2353 IST

20th over: Mohit Sharma bowls the final over with 23 needed. Steyn manages one six as 11 comes off the over giving CSK a 12-run victory. The margin of victory suggests Sunrisers had a chance but it would have taken a stupendous effort from a hobbled Sammy to see them home.

Still questions for Dhoni about his bowling attack, even though he will be happy with the win.

2344 IST

18.4 overs: OUT! After Sammy straight bats Holder for six to get to his fifty, Holder produces the perfect yorker to rearrange the furniture.

Darren Sammy b Holder 50 (25b 2x4 5x6)

Sammy hobbles off the field. He fell down after hitting that last six and he may be in danger of missing the next game. Needed just 24 balls to get to his half-century.

Sunrisers now 180 for 7 after 19 overs.

18.2 overs: OUT! This Karan Sharma has to walk back to the dressing room. Goes for another slog and finds long-on, who hangs on to the ball this time.

KV Sharma c Vijay b Holder 11 (9b 2x4 0x6)

18th over: Everything happening in that over. Karan Sharma is caught off a deadball – Bravo failed to tell the umpire he was coming around the wicket - and then was dropped by Raina (yes, Raina) off the very next delivery. He tried to slog Bravo and completely mistimed it, with the ball looping slowly to midoff. Raina strolls in and then somehow lets it spill from his hands. Then Hussey dropped a skier off the same batsman. Meanwhile Sammy is limping because of an inside edge off a Holder yorker that deflected onto the top of his foot.

17th over
: Holder returns and Sammy keeps blasting away, picking up two fours, but Sunrisers need 47 from the final three overs. Unless Sammy turns into Dhoni, this game is done.

2319 IST

15.1 overs: OUT! Ashish Reddy tries to turn into Sammy by heaving away at Bravo. But he isn’t Sammy so he simply top edges this back over his head and Dhoni runs a fair way to take the chance in the vicinity of third man.

Ashish Reddy c †Dhoni b Bravo 3 (4b 0x4 0x6)

Sunrisers now 138 for 5 and fading fast.

15th over
: 87 needed from six overs. Ravindra Jadeja comes on and Sammy sends the ball sailing high and far into the night over long-on. Mistimes the next one – a full delivery - but it has enough to get over the rope down the ground. The last ball is a full toss and Sammy is able to muscle that one straight for six too. Sunrisers not giving up yet. 22 from the over.

2308 IST

13.1 overs: OUT! Perea doesn’t last long. Tries to flat bat Bravo over mid-off, doesn’t time it and doesn’t clear the fielder either.

Perera c Vijay b Bravo 12 (11b 0x4 1x6)

That should be that. Sunrisers are 107 for 4, now and don't have the firepower to score at 14 runs an over, which is about what they need.

13th over
: Ashwin gets a change of ends. Perera brings up the team’s 100 with a couple and then slog sweeps the offspinner for six. The second 50 took 44 balls, compared to 32 for the first. That’s not a trend Sunrisers want to continue.

12th over: Dwayne Bravo comes on Sammy and Perera struggle to get him away. Just four singles and a wide from the over. The required rate is now over 13.

2252 IST

OUT! Dhawan throws it away. Chases a very wide delivery outside off and gets a feather-thin under edge that Dhoni pouches and goes ballistic appealing. Had Dhawan left the ball alone, it would have been a wide. He smiles as he walks off, knowing he should not have played that shot.

Shikhar Dhawan c †Dhoni b Ashwin 48 (34b 7x4 1x6)

The wheels coming off SRH here. They are 92 for 3 after 11 overs.

2249 IST

After 10 overs, SRH are 90 for 2.

OUT! JP Duminy plays out two dot balls, then comes down the track to flick Raina but ends up yorking himself and loses middle stump. Big blow for the Sunrisers.

JP Duminy b Raina 0 (3b 0x4 0x6)

Thisara Perera is the new batsman. He has to blast away if SRH are to have any chance of winning this game.

OUT! Parthiv sets out for a sharp single from the non-striker's end but Dhawan does not respond after just dabbing the ball on the offside. The bowler, Raina, picks it up and throws down the stumps with Parthiv having given up on trying to get back.

Parthiv Patel run out 38 (28b 6x4 0x6)

Sunrisers are 88 for 1 after 9.2 overs.

2245 IST

After 9 overs, SRH are 87 for now loss, with Dhawan on 46 and Parthiv on 37

9th over: More drama for Holder. He has Parthiv caught at deep square leg off a bouncer but the umpires rule it a no-ball after reviewing it. It was well above head height for Parthiv, who, of course, is tiny. A life and an extra run. Parthiv makes Holder pay by moving across his stumps and scooping him over short fine leg for four. Five runs had come from the first five balls. In the end, 12 came from the over.

8th over: Dropped! Holder drops Dhawan at wide mid-on. Jumps to take the catch when he should have just stood still. The ball hits the bottom of his palms and the chance is gone. Michael Hussey looks on in disbelief. Dhoni isn’t happy. Patel responds by making room and hitting Albie back over his head for four. Swings Albie to the square leg for a second boundary. 11 from the over.

