  • Shai Hope played really well for his unbeaten 90 and got decent support from Kieran Powell, Roston Chase as they notched up a couple of 50-run stands but once Chase departed post Tea, Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza ran through the rest bundling them out for a moderate total. Yes, the ball is spinning a lot on Day 1 itself but that can't be an excuse for some poor batting. The hosts were disciplined right throughout the day and now will hope to bat out the short time today and then bat big. Will the Windies bowlers step up in time? Let's see. Join us for their effort in a while.
  • Well done, Windies! The last team to get bundled out for under 250 against Zimbabwe was Pakistan in Harare in 2013 and they have done it again, to the Windies. What an effort, remember they lost the toss. Kyle Jarvis provided them with the early breakthrough but Shai Hope played a gritty knock to hold an end up.
  • 82.5 OUT! Gabriel goes first ball! Cremer gets his fourth. He serves it in line of the stumps, Gabriel lunges forward to bunt it down. But all he manages to do is get an inside edge that is safely taken by Ervine at short leg. Another catch for him and that gets Zimbabwe jumping with joy. Excellent spin bowling by them to BOWL OUT WEST INDIES FOR 219!
  • Shannon Gabriel is the last man in for Windies. Can he hang in with Shai Hope till the latter's century?
  • 82.4 OUT! Cremer adds another to his kitty. Roach wastes the review and exhausts all that they have. Cremer bowls it flatter in line of the stumps, Kemar strides forward to defend but gets hit on the front pad. The home side appeals and after a long look, the umpire obliges. The hosts celebrate but, hold on! The batsman opts for the review. The ball hits the pad first and then the bat, which was behind the pad. Hawk Eye shows three reds and that's it for the tailender with the bat. Zimbabwe one wicket away from bowling out the opposition.
  • What's happening here! Zimbabwe appeal for LBW against Roach and after a long look, Dharmasena raises the dreaded finger. Bishoo decides to take it upstairs.
  • 82.3 Served around off, Roach gets a leading edge towards covers. It was just away from the fielder there.
  • 82.2 Cremer almost gets him there! He floats it around off, Roach looks to drive but gets an inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls close past the off stump there. Close shave!
  • 82.1 Hope drives it through covers and crosses to the other end. Strange move this, considering there's a tailender at the other end.
  • Kemar Roach walks in to bat at no.10.
  • 81.6 OUT! Williams strikes to snaffle up his third. This is a really tame dismissal. Floated around off and middle, Bishoo looks to turn it past square leg. Ends up getting it off the inner half to short leg, where Ervine makes no mistake. The tourists are falling like a pack of cards here as they aren't having any answers to the spinners from Zimbabwe. 218/8
  • 81.5 Lands it around off, Bishoo stays in the crease to block it.
  • 81.4 Floated outside off, Shai gets to the pitch of the ball to drive it to long off.
  • 81.3 Shai Hope goes back and keeps it out off the back foot.
  • 81.2 Loopy ball in line of the stumps, Hope lunges forward and defends it.
  • 81.1 Flatter around off, cut towards point.
  • 80.6 Around middle and leg, Bishoo shapes to clip but is hit on his pads. 217/7
  • 80.5 Bishoo gets right forward and defends it watchfully.
  • 80.4 Fuller around off, turned towards mid on by the batsman.
  • 80.3 Hope punches one through covers for a single.
  • 80.2 FOUR! Bad ball, mate! Short and going down leg, Hope pulls it hard through square leg for a boundary. He is not letting the bad balls go.
  • 80.1 Drives it through the covers from his crease.
  • Devendra Bishoo walks in at the fall of the 7th wicket.
  • 79.6 OUT! Holder departs and takes a review with him. Williams tosses this in line of the stumps, Holder looks to play against the turn but misses. The ball strikes him on the back pad and goes towards gully. The Zimbabweans appeal and the umpire obliges. Holder isn't convinced and has a chat with his partner before opting for the review. Replays roll in. Snicko shows a spike as the ball passes the bat. But the umpire is sure that there is no edge. Hawk Eye shows three reds and Holder's stay ends. Zimbabwe are happy as they see the back of the visiting skipper. 212/7
  • Zimbabwe put in a shout shout and Holder is ruled out LBW onfield. He asks his partner and opts for the review.
  • 79.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 79.4 Punches it through covers for a single.
  • 79.3 This delivery is punched off the back foot towards the bowler.
  • 79.2 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 79.1 Not Out! Just short! Williams loops it around off, Hope lunges forward to defend. Gets a thick outside edge towards slip. Masakadza gets low to his left and catches it. He isn't sure whether it is clean. Indicates the same to the umpire who then goes upstairs. The soft signal is not out. Replays confirm that the ball landed just short of Hamilton. Hope stays on.
  • There is an appeal for a catch at slip against Hope. Masakadza has indicated to the umpire that he is not sure whether it's a clean catch. The umpire goes upstairs. The soft signal is not out.
  • 78.6 FOUR! Second boundary off the over. Served around off, Holder drives it through cover-point to help himself to another one. 211/6
  • 78.5 Loopy delivery around off, Holder hits it straight back to the bowler. It bounced near the bat.
  • 78.4 FOUR! Lovely shot by Holder. Cremer floats it around off, Holder goes inside out and collects a boundary through covers. He gets off the mark.
  • 78.3 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 78.2 Huge shout, denied! Cremer serves a straighter one around middle, Holder plays for the turns that is not there. Gets hit below the knee-roll. The hosts appeal but the umpire stays put. They can't review it as they have none left. Hawk Eye shows that Dharmasena has got it spot on, as height is a factor there. The ball would have gone over the stumps.
  • 78.1 Beaten again! Holder strides forward to play for the straighter one but the ball spins away to beat the edge. To get beaten on the outside is still okay as the batsman covers his stump in that case.
  • 77.6 Shai goes back to keep this ball out. 203/6
  • 77.5 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 77.4 So close! Hope lets this straighter ball outside off go. Williams and the keeper cannot believe that the ball missed the off stump. Perhaps Shai thought it would spin away.
  • 77.3 Hope goes back and blocks this delivery around off.
  • 77.2 Floated around off, driven towards covers.
  • 77.1 Loopy ball around off, Hope gets a soft outer edge that goes on the bounce to slip.
  • 76.6 This ball is pushed back towards the bowler. 203/6
  • 76.5 Holder gets beaten this time! He lunges forward to a leg spinner but the ball turns away sharply.
  • 76.4 Cremer lands it around off, the ball spins away sharply. Holder looks to play at it initially before deciding against it.
  • 76.3 Hope drives it through covers and crosses over to the other end.
  • 76.2 This ball is pushed back towards the bowler.
  • 76.1 Floated in line of the stumps, Hope defends off the front foot.
  • 75.6 Holder gets his big stride forward and blocks it solidly. 202/6
  • 75.5 Drives this ball to the mid on fielder.
  • Skipper Jason Holder strides out to the centre. He is an able batsman and his team would love him to lead from the front with some runs with the bat.
  • 75.4 OUT! Cremer seems to be the man with the midas touch. Rings in the bowling change and it reaps dividend immediately! Williams tosses it up around off, Dowrich fails to counter the spin. Looks to play with his bat and pad close together without trying to get to the pitch of the ball. The ball takes the outside edge, courtesy the extra bounce, and flies to the right of Masakadza at slip, who takes a good catch diving to his right. Yet another failure for Dowrich. Windies slide further, Zimbabwe on the rise.
  • 75.3 This ball is flicked towards mid-wicket.
  • 75.2 Loopy ball around middle, Dowrich lunges forward to defend that.
  • 75.1 Fires in a yorker around off, Shane hangs back to dig it out.
  • Sean Williams to roll his arm over now. This is a ploy used keeping in mind the two right-handed batsmen at the crease.
  • 74.6 Looped up in line of the stumps, blocked off the front foot onto the ground. 202/5
  • 74.5 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 74.4 Shai Hope lunges forward to defend it off the front foot.
  • 74.3 There's that edge again! Cremer gives it some more air outside off, Hope is enticed into the drive. He does so but gets a thick edge past slip. The fielder from short third man hares after it and keeps them down to two.
  • 74.2 Flatter around off, Hope goes back to punch it towards cover-point.
  • 74.1 Floated around off, driven towards covers.
  • 73.6 This delivery on the pads is flicked past short leg for a run. 200/5
  • 73.5 Shai gets behind the line of the ball to defend that.
  • 73.4 Fired in on the pads, Shai goes back and works it towards leg slip.
  • 73.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 73.2 Flatter delivery on the pads, blocked from the crease.
  • 73.1 SIX! Wow! How refreshing was the Drinks break for Hope! He begins this period of play with a biggie over mid-wicket. Raza serves it fuller around leg, Shai clears his front leg and thumps it into the stands. This is just the second six of his Test career.
  • Drinks have been taken. This game is on the knife's edge at the moment with Windies having lost half their side here. This would be an enough boost for the hosts who would look to make further inroads.
  • 72.6 This ball is defended off the back foot. 193/5
  • 72.5 Dowrich goes on the back foot and punches it towards the bowler.
  • 72.4 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 72.3 This ball is pushed towards point.
  • 72.2 FOUR! To rub salt on the wounds, Dowrich helps himself to a boundary off the very next ball. Cremer bowls a half-tracker around middle, Shane goes back and pulls it through mid-wicket. The ball races away to the fence.
  • 72.1 Not Out! Zimbabwe lose both their reviews now. Their excitement has got the better of them here. Cremer fires it flatter around middle and leg, Dowrich lunges forward to play for the non-existent turn. Gets hit on the front pad. The Zimbabweans appeal to no avail. After some consulting, they opt to take the review. There was no bat involved. Hawk Eye shows the ball to be missing the leg stump by a whisker. The on-field call stays. Interesting to note that Dharmasena has got his decisions right today while Reiffel's three decisions were overturned. Dowrich stays to bat on.
  • Cremer is in the thick of things yet again! He appeals for LBW against Dowrich. The umpire disagrees but the hosts opt for a review. Should be close.
  • 71.6 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. 189/5
  • 71.5 Fuller ball outside off, Shane drives it beautifully through covers. Before the fielder retrieves the ball, the batters run three.
  • 71.4 This ball is bunted off the front foot onto the ground.
  • 71.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 71.2 FOUR! Freebies for Dowrich. Raza fires it short around middle and leg, the keeper-batsman has ample time to go back and pull it through mid-wicket for a boundary. He gets going with this.
  • 71.1 Hope collects a single through fine leg.
  • 70.6 Another jaffa! Cremer floats it gently around off, Dowrich hangs back to defend but the ball spins away yet again. The keeper collects it wonderfully. Shows how keenly he's watching the ball. 181/5
  • 70.5 Flatter outside off, Shai stays deep in the crease and slaps it through cover-point for a single.
  • 70.4 Flatter in line of the stumps, turned to the fielder at mid on.
  • 70.3 Hope lunges forward to kill the spin by smothering it onto the ground.
  • 70.2 Looped outside off, Shai shoulders arms to that.

