England pick uncapped teen Haseeb Hameed for Bangladesh Tests, Joe Root rested for ODIs

Nottingham: Teenage opener Haseeb Hameed has been included in England's Test squad for the tour of Bangladesh.

The 19-year-old Lancashire batsman was included after a successful season for the Red Rose county, and following current England opener Alex Hales to opt out of the tour on security grounds.

Yorkshire's Joe Root, for so long the mainstay of the England batting in all three formats, will be rested for the three ODIs, which begin on 7 October, but will join the squad for the Tests that follow.

Meanwhile, Surrey captain Gareth Batty, whose last Test match came in 2005, has been recalled at the age of 38, along with clubmate spinner Zafar Ansari. Left-armer Ansari is joined in the squad by another uncapped player in Northamptonshire batsman Ben Duckett.