7th over
: Dhawan shows off his strong offside play with a punched cover drive off Jason Holder that freezes the fielders. But he gives away just six runs. With the required rate starting at over 10 an over, every over like that increases the pressure exponentionally.

2227 IST

After 6 overs, SRH are 58 for no loss, with Dhawan on 36 and Parthiv on 20

6th over: Dhawan chips down the track and slaps Ashwin for a flat, straight six.

5th over: Dhawan shows off his time with a delicate cut that raced past point and beat the fielder running around from third man on the boundary. He then slashes Mohit over backward point and sends Bravo on a long chase to the midwicket boundary and picks up a couple more. Good over for SRH – 12 from it.

4th over: Ashwin comes during the PowerPlay. Dhawan sweeps him from outside off to the square boundary. Patel cashes in to with a nicely timed cut through the covers. 10 11 from the over.

2214 IST

After 3 overs, Sunrisers are 26 for no loss

3rd over: Dhawan improvises by moving far outside offstump and helping Mohit past fine leg for four. Crashes Mohit powerfully past mid-off to to end the over.

2nd over
: Parthiv kept the strike. Pulls Albie Morkel for four. Dhawan gets the strike over 9 deliveries. Picks up a couple to get off the mark. Eight runs come from the over.

1st over: Parthiv shows no ill effects of being struck in the last game by pulling Mohit Sharma for four second ball. Parthiv faces all six deliveries and scores eight runs.

2144 IST

20th over: Dhoni gets to his fifty with a well run two. It has taken just 16 balls, breaking the record for the fastest fifty in CLT20 history (Kieron Pollard, from 18 balls). Celebrates by slicing Sammy over cover for six. The bowler puts his hands on his head and gives Dhoni a disbelieving smile. Dhoni simply repeats the dose the next ball. Full and wide outside off and Dhoni doesn’t need a second invitation.

It was a tame 19 from the final over. CSK end up with 202 for 4, thanks to Dhoni’s 63 from 19 balls. Perera's three overs cost 60 runs. Dhoni struck 8 sixes in all. 76 came from the last 5 overs, and 61 from the last 3.

2136 IST

OUT! No century for Raina. He smacks Steyn to long-on and it looks like it might carry over the fielder but Perera leaps and takes an excellent one-handed catch.

Suresh Raina c Perera b Steyn 84 (57b 9x4 1x6)

Another excellent knock from Raina, who set the platform for his team that has allowed Dhoni to go ballistic.

Dhoni manages to steer Steyn for four off the last ball of the over. CSK are 183 for 4 after 19 overs.

2134 IST

After 18 overs, CSK are 175 for 3.

18th over: Dhoni sends Perera deep into the stands behind long-on. That one flew 92 metres. That is, unsurprisingly, followed by a wide as Perera tries to figure out how to bowl to Dhoni in the death overs. A low full toss is then turned over square leg for another six. He makes it three sixes from four balls when he carves a good length delivery over point.

That becomes four out of five. Perera gives him width to free his arms and Dhoni sends it flying back over the bowler – 101 metres to be exact. A short one outside off is cut over the third man boundary. 34 runs from the over.

Dhoni has made 43 from 13 balls.

2126 IST

After 17 overs, CSK are 141 for 3 with Dhoni on 11 and Raina on 84.

17th over: Steyn comes back as scheduled. Has to make sure he doesn’t lose his line as fine leg and square leg are up in the circle. Starts with a wide from the rest of the over is on point. Just five from it.

16th over: Raina and Dhoni begin to go after the bowling. Raina pierces the field brilliantly to pick four through midwicket. 10 off the over.

15th over: The crowd don’t mind the wicket. They chant Dhoni, Dhoni as the captain walks out to the middle. Dhoni smashes Duminy for a straight six second ball. Pitched up and Dhoni just stepped out and whacked it. 11 from the over.

2110 IST

OUT! Badrinath holes out to long-on off Duminy. Gone for 13. CSK are 115/3 after 14.1 overs.

14th over: Raina takes on Sammy, slashing a wide one over point and then muscling a fuller delivery over long-on for six. Badrinath tries to emulate his partner but only manges a single. 14 from the over.

2103 IST

After 13 overs, CSK are 101 for 2, with Raina on 58 and Badrinath on 12

13th over: Raina brings up his 50, from 38 balls, by swinging Perera backward of square for four. Perera answers with a waist-high full toss that Raina swung in the same direction as the previous boundary, but this was in the air and was dropped at deep square leg. Umpire calls it a no-ball though, sparing the fielders blushes. The next ball is in the blockhole but just a touch to straight and Raina turns it behind square for four to bring up CSK’s 100.

12th over: Darren Sammy come on with his military medium. Serves up a steady diet of singles.

11th over: Thisara Perera provides some levity with a ball so wide it evades the keeper by a few feet and runs away to third man. As a result, CKS pick up 10 runs from the over.