  • 69.6 Floated outside off, driven towards covers. 180/5
  • 69.5 Dowrich strides forward and defends it off the front foot.
  • 69.4 Flatter around leg, Raza flicks it towards deep square leg for one run.
  • 69.3 Hope goes back to keep this out.
  • 69.2 This ball is flicked towards mid-wicket.
  • 69.1 The batsman works it down the leg side.
  • Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich walks in next. The opportunity is ripe for him to get among some runs here.
  • 68.6 OUT! Excellent work from the keeper! Quick strike for the home side. Cremer tosses this up around middle and leg, Blackwood lunges forward to defend. But the ball yet again spins sharply past the batsman. He is overbalanced a bit and Chakabva whips off the bails in a flash. He seems very confident and begins to celebrate. The umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in. Jermaine's back foot is on the line when the bails are dislodged. The TV umpire has numerous looks at it before giving the judgement in favour of the hosts. Zimbabwe are chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. 2 wickets within 5 runs after Tea here! 179/5
  • Zimbabweans look very happy. They seem to have got Blackwood stumped. The umpire refers it upstairs. Should be close as the batsman doesn't seem too confident.
  • 68.5 This ball is defended from within the crease.
  • 68.4 Served around off, driven towards covers.
  • 68.3 Beautifully bowled! Cremer tosses it up around off, Blackwood lunges forward to block. The ball spins away sharply to beat the outer edge of the bat.

  • 68.1 Floated around middle, Blackwood strides forward to block.
  • Bowling change! Greame Cremer brings himself back on.
  • 67.6 Wide down the leg side, No trouble at all for the batsman. 179/4
  • 67.5 Raza comes over the wicket and fires it short down the leg side. Blackwood pulls it to deep backward square leg for a run.
  • 67.4 Flatter on the pads, worked past short leg for a run.
  • 67.3 This ball is flicked towards mid-wicket.
  • 67.2 Similar delivery, this time Hope goes back to work it past short leg for a brace.
  • 67.1 Just short! Raza comes from round the wicket and serves a loopy ball around leg. Hope goes back and looks to tuck it away but gets an inside edge onto his pads which lands just short of the diving short leg fielder.
  • 66.6 Another length delivery outside off, Blackwood shows no intentions of putting bat to that. 175/4
  • 66.5 Jarvis bowls a slower length ball outside off, Blackwood shoulders arms to that. It went on the bounce to Chakabva.
  • 66.4 Jermaine gets right behind the line of the ball and blocks it from the crease.
  • 66.3 How beautifully was it driven. Fuller ball around off, finds the mid off fielder. Blackwood is new to the crease but that shot seemed as if he's out there since a long time.

  • 65.4 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 65.3 Served around middle and leg, Blackwood misses the flick and gets struck on the thigh pad.
  • Jermaine Blackwood walks out to bat. Will he play his shots or give himself time to get in?
  • 65.2 OUT! This time there's no need to appeal as Roston chase starts walking. Raza floats it around middle, Chase looks to defend again. This times he gets an inside edge onto his pads, which lobs up to Ervine at short leg who makes no mistake. The Zimbabweans don't need the umpire's confirmation as there was a big deflection. The vital stand is broken and the hosts are ecstatic.
  • 65.1 Flatter around middle, turning in. Chase looks to block it but misses and gets hit on the pads. The players appeal but is turned down by the umpire. Might be going down leg.
  • 64.6 This delivery around off is pushed towards mid on. 174/3
  • 64.5 Jarvis strays on the pads, Chase clips it towards fine leg for one run.
  • The on-air commentators have been talking about Chase's scoring area. 27 of his 30 runs today have come on the leg side. But the counter point for that is that the bowlers haven't bowled him enough outside off. The line of attack has to change.
  • 64.4 This ball is defended from the crease.
  • 64.3 Length ball around off and middle, defended towards mid-wicket from the crease.
  • 64.2 This is landed around middle and leg, Chase pushes it towards mid on.

