie. a timely wicket for the visitors.

20:23 (IST)

OUT! Zampa outwits Pandya, pitching this short of good length as the all-rounder perishes while trying to accelerate the Indian innings, holing out to Warner at long-off! The leg-spinner had been hammered by Pandya throughout the series, and this would be a nice way for him to pull things back. India 225/4 Pandya c Warner b Zampa 41(40)

20:23 (IST)

Both Pandya and Jadhav are closing in on their fifties and both have played sensible cricket so far. India have two genuine batsmen still left along with Axar Patel so India should think of hitting atleast one four every over along with singles and doubles to cope up with the required run-rate. It will be intriguing to see whether Australia will come up with any other strategy or not in the next two or three overs to break the ongoing threatening stand.

20:22 (IST)

India are down to the last 15 overs. They need to go at 8 runs an over from here. They will target Zampa who has 5 overs and possibly Stoinis. Hardik and Jadhav are well set and can accelerate.

20:20 (IST)

After 37 overs,India 225/3 ( Hardik Pandya 41 , Kedar Jadhav 41) Swing and miss for Pandya at the start of Richardson's seventh over. The all-rounder tucks one towards long-leg the next ball, collecting a single this time. The two batsmen rotate the strike between themselves with singles in the remainder of the over, with five coming off it.

20:16 (IST)

The fans are elated.....well not because someone has hit a six  but because Zampa is brought back. They desperately wanted him to come on to bowl.

20:16 (IST)

After 36 overs,India 220/3 ( Hardik Pandya 38 , Kedar Jadhav 39) Zampa returns to the attack in the 36th over, and collects dots off the first four deliveries of the over, tying Jadhav up. 20:11 (IST)

FOUR! Nice roll of wrists by Pandya, as he flicks a full delivery from Richardson towards the backward square-leg boundary. India 218/3

Jadhav whips the final ball of the over towards deep midwicket for a single, retaining strike for the following over. Nine off the over, with the umpire calling for drinks after the over.

20:06 (IST)

Hardik and Jadhav working out a useful partnership. India need 130 from 100 balls. Gettable considering that Aussies have only two top line bowlers

20:05 (IST)

SIX! Pitched up outside off by Cummins, and Jadhav comes down the ground and slogs it down the ground to collect his first six! India 212/3

20:04 (IST)

Pandya and Jadhav have ticked on at a nice rate so far. They have not let the momentum slip away.  Australia need to do something different to break this stand. The duo is one of the cleanest hitters of the ball and if they get going then Australia will be in real trouble.

20:02 (IST)

After 33 overs,India 204/3 ( Hardik Pandya 32 , Kedar Jadhav 29) Risky single collected by Pandya off the first ball of the 33rd over, with Jadhav in danger of getting run-out at the striker's end for a moment. One off the last ball of the over, with nine coming off it.

19:53 (IST)

FOUR! Jadhav tickles the penultimate delivery of the 31st over towards the third man boundary, with Finch failing to prevent the boundary despite a dive. India 190/3

19:48 (IST)

Hardik Pandya might be playing an innings of his life today as India's target is 335 but don't forget that this is an important innings for Kedar Jadhav too who has not scored that many runs in the recent times.

Pandya gets hit on the soft part of his thigh, with the ball angling into the batsman on that occasion. Good over for the Australians, with just two singles coming off it.

19:42 (IST)

Pandya's assault on Zampa continues. This is good fearless hitting from the Baroda All rounder. He's making sure that India don't get bogged down after two quick wickets. Meanwhile Zampa seems to have taken some meds from the physio at the fine leg fence. He was having a word with the physio too.

19:42 (IST)

India need to put pressure on the lesser bowlers like Zampa, Head. Hardik Pandya obviously laying into Zampa with two huge sixes. Good run rate. But pressure must be kept on the Australia's second string bowling

19:40 (IST)

Most sixes in ODIs in 2017:   28 - HARDIK PANDYA* 26 - Eoin Morgan 24 - Rohit Sharma 24 - Ben Stokes

Shami whacks the penultimate ball of the match towards the midwicket boundary for a boundary, and misses the last ball completely as India fall short of Australia's total by 21 runs!

With this, Australia register their first victory of the tour!

Preview: Skipper Virat Kohli will aim to surpass predecessor Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record winning run as captain when India take on Australia in the fourth One-Day International (ODI) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.

Kohli equalled former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record run of nine consecutive ODI victories after the series-clinching five-wicket win over Australia in the third ODI at Indore on Sunday.

India's Virat Kohli and Australia's Steve Smith. AP

The previous winning run under Dhoni stretched from February 2008 to January 2009. India's current victory run started on July 6 this year with an eight-wicket win over West Indies in the fifth and last match of that series at Sabina Park.

The Virat Kohli-led side has dominated the ongoing series with comprehensive victories in the initial three ODIs handing India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series against Australia.

The hosts will heavily rely on openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane to get them off to a flying start. Batsmen Kohli, Dhoni and Hardik Pandya who have looked destructive in the series will later be the key to adding vital runs to help India post a dominating total.

In the bowling department, pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah along with wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal who have put up a fine performance throughout the tournament will look to providing brakes on the opposition at regular intervals.

Kohli will have an extra spinning option in the form of Axar Patel who has been called up for the remaining ODIs to replace all-rouder Ravindra Jadeja.

Australia, led by Steven Smith, will look to re-working on the strategies to get the best out of his side in the remainder of the series.

Opener Aaron Finch, who scored a century in the previous match will be the key for the visitors to give them a good start along with hard hitting batsman David Warner and skipper Smith.

Australia will also hope that middle-order batsman Glen Maxwell returns to form in order to provide balance to their batting.

The bowling department will rely on pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins and Kane Richardson to rattle the India line-up.

Spinner Ashton Agar being ruled out for the rest of the series due to a fractured finger will be a big loss for the visitors.