2034 IST

After 10 overs, CSK are 69 for 2, with Raina on 38 and Badrinath on 6.

Mishra appears to be targetting Raina's leg-stump. Bowling flatter and quicker than normal too. Wants to keep Raina from freeing his arms. The risk is evident when he strays marginally onto offstump and Raina flicks him to the deep midwicket boundary.

2038 IST

After 8 overs, CSK are 52 for 2, with Raina on 25 and Badrinath on 4.

Amit Mishra replaced Ishant. Raina brought up CSK’s 50 with a single to long-on. Badri pulls the legspinner to square leg and the fielder does well to stop the boundary.

2031 IST

OUT! Duminy gets one to turn enough to take Hussey's outside edge. CSK now 45 for 2 after 6.2 overs.

Michael Hussey c †Patel b Duminy 23 (21b 2x4 1x6)

2028 IST

After 6 overs, CSK are 44/1

A big over for Chennai. Hussey swivels and nonchalantly pulls a short ball from Ishant into the crowd at backward square leg. That ball sat up and begged to be hit. The rest of the over was sedate in comparison, but an edge to the third man for four means 15 come from it.

2023 IST

JP Duminy is the first spinner to be used. Keeps things tidy – four singles from the over.

2020 IST

After 4 overs, CSK are 25 for 1.

A life for Hussey. Karan Sharma puts down a sharp chance at point. Had to move quickly to his right and the ball struck his fingertips. Should have taken it though. Raina is unbowed, and heaves Ishant over point to the fence.

2015 IST

Much better from Steyn to the left-handers in his second over. On or outside offstump at a decent pace. Beats Hussey with one that leaves the batsman as he tentatively pokes at it. Just two from the over.

2010 IST

After 2 overs, CSK are 12 for 1.

Raina capped the first over by clipping Steyn to the vacant square leg boundary, then pushing him straight down the ground for four more. Somewhat suprisingly, Ishant found his line and length immediately, conceding just four runs.

2001 IST

Dale Steyn starts proceedings with the ball. Murali Vijay is on strike.

OUT! Murali Vijay edges the second ball of the innings to second slip. Gone for a duck. CSK are 0/1.

Murali Vijay c Dhawan b Steyn 0 (2b 0x4 0x6)

The ball seamed a way a touch and Vijay followed it. Not much footwork to speak of. Suresh Raina is the new batsman.

1950 IST

Here are the playing XIs:

CSK: M Hussey, M Vijay, S Raina, S Badrinath, DJ Bravo, MS Dhoni, R Jadeja, A Morkel, J Holder, R Ashwin, M Sharma.

Sunrisers: S Dhawan*, PA Patel†, JP Duminy, NLTC Perera, DJG Sammy, GH Vihari, A Ashish Reddy, KV Sharma, A Mishra, DW Steyn, I Sharma.

Sunrisers probably edge the bowling but CSK are definitely a better batting side. The dew will play a factor too. Sanjay Manjrekar reckons it might neutralise CSK's batting.

1930 IST

Shikhar Dhawan has won the toss and Sunrisers will bowl first because of the dew. Dhoni says he would have done the same. Dhoni: There is no extra pressure that comes from playing in Ranchi.

He also says his haircut was just for a change.

Both teams are unchanged.

1920 IST

Michael Hussey thinks the team that assess the conditions and adapts the best will win. He also said MS Dhoni's haircut has given the team a few laughs. The good thing for Dhoni is that he doesn't have to see the haircut, but the rest of the players do, Hussey said.

Brimming with confidence after a perfect start to their campaign, star-studded Chennai Super
Kings will start as favourites against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a Group B match of the Champions League Twenty20.

Riding on its batting firepower, CSK successfully chased down a stiff target of 185 runs set by Titans with six wickets in hand to start their CLT20 campaign on a rousing note at JSCA International Stadium Complex.

MS Dhoni and CSK are looking for their second victory in the CLT20. BCCI

The Chennai outfit will be hoping to carry on the winning momentum. But it won't be a cakewalk for local boy Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men as in Sunrisers they face a side who too will be eager to carry on their good work.

Two-time IPL champions, CSK boast of a star-studded line up with the likes of India skipper Dhoni, Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Michael Hussey and Dwayne Bravo around whom the CSK batting will revolve.

Hussey, Raina and Bravo set up CSK's run chase the other day with some scintillating strokeplay and the trio would be eyeing a repeat performance against the Sunrisers. Having failed in the previous match, Dhoni is due for a big knock in front of his home crowd.

Another distinct feature about this Chennai unit is the presence of quality all-rounders in their ranks. Players like Ravindra Jadeja, Albie Morkel, Bravo and Raina are equally capable with both bat and ball and possess ability to change the complexion of the game at any point.

They also give their skipper a variety of options while bowling apart from saving runs through their fielding. But CSK's bowling attack would be a cause of concern for Dhoni considering the fact that all his bowlers bled runs against Titans.