  • 60.6 This length delivery is defended from within the crease. 164/3
  • 60.5 Bouncer banged in line of the stumps, Hope ducks under it.
  • A deepish gully is in place. Alan Wilkins on-air says that the fielder is a tad too deep for his liking as the ball is more likely to either fly over him or not carry to him. He can rather be used on the leg side, to not let the batsmen take easy singles.
  • 60.4 Now Mpofu bowls it in line of the stumps, Hope defends it towards mid on.
  • 60.3 This is bowled full around off, Hope drives it to mid off.
  • 60.2 Speared fuller in line of the stumps, Chase flicks it nicely through mid-wicket. The fielder from mid on hares after that and saves a run for his side.
  • 60.1 Length delivery outside off, Chase lets that go to the keeper.
  • 59.6 This ball is turned through mid-wicket to retain strike. Brings up the 50-run stand between these two. Have looked good so far. 161/3
  • 59.5 Bowled around off, Chase lunges forward to block.
  • 59.4 Flatter around off and middle, turned through square leg for one run.

  • 58.3 Bouncer but outside off, Chase sways away from the line to let the keeper do the rest.
  • 58.2 There is a short leg in place and accordingly, Mpofu bowls it on a back of a length around middle and leg. Chase does well to play it past the fielder there and what's more, he collects a brace.
  • 58.1 Runs in and spears it on a length around off and middle, Hope stands tall and clips it through backward square leg for a run.
  • Welcome back for the final session! The over-rate has been excellent, meaning only 32 overs left in the day. The players and the umpires walk out one last time with the batsmen warming up along the boundary. Will they be able to prolong their stand and inflict misery on the hosts? Or do we have something in store for the home side? Here comes Mpofu to Shai Hope...
  • ... Day 1, Session 3 ...
  • Attritional period of Test cricket, 89/1 in the session! The visitors began in fine fashion losing no wickets in the first hour. Kieran Powell departed against the run of play but the pair of Shai Hope and Roston Chase has done well since then to keep the hosts' bowlers at bay. Graeme Cremer will be happy that his bowlers have been disciplined but they will need to keep taking wickets to stay in the game on this deck which is already starting to assist the spinners. Will West Indies up the rate in the last session or will the home side keep them in check? Join us in a while for the final session to find out.
  • 57.6 Shorter outside off, turned towards mid-wicket by Chase. That's Tea, Day 1! 154/3

  • 57.3 Lands it outside off, Hope works it towards mid-wicket.

  • 57.1 NOT OUT! The bowling change almost worked for the home side. Raza bowls it outside off, Hope comes forward to defend but is beaten all ends up as the ball turns in a bit and deflects off the pads. Masakadza takes the catch at first slip and appeals. The umpire rules it out caught. Shai Hope is not sure of the mode of dismissal, he has a word about the review with his partner. After being told that he is given out caught, he goes for the review. The UltraEdge does not detect any edge, the Ball Tracker shows that the impact was outside the line and hence Hope cannot be given out lbw as well. Good review, Shai.

  • ... Day 1, Session 2 ...
  • Even session of Test cricket! Zimbabwe would be fairly happy with what they have achieved up to this point. Their seamers were right on the money upfront. Jarvis, their experienced campaigner gave them an early breakthrough. He bowled immaculate lines and length. The debutant, Mire, also looked disciplined and earned a victim early in his Test career. The visiting batsmen need to apply themselves well as there aren't great demons on the pitch. Powell is looking confident and he would look to make use of the start that he has got. He will want to stitch a stand with the in-form Hope. Let's see how they fare. Do join us for an interesting second session in a while.

  • The wicket of Brathwaite that Jarvis got was a reward of persistence. In the deliveries leading upto that dismissal, the bowler was bowling it wider of the stumps. As he got closer, Kraigg had to play at those. And cleverly, Jarvis slipped one just away from the sticks yet again, which the opener ended up poking at and that proved fatal.

  • Shai Hope replaces his brother Kyle at the crease. He looked very good and was among the runs on the England tour. Will he be able to carry that form here?
  • 15.3 OUT! What a review! Taylor is the man who convinced his skipper to opt for the review. It is a peach of a delivery on a length outside off. Hope hangs his bat at it and the ball goes to the keeper. The players put in a muted appeal but the umpire stays put. The bowler doesn't seem too keen but the players decide to take it upstairs, which is a tad surprising as there didn't seem to be anything to the naked eye. And here's where the technology comes to the rescue of the home side. Snicko shows a spike that brings joy to the Zimbabweans. Solomon Mire gets his first Test wicket as he ends Hope's misery at the crease. The hosts are on a roll here.

  • 13.1 FOUR! What are the slip and the keeper doing? That's a certain opportunity that has gone abegging. Mire runs in and bowls it on a length around off. Kyle Hope pushes at it without much feet movement. He gets a thick outside edge that flies between the two and races away to the fence. On second look, it seems that it was more Chakabva's catch.
  • Drinks have been taken. This has been a good hour of Test cricket. The hosts have maintained the pressure on the tourists by picking up a wicket. What's more, the scoring rate shows that there haven't been many opportunities for West Indies to score. The visitors would look to consolidate further without losing a wicket while Zimbabwe would strive for the exact opposite.

  • 9.1 Mpofu continues round the wicket to the left hander and serves it around off, Powell shows the full face of the bat to defend that.
  • 8.6 FOUR! That should set the dangling nerves for Hope straight. He's off the mark with a good looking shot. On a length around off and middle, the batsman times his push down the ground past the diving mid on. Gets a boundary as the ball races away to the fence. 18/1
  • 8.5 Jarvis spears it outside off, Hope doesn't bother to put bat to ball there.
  • 8.4 Hope is welcomed with a bouncer. He ducks and lets that go to the keeper.
  • Kyle Hope walks in next for West Indies. Remember, he's not had a good start in Test cricket and yet he has the team management's backing. Will he come good today? A wicket in time for the hosts, they have often struggled to take wickets with the new ball.
  • 8.3 OUT! Jarvis' consistent lines have earned him a wicket. Beautiful spell of seam bowling this. He lands it on a length around off, Brathwaite looks to push at it away from the body. The ball nips away a touch to catch the outside edge of the bat and Chakabva behind the wicket gleefully accepts the offering. End of Brathwaite's stay at the crease, which was more about blocking rather than looking to score. Zimbabwe strike early.
  • 8.2 Back of a length ball around leg, Brathwaite looks to flick that but misses.

  • 6.5 FOUR! First boundary since ages! Glorious drive that. Pristine timing there. Jarvis bowls it a touch fuller around off, Powell times the straight drive perfectly as the ball races away to the fence.
  • Interesting from Ian Bishop on-air. He observes that Jarvis is holding the seam upright which is helping him swing the ball a touch more than Mpofu who is often holding it cross seam. County cricket experience helping him? Three slips in place for him.
  • 6.4 Kyle lands it outside off, Powell just lets it be.
  • 6.3 Fuller around leg, Powell looks to flick but gets hit on the pads.
  • 6.2 Another back of a length ball just outside off, Powell yet again shoulders arms to that. This passes closer to the off stump.
  • 6.1 Good judgement shown by Powell there. Back of a length delivery around off, it moved in a touch after pitching. The southpaw shouldered arms to that. The ball passed just over the stumps. He left it based on the length mainly.

