I forced Sachin to quit ODIs, jokes Saeed Ajmal

Saeed Ajmal's pride at taking Sachin Tendulkar's wicket during the World Cup in 2011 and at the Asian cup in 2012 knows no bounds as the Pakistan spinner revealed that 'it was a great moment' for him to dismiss a man many consider to be the best batsman ever.

Ajmal also joked that it forced the Little Master to quit ODI cricket. Tendulkar, who scored 52 off 48 balls in the match at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, quit ODIs after the innings.

"He was having trouble in picking the 'doosra' in his last ODI in the Asia Cup. Misbah said to me we could get him out caught at slips. Younis Khan moved to slips and it worked out exactly as planned. I got the wicket of the world-class batsman and it came off such a great delivery that he was compelled to quit ODI cricket after it," Ajmal was quoted as saying in a Wisden India interview.

Ajmal may have taken Tendulkar's wicket in both the matches, but India ended up winning them. However, it's not the first time he's taken a dig at the Indian.

After the Asia cup last year, Ajmal had doubted Tendulkar's ability to play the doosra and said, "If Sachin can't read doosra, then he is nearing his end."

The 35-year-old also spoke in the interview of inventing a new delivery called the 'seedha', which he says is somewhat like Shane Warne's flipper: "With my action, it goes straight, so it appears as a variation to me. The conventional delivery is offbreak; the other one is the doosra. So the one that goes seedha is also a variety, isn’t it?" he said.