  • 1.4 Not Out! Zimbabweans in their excitement, lose a review early in the game. Mpofu bowls it full around off, Powell brings his front foot forward to let that go. But the ball comes in just a touch to rap his front pad and then goes to the keeper. The players appeal but the umpire stays put. Sensing a wicket there, they opt for the review. Hawk Eye shows that the ball missed the stumps by a decent margin. The hosts would have been excited as the ball tailed in a bit. But this review could well have been avoided by them.
  • A huge appeal by Zimbabweans early in the game against Powell. The umpire stays unmoved. The hosts seem excited and they opt to go for the review. The impact could be an issue here.
  • 1.3 Landed outside off again, Kieran points his bat skywards and lets that go.
  • 1.2 Powell seems to be watchful to start with. He covers his stumps and watches the ball go to the keeper as he lets that go.
  • Ian Bishop on air opines that it is important for Zimbabwe to see whether any swing is available upfront by bowling full. If there's none, they'd do well to drag their lengths back.

  • Chris Mpofu to bowl from the other end.

  • 0.2 Lands it fuller outside off, Powell shoulders arms to let it go.
  • 0.1 Jarvis steams in and lands it in line of the stumps. Brathwaite gets going straightaway after playing it through where short leg would have been. Why wouldn't you have a close-in fielder there in the first over?
  • It's time for play to get underway. Everybody observes a moment of silence for the passing of Mr. Alwyn Pichanik, the former Zimbabwe Cricket President. Solomon Mire is handed his first Test cap by Hamilton Mazakadza. The players and the umpires take their respective spots on the ground. Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell stride out to open the batting for the tourists. For the hosts, Kyle Jarvis, the man who is returning back to international cricket for Zimbabwe, will run in with the new ball. Two slips in place.
  • Time for the national anthems. The West Indies team anthem is played first, followed by Zimbabwe's.
  • Graeme Cremer reckons that it might swing around but they would have batted first anyway. Expects it to take turn later in the game. Calls it an important series as they could not take the team over the line in Sri Lanka but want to do well at home against West Indies. Feels that runs on the board are important to then take 20 wickets. Hopes that spinners step up for them. Is happy about the return of Taylor and Jarvis as they bring a lot of experience to the side.
  • Jason Holder says that the wicket seems a bit dry and hence they would like to make first use of it and bat. Reckons that it is important to keep progressing with their game and also pull themselves up. States that they need to be consistent and they'll be up there. Informs that they are going in with 3 fast bowlers and a spinner along with 6 batters. Regarding Hetmyer, he opines that although he has been doing well, they felt that they should give the selected guys another go.
  • West Indies win the toss and opt to bat. No surprises there.
  • Ian Bishop doing the pitch report reckons that it is a fairly even surface, no live grass to speak about. He expects it to be a good one for batting, with more assistance for spinners later. Team winning the toss will want to bat first but the ball might swing thanks to the overcast conditions.
  • Hello folks! After the short delay due to the wet outfield, welcome to our coverage of the 1st Test between Zimbabwe and West Indies in Bulawayo. The hosts would be on a high as their resurgence in the longest form of the game has got a shot in the arm with the addition of Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis. They have plenty of options going into the first game in the series. West Indies, on the other hand, come here to play a Test for the first time since 2003. They would head into this game believing that if they could play to their potential, the hosts could be toppled. This surely would be a closely contested battle with both sides starting on an even keel. Stay tuned for all the action.
  • It's an opportunity lost for Zimbabwe! They had the opposition on the mat but failed to make the most of it. Their batting faltered when it shouldn't have, thereby undoing all the good work that their bowlers did. Not that the track has too many demons in it but the batsmen lacked application and simply threw away their wickets. Mire, Masakadza, Ervine all got starts but didn't convert them into a mountain of runs that they should have. All is not lost though, if they keep the visitors in check, they could have a shot at history. Will they do it though? Join us in a while to see what happens.
  • What terrific bowling effort! West Indies are ahead in the game courtesy of what could be a defining lead on a tricky wicket. Devendra Bishoo was the wrecker-in-chief as he picked up his 4th Test fifer. He was disciplined with his lines and was clever with his flight. Roach and Holder chipped in with a couple to their name. They will now aim to make the chance count and put in a better batting effort to bat the hosts out of the game.

  • Time for Drinks! West Indies will be pleased with this hour. They have managed to send back half the home side in the hut. They would look to make further inroads. • 35.2 OUT! Williams' scratchy stay at the crease ends. It is a nothing shot. Roach bowls it on a length well wide of off, Sean pokes his bat at it needlessly. All he manages to do is get a thin edge to the keeper who makes no mistake. Sean is livid with himself and he should be. Windies are now striking regularly, Zimbabwe trail by 109.
  • 35.1 Bowled around off, Williams defends it off the front foot.
  • 34.6 Not Out! Height is indeed what saves Ervine there! Bishoo tosses it around off and middle, Craig strides forward to defend. The ball spins in past the edge of the bat to strike him flush on the pads. The players appeal but the umpire stays put. After a discussion, Holder opts for the review. Dowrich reckoned that it was bouncing over and hence wasn't sure of the review. Anyway, time for the replays. Hawk Eye confirms that the ball bounced a tad more and it would just clip the top of middle. West Indies don't lose the review though. 110/3
  • Big appeal from Windies, turned down. There's a long discussion, mainly involving the keeper Dowrich. Finally, Holder decides to opt for the review. Height could be the only factor that could save Ervine.

  • .... Day 2, Session 2 ....
  • Both Craig Ervine and Sean Williams have looked a bit troubled but the break should help them calm down and plan their innings. They still trail the visitors by 118 runs and wiping out the deficit will be their first aim. Will they do that convincingly or will the Windies continue to stay in the game with wickets? Join us in a while for the second session to know more about it.
  • 82/3 in the session and it is an even one for both the sides. Zimbabwe began positively but lost Mire to an ambitious hoick. • Tino Mawoyo, doing the pitch report, says that conditions are good for Test match cricket as the weather is bright and sunny. Reckons that spinners have a lot to work with. States that the dryness of the surface means that there are some cracks on offer. He opines that Zimbabwe have to take on the early opportunities to score runs quickly as it could get difficult once spinners come into play.
  • Windies do have a good bowling attack and their spinners would look to weave the magic that Cremer and Co. did. Zimbabwe have a blend of experience and youth in their batting line up and getting a lead to maintain their hold on the game would be their aim. Stay with us for what promises to be a compelling day of cricket.
  • It is always a delight to watch evenly contested matches and when the lesser fancied side ends a day of play on top, it makes it even better. Hello and welcome to our coverage of Day 2 of the first Test between Zimbabwe and West Indies in Bulawayo. The hosts are well-placed in the game, thanks to the visitors who collapsed from 175/3 to 219 all out. They won the toss and on a good batting deck, they imploded against the disciplined Zimbabwe spinners.
  • ... Day 2, Session 1 ...
  • For the tourists only Shai Hope and Kieran Powell showed some resistance. Roston Chase got a start but couldn't convert it. This game stands in favour of the home side at the moment. Would we see the momentum tilt in the tourists' favour tomorrow or will the hosts drive home the advantage? Join us at 1000 local time (0800 GMT) for what could be a riveting day's play. Till then, adios!
  • West Indies see off the tricky session of play and how! Solomon Mire came out all guns blazing and didn't shy away from freeing his arms. Earlier in the day, the Zimbabwe bowlers were on the money. Led by their skipper's 4-wicket haul, they skittled out the opposition quickly to finish the day on a high.
  • The two umpires are having a word with Holder not sure about what. Could be about an appeal against Mire in the last over when he was hit on the pads while trying to sweep. Kumar Dharmasena is not impressed one bit and lets it known to the visiting skipper. Such has been the day for them.

  • 1.4 FOUR! BOOM! Good length outside off, bounces more, Mire gets on top of it and pulls it over mid-wicket for a boundary. That is how he plays his cricket, but should he rein himself a touch?
  • 1.3 FOUR! Edged! Good length outside off, Mire pokes at it and gets it off the outside edge, somehow through the slip cordon for a boundary. Mire gets off the mark in Test cricket, not the way he would have wanted but he will take it.
  • 1.2 Good length outside off, punched towards covers.
  • 1.1 Angles it around off, turned towards mid-wicket by Mire.
  • Jason Holder to bowl from the other end. Should they bowl Devendra Bishoo tonight given the success the Zimbabwean spinners had?
  • 0.6 A tad short around off, blocked watchfully. 0/0
  • 0.5 Hamilton drives it confidently towards the off side.
  • 0.4 Full and just around off, swings in a touch but Masakadza lets it go through watchfully. Came in a bit more after it passed the batsman.
  • 0.3 Full and outside off, swings in a long way, Masakadza lets it go through.
  • 0.2 Bowls it around middle and leg, Masakadza tucks it towards the leg side off the edge.
  • 0.1 Length ball outside off, left alone by the batsman.
  • The visitors hold the upper hand as things stand and it'll take something special from Zimbabwe to turn things around. Don't go anywhere as the final innings will be starting in a very short while.
  • A stat that will please the fans of Zimbabwe though. The spinners for the home side have never taken as many wickets as they have in this particular Test. They have taken 16 wickets, the previous best was 15 against New Zealand at the same venue in 1997.
  • It was a decent bowling effort from the home side. The spin attack of Graeme Cremer and Sean Williams led the way with the others playing their part in this. Could have been different had they taken their chances. Now, there are two full days left in this game, and with a record target of 434 to chase down, it's safe to say it won't be a cakewalk by any means.
  • The ideal start to the day for Zimbabwe in all honesty. They've managed to scalp the remaining West Indian wickets in less than 4 overs. The main focus when play began was whether Roston Chase could get to what would have been a well-deserved ton, and he eventually couldn't get there. Jason Holder won't mind that at all though, they have more than enough on the board and will be raring to have a go at the Zimbabweans.
  • 125.6 OUT! What was the hurry, Roston Chase? The hundred was there for the taking but he has thrown it away. The field placement has brought about this rash shot from the batter. Cremer blocked all the single-taking options and Chase didn't want Gabriel to face the next over. Hence, he decides to take matters in his own hands and tries to go big. Williams invites him to do so by tossing it up around middle and leg, Chase clears his front leg and looks to go downtown but is in no position to do so. Misses the ball completely and loses his leg stick. The hosts are ecstatic and Williams celebrates like an airplane taking off. A good knock comes to an end, although Roston will be kicking himself. WINDIES FOLD UP FOR 373!
  • 125.5 Flatter around off, punched towards covers.
  • 125.4 This ball is cut away towards point.
  • 125.3 Floated outside off, Chase goes for an ugly slog across the line but ends up missing the ball completely. The ball lobs off the keeper's gloves and goes over the slips. No run though.
  • 125.2 This is bowled outside off, Roston lets it go.
  • 125.1 Fuller around off, driven towards covers.
  • 124.6 Bowled on the pads, Gabriel misses the defense. The ball lobs off his pads towards fine leg. 373/9
  • 124.5 Gabriel has his bat and pad close together and defends it by striding forward.
  • 124.4 Shannon lunges forward and blocks.
  • 124.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 124.2 This ball is punched off the back foot through covers. Chase takes a single and leaves the no. 11 to face the last four balls.
  • 124.1 Flatter on the pads, Chase lunges to defend but the ball takes the inner half and rolls towards fine leg. A couple of runs taken.
  • 123.6 Gabriel strides forward but gets an outside edge towards slip. He is safe and sound! 370/9
  • 123.5 This is bowled outside off, Gabriel fails to get bat to that.
  • 123.4 A tad shorter around off, Chase goes back and pulls it through square leg for a run. Now Gabriel has to negotiate the last two balls of the over.
  • 123.3 Punched off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 123.2 Chase goes back and punches it towards covers.
  • 123.1 Chase misjudges this! Williams floats it outside off, Roston thinks that it would spin away and leaves it alone. The ball goes straight on and passes close to the pads.
  • Sean Williams to bowl from the other end. He'll be bowling to Roston Chase. Let's see what happens here. Just the lone slip in place...
  • 122.6 Almost a replica of Dominica! Cremer floats it outside off, Gabriel is a free man, is confident of his skills and wants to play a big shot. He has a full go at this one and gets it off the inner half towards mid-wicket. Chase would have had his heart in his mouth there. He was at the receiving end when West Indies almost saved the Test against Pakistan, only for Gabriel to go for an unwanted glory shot. Entertaining for the rest but not for the Windies, one thinks. 369/9
  • 122.5 Not Out! A review wasted for a milestone. Cremer in pursuit of a hat-trick, floats it outside leg, the ball spins in a touch. Gabriel looks to clip it away but misses and gets hit on the back pad. The home side players appeal but the umpire stays unmoved. After some thought, Cremer opts to go for the DRS. Replays show that the ball pitched well outside leg. The hosts lose a review and Chase still has a chance to get to his milestone as Gabriel stays on.
  • Review! Graeme Cremer has caught Shannon Gabriel leg before and reviewed it immediately. Doesn't look out at all but you can't really blame him for doing so.
  • Shannon Gabriel is the last man in for the Windies. He comes out to face the hat-trick ball. Andy Blignaut is the only Zimbabwean to take a hat-trick in Tests against Bangladesh in 2004. Can Cremer become the second one today?
  • 122.4 OUT! What a start for Zimbabwe and Cremer! He's on a hat-trick yet again in this Test! He loops a googly around off and middle, Roach, the tailender that he is, fails to pick that up. Lunges forward to play for the leg spin but ends up missing the ball and his stumps get disturbed. Can Chase get to his ton now?
  • It's a beautiful day for a game of cricket. Everybody is set for the play to get underway. Quick runs or quick wickets, what do you think will happen this morning? Will Roston Chase get to his ton? Will West Indies declare after that? He strides out to the center and he has the new batsman Kemar Roach for company. Graeme Cremer will begin with the ball for the hosts. A slip in place.
  • Tino Mawoyo doing the pitch report, says that the pitch has degraded a lot more and it has become a lot drier. The area around the good length is the critical one, he opines. Walking to the other end, he states that the spinners could get a lot of purchase towards the City End as the cracks there have opened up a bit more. There is a big crater outside the left hander's off stump area and he reckons that leg spinners have a vital role there.
  • Hello everybody! We welcome you to our coverage of Day 4 of the first Test between Zimbabwe and Windies in Bulawayo. Roston Chase is 9 away from what would be his fourth Test ton. Thus, we can expect the visitors to continue to bat for at least an hour or so. The hosts already have a tough task on hand as they will be in pursuit of the highest run-chase in this format. Their aim first up would be to deny easy runs to the opposition. Will they be able to do so though? Stay with us to find out.
  • ... Day 4, Session 1 ...
  • Zimbabwe were guilty of having lapses on the field. They handed two lives to Brathwaite early in the day which helped the tourists march ahead with the lead. The home side's bowlers weren't too bad but they couldn't be penetrative enough to strike crucial blows to the opposition. It will be interesting to see whether the visitors declare overnight or bat for some more time before charging in with the ball. That's it from us today. Do join us tomorrow at 1000 local (0800 GMT) for what could be an attritional day of Test cricket. Till then, goodbye and take care.
  • A grinding day's play! Although Windies have taken a lead of 429, they have crawled their way there. Chase made use of the opportunity to notch up his 4th fifty in Tests. He did hurry up towards the end but couldn't get to his ton today. Only time will tell if he does get a chance to complete it. Bishoo came to the party and scored some vital runs to hurt the opposition further. Earlier, the away side was helped by grinding knocks from Brathwaite and Shai Hope. Both of them missed their milestones by a narrow margin.
  • 122.3 OUT! One too many! Greediness consumes Bishoo. Cremer tosses it up around off, Devendra gets down to slog it over deep mid-wicket but finds Williams stationed there. He nailed the shot but unfortunately found the fielder. Won't get a fifty and goes for 44, his second-best Test score. End of a good knock from him though. THAT'S STUMPS, DAY 3!
  • 122.2 FOUR! Bishoo doesn't care even if it is the last over of the day. He sees the flight offered by Cremer, gets down and hits it over square leg for a boundary.
  • 122.1 Bowls it flatter on the stumps, Bishoo stays in the crease and defends it.
  • Last over of the day! Graeme Cremer will bowl it. A slip, leg slip and a short leg in position.
  • 121.6 Floated outside off, Chase looks to defend but misses. 365/7
  • 121.5 Tossed up around off, Roston lunges forward and defends.
  • 121.4 Served in line of the stumps, defended from the crease showing the full bat face.
  • 121.3 This ball is kept out from within the crease.

  • 120.6 This ball is pushed off the back foot towards mid off. 364/7

  • 120.4 Similar delivery around off, Chase drives it straight back. The bowler sways away from it, the mid off fielder dives but can't stop and eventually mid on does so.
  • 120.3 Fuller outside off, pushed towards covers from the crease.
  • 120.2 Edged but falls short! Jarvis bangs it short around leg, Chase hops and looks to nudge it fine but gets some glove. The ball fell just short of the diving Chakabva.
  • 120.1 On a length around middle and leg, Chase stands tall and pushes it down the ground. Mid on cuts it off. No run there.
  • 119.6 FOUR! Enough of blocking for Bishoo! Williams loops it up around off, the southpaw gets down and hits it straight over the bowler's head for a boundary. 360/7
  • 119.5 Darted outside off, Chase plays it through point and crosses over to the other end.
  • 119.4 Floated around off, swept away through square leg for one.
  • 119.3 Bowled from over the wicket, Bishoo lunges forward to defend it solidly.
  • 119.2 Williams bowls it short from wide of the crease. The well-set Chase has ample time to go back and hit it through mid-wicket. Mpofu chases it down and parries it to Taylor who runs after him. The batsmen get three before the ball is back to the keeper.
  • 119.1 Floats it around middle and leg, Chase lunges forward and defends it solidly.

  • 118.5 Jarvis comes round the wicket and spears it full around off. Bishoo flicks it towards mid-wicket.
  • 118.4 Chase punches this delivery through cover-point for a single.
  • 118.3 Hurled outside off, Roston doesn't bother putting bat to it.
  • Fazeer Mohammed opines that how much ever people talk about being selfish in achieving individual records, this game is about that too and it isn't wrong. If there is time, why not aim for individual records, he argues, as eventually that's what we end up talking about.
  • 118.2 This delivery is flicked off his pads towards mid-wicket.
  • 118.1 Bowled around off, Chase stays in the crease and defends it with a straight bat.
  • 117.6 Flatter on the stumps, Devendra goes back to negotiate it safely. 350/7

  • 116.5 On a length outside off, Chase guides it towards gully.
  • 116.4 FOUR! The message from the dressing room seems to be clear. Chase looks to be in a hurry to get to his ton. He takes the aerial route and hits it over mid-wicket for a boundary.
  • 116.3 This ball is driven towards the fielder at mid off.
  • 116.2 FOUR! Not a soul moved there! It's full and wide, Chase stays where he is and absolutely creams it through covers. The ball speeds away to the boundary. Nobody bothered moving. You don't see him play these shots often but now he is doing so. Playing according to the situation.
  • 116.1 Jarvis bowls it fuller around off, Chase drives it off the inside half towards mid on.
  • Holder is in his whites. Is a declaration imminent? We don't know. There are two days left in the game, there is no hurry in terms of time.
  • Kyle Jarvis is back on. One final throw of the dice from Zimbabwe?
  • 115.6 Bowled around off and middle, Bishoo blocks it solidly. 340/7
  • 115.5 Bishoo crouches low to dead-bat it on the ground.
  • 115.4 Windies lead by 400! Chase continues his single-taking game by collecting one after driving it towards long on. Wonder how much more do they want, before they'd insert the opposition in.
  • 115.3 So near yet so far! Cremer tosses it outside off, Bishoo gets down and looks to sweep. Gets an inside edge onto his pads and the ball rolls through the keeper's legs. The batsmen cross over for a run.
  • 115.2 Graeme continues over the wicket to the southpaw and bowls it around middle and leg. Bishoo blocks it off the front foot.

  • 114.2 Served around off, Chase pushes it off the front foot towards the bowler.
  • 114.1 Chase rocks back and pushes it towards mid-wicket.
  • Ian Bishop makes a superb point on-air that it should be perfectly fine if the ball is spinning from ball one. It just needs to be consistent and unless it is dangerous (meaning extravagant and crumbling on the first few days itself), there should not be any problem. Don't think many will agree with this unpopular opinion.
  • 113.6 A forward defense exhibited to this delivery around off. 336/7
  • 113.5 Devendra punches this towards covers.

  • 112.4 Lovely committed effort by the fielder there. Raza serves a full loopy ball outside off, Roston drives it towards wide mid off. Jarvis runs to his left, dives and keeps the batsmen down to one. 50-run stand between these two. They are doing well to push the lead up.

  • 110.3 Dropped a tad short outside off, Devendra cuts it to the fielder at point.
  • Ian Bishop on-air talks about the batting stance of Roston Chase as opposed to Jermaine Blackwood, who gets stumped out often. He spots that Chase's back foot is pretty much inside the crease while Blackwood's back foot is nearly on the crease. It might be a small margin but it leads to Chase still being in the crease even when he is beaten but Blackwood gets outside the crease with the lunge. So maybe Jermaine can learn something by watching Roston bat.
  • 110.2 Bishoo strides forward and defends it off the front foot.

  • Drinks are on the field now. Zimbabwe have toiled hard without much success apart from Holder's wicket. They need some spark to trigger a batting collapse. The Caribbean side would be happy with how they are placed right now.

  • 95.4 Coming in and then turning away on off, Jason Holder comes forward and blocks.
  • 95.3 Shortens his length on this occasion, pitches it outside off, Roston goes back and cuts it to deep point for a single.
  • 95.2 Full and wide outside off, Chase drives it square and finds the man at point.
  • 95.1 Darts it very wide outside off, spins away, Chase leaves it alone.
  • 94.6 Good length around off, turned towards wide mid on for a single. 257/6
  • 94.5 Full again, driven again, to mid off but for no runs.
  • 94.4 Comes forward and drives it nicely towards mid off.
  • 94.3 Fuller outside off, Chase comes forward and drives it towards extra cover.
  • 94.2 Shorter in length around middle, Chase pulls it through backward square leg. Waller does well in the deep to stop it from going through. Two runs taken.
  • 94.1 Good length outside off, Chase stands tall and defends it.
  • Kyle Jarvis to bowl from the other end. Think the intent from Holder has something to do with this change. Just guessing though....
  • 93.6 Flatter outside off, Holder stands tall and blocks it. 254/6
  • 93.5 Fuller outside off, Holder drives it on the bounce to Cremer at covers. He takes the ball and celebrates to fool the crowd. He can't fool us though.
  • 93.4 FOUR! More runs! Williams floats it outside off, Holder comes forward and drives it through covers for a boundary. He is on 10 in just 2 balls.
  • 93.3 SIX! Holder announces his arrival! Fuller outside off, Holder comes forward and just lofts it over the long off region. The ball flies over the fence for a biggie. Does not matter if it's just the first ball, he has shown his intent already.
  • Welcome for the final session of the day's play! Jason Holder joins Roston Chase at the crease. Zimbabwe's mindset will be of restriction while Windies would look for runs. Sean Williams will complete his over.
  • ... Day 3, Session 3 ...
  • Zimbabwe wouldn't be overly satisfied as in spite of help from the deck, their returns are pretty pedestrian. Jarvis had a good spell with the second new ball and so did Williams. Post tea, the visitors could probably come out with a mindset of declaring and look to put the game beyond the hosts. The home side would want to restrict them below 350. Do join us in a while for the last session of the day.
  • A moving session! 89/4 in this second period of play. Windies still have their noses ahead as they have a healthy lead of 304 runs. Brathwaite played a wonderful knock but missed out on a deserving ton. His stand with Shai Hope acted as a catalyst in pushing the lead up.
  • 93.2 OUT! Dowrich fails again! Williams loops it around off, Dowrich pushes at it with hard hands. The ball takes the outside edge and flies towards first slip. Masakadza takes the catch bending low. That is another wicket for Sean. He has done his bit to keep his side in the game. Dowrich's poor run in Test cricket continues, which is a shame since he was looking really good.
  • 93.1 Flatter around off, Dowrich goes back and chops it towards point from his crease.
  • 92.6 Nice timing! Cremer floats it outside off, Dowrich does not mind and hence drives it through wide mid off. Jarvis does well to keep the ball in play, haring after it from mid off. Saves a run for his side. 244/5
  • 92.5 Floats it around off, Shane blocks it coming forward.
  • 92.4 Loops it around off, Dowrich gets in line and keeps it out.
  • A stat that Jermaine Blackwood wouldn't be proud of - He has been stumped 4 times in his last 7 innings. He needs to be careful with his back foot as he often slides it out and doesn't plant it back in time.
  • 92.3 FOUR! Top, top shot! Floats it outside off, Dowrich gets to the pitch of it and creams it through covers. Cremer is leaking runs here. The lead is now over 300! Advantage West Indies!
  • 92.2 Flatter around leg, Chase works it through square leg for a single.
  • 92.1 Lands it around middle, Roston goes back and defends it.
  • 91.6 Quicker around leg, Dowrich shapes to clip it through the leg side but is hit on his back leg. Stifled appeal turned down. 236/5
  • 91.5 Shorter this time, Dowrich stays back and punches it towards covers.
  • 91.4 Angles it around middle and leg, Shane is right forward and blocks it.
  • 91.3 Dowrich comes ahead and turns it towards short leg.
  • 91.2 In the air but safe! Flatter around off, Dowrich is beaten by the extra bounce and checks his defensive shot at the last moment. The ball pops off the bat and falls short of the short mid-wicket fielder.
  • 91.1 Bowls it around leg, spins away, Dowrich does well to keep it out.
  • 90.6 Lands the googly around off, turned through mid on for a single. 236/5
  • Roston Chase did work in the nets today before the start of play on his sweep shot, informs Ian Bishop on air. He's played that on the field and it is coming off pretty well here.
  • 90.5 Fuller around off, Shane comes forward and blocks it.
  • 90.4 Dowrich comes right forward and blocks it.
  • 90.3 Bowls it around off, goes straight on, Dowrich leaves it but the ball goes straight on and narrowly misses the stumps.
  • 90.2 Turns it towards mid on for a single.
  • 90.1 SIX! Up and over! Cremer floats it outside off, Chase gets under it and just launches it over long off for a maximum. Clean strike, that.
  • Graeme Cremer calls himself back on.
  • 89.6 Fuller around off, Shane comes forward and defends it. 228/5
  • 89.5 FOUR! Off the mark! Shorter around middle, Dowrich goes back in his crease and punches it through mid-wicket for a boundary. Good start for him.
  • Shane Dowrich strides out to bat.
  • 89.4 OUT! Blackwood is a goner! Williams angles it around off, Blackwood shapes to defend it from his crease but is beaten. The keeper takes the bails off and appeals. He does not look too confident though. The third umpire is referred. Replays find Blackwood's back foot is not behind the line and hence, Jermaine has to walk back to the hut. Twice in the game, he has been stumped. He should be kicking himself. Replays show that Jermaine did not attempt to get back in the crease. Ordinary stuff. The change in bowling has worked.
  • A stumping appeal against Jermaine Blackwood is referred upstairs by the square leg umpire.
  • 89.3 Fuller outside off, gets it to turn and bounce a touch more, Blackwood lets it go through.
  • 89.2 Shorter outside off, Chase punches it towards point. Mire fumbles and allows a single.
  • 89.1 FOUR! Cannot take wickets with such balls. Williams darts it too full and around leg, Chase sweeps it through backward square leg for a boundary. Gift from Sean, that.
  • Time for some spin. Sean Williams returns for a bowl. He has bowled well without much luck. Time for a change of fortunes?
  • 88.6 Fuller around middle and leg, clipped towards long leg for a single. 219/4
  • 88.5 FOUR! Thumped! Short and wide outside off, Chase gets in position and pumps it past point for a boundary.
  • 88.4 Shorter outside off, punched towards mid off by Blackwood for a single.
  • 88.3 See, we told you. Length ball from Jarvis, Blackwood gets across and just flicks it over mid-wicket. The slow outfield means that the ball slows down near the ropes. Two runs taken.
  • 88.2 Back of a length outside off, comes in, turned towards mid-wicket from the crease.
  • Jermaine Blackwood comes out to bat. There is no doubt as to how he will bat here.
  • 88.1 OUT! Jarvis strikes in time! Angles it around off on a length, gets it to come back in sharply, Hope hops a touch and looks to clip it through but is hit on his pad. The players appeal and the umpire upholds it. Hope is not sure and has a word with his partner. Goes for the review as he must be thinking since he had jumped a touch, the ball could be missing the stumps. Ball Tracker shows three reds and hence Shai has to depart. Handy knock by him. The lead is 271 runs.
  • Review time! Shai Hope is caught leg before and he's decided to take it upstairs. Looks close to the naked eye. Over to the third umpire now...
  • 87.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 211/3
  • 87.5 FOUR! Angling down leg, Chase punishes this without a second's hesitation. Just helps it on its way across the fine leg fence for a boundary.
  • 87.4 Fraction straight in line, Hope works it fine down the leg side and takes one.
  • 87.3 Full ball outside off, driven down towards mid off.
  • 87.2 Short and wide outside off, Hope flays at it but ends up missing it. He'll feel hard done by it, should have put it away.
  • 87.1 Yorker fired in on middle, Hope does well to bring his bat down in time and keep it at bay.
  • 86.6 FOUR! Slightly overpitched and that's been punished! Shot. Full outside off, Chase elegantly drives it through the gap in the covers and ends the over with a boundary. 206/3
  • 86.5 Straightening up from around off, Chase leans across to get behind the line and defends it down. Kept the elbow high and kept it out with a good technique.
  • 86.4 Short delivery on middle stump, pulled aerially through backward square leg for a single.
  • 86.3 The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.
  • 86.2 Fullish in length and attacking the stumps, Hope keeps it out with a straight bat.
  • 86.1 Keeping a bit low on middle stump, Shai Hope turns it to the mid-wicket area.
  • 85.6 Roston Chase has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 201/3
  • 85.5 Huge lbw shout! Full and angling down, catches Chase looks to whip it away on the leg side but gets rapped low on the pads. Mpofu turns and asks the question, but the umpire says nothing. It was always angling down the leg side, so good decision to not review.
  • 85.4 Good length delivery in the off stump channel, stands tall and punches it square on the off side.
  • 85.3 A firm drive but it's straight to the fielder. Chase connects well but finds the man at cover.
  • 85.2 Angling in from a length around off, straightening up off the deck, Roston Chase confidently blocks it down on the off side.
  • 85.1 Moving away from outside off, left alone.

  • 84.4 Full ball just outside off, shaping away, Hope mistimes the drive down to mid off.

  • 84.2 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 84.1 Back of a length delivery outside off, with an open face Hope dabs it to gully.
  • 83.6 Short of a good length on middle and off, Roston rises on his toes and pulls it along the ground through square leg for two. 199/3
  • 83.5 Good length ball outside off, cracked hard to the man at point.
  • 83.4 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 83.3 Brings it in closer this time, but it's still not close enough as Chase shoulders his arms to it.
  • 83.2 Wider outside off this time, another one left alone.
  • 83.1 Some seam movement for Mpofu but the line is quite wide. Not enough to make Roston Chase play at it.
  • Chris Mpofu to bowl now. He'll be sharing the second new ball with Kyle Jarvis.
  • 82.6 Angling in at first but then straightening up a shade, Shai Hope comfortably plays it down right under his nose. 197/3
  • 82.5 Keeps it on the fuller side, well outside off, no trouble for the batsman to let it be.
  • 82.4 Fuller length delivery on the fifth stump line, Hope comes forward, reaches out to it and blocks.
  • 82.3 FOUR! Too full, too straight and he's paid the price for it. Shai Hope just has to get something on it and he gets enough. Tickles it fine down the leg side and sends it across the fine leg fence.
  • 82.2 Short of a good length coming back into the body, Hope looks to work it away on the off side but gets it off the inner half towards mid on.
  • 82.1 A completely different sound off the bat with the new ball. Jarvis with a back of a length delivery which zips off the deck, Hope hops and defends it off the outer half in front of point.
  • Kyle Jarvis back on for another spell. The second new ball has been taken and he will be the first one to have a go with it. Two slips and a gully in place.
  • 81.6 Full and flat, not much turn on this occasion, driven straight back to the bowler. 193/3
  • 81.5 Spinning away a shade around off, defended down on the track from inside the crease.
  • 81.4 Bit short again, quicker through the air outside off, dabbed away from the body down to third man for two more.
  • 81.3 On a flatter trajectory on leg, Roston Chase goes back and whips it through mid-wicket for a double.
  • 81.2 Tossed up on middle and off, Chase clears his front leg and drives it to cover.
  • 81.1 Drifting on middle and leg, Chase works it around his pads just wide of short leg.
  • Drinks are on the field!
  • 80.6 Hangs back inside the crease and ensures to end the over without any damage. 189/3

  • 80.2 Floated on the leg stump line again, tucked towards short fine leg.

  • 79.4 A lot of loop on this, full in length, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 79.3 Darted wide outside off, Roston reaches out to it and dabs it late down towards third man. Picks up a couple for doing so.
  • 79.2 Turning and bouncing from around off, Hope rocks back and cuts it square of the wicket on the off side. Solomon Mire gives it a long chase and does well to just about pull it back inside the rope. Great effort, saves a run for his side.
  • 79.1 Some bite off the surface as Williams bowls it on off, Hope closes the face a bit too early and spoons a leading edge which falls safely a bit square on the off side.
  • 78.6 Loopy full delivery on middle, Chase plays it back to Raza. 182/3
  • 78.5 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. Another dot.

  • 76.3 Chase is off the mark without wasting any time. He goes deep within his crease and whips it through mid-wicket for a single.
  • Roston Chase is next in to bat.
  • 76.2 OUT! Raza has his man! Kraigg Brathwaite is dismissed after being given two lives. Raza continues from around the wicket and floats it up around off, it spins in as Brathwaite moves across to block. Is caught flush in front of the stumps and the umpire has no trouble at all to raise his finger in response to the lbw appeal. Kraigg didn't even bother thinking of reviewing that, it was that clear. Brathwaite departs, but has made a significant contribution with his 86 on a difficult batting track. Excellent knock. Zimbabwe have their breakthrough here, can they make further inroads from this point?
  • 76.1 Turning in on middle and leg, worked past short leg.

  • 71.5 Hangs back and meets it with the full face of the bat.
  • 71.4 Shorter on middle and off, Hope goes back and wrists it towards mid-wicket. His partner wants the run but he immediately shouts 'NO' and sends him back. Good call, the fielder got to the ball rather quickly.
  • 71.3 Tossed up on middle, Hope clears his front leg and drives it to the covers, attempting to penetrate the off side field. Is still unable to do that as of now.
  • Kraigg Brathwaite's on side play is much stronger and better than his off side. The reason for this, as observed by Ian Bishop, is that he is a strong bottom-handed player and hence finds it easier to play deliveries to the leg side. Shai Hope, on the other hand is equally adept at playing on both side of the wickets. He concludes saying that it is not to suggest that one is better than the other as both have been scoring runs consistently.

  • 69.4 Landed outside off, guarded out from the back foot.
  • 69.3 Lovely drive, connected well but is unfortunate it went straight to the fielder. With a beautiful extension of the arms Hope brought out the cover drive, only to be unable to pierce the gap.
  • 69.2 Pushed slightly quicker through the air and outside off, Hope off the back foot keeps it out on the off side.
  • 69.1 Loopy leg spinner outside off, driven to the cover fielder.
  • 68.6 Stays right behind the line and keeps it out safely. 164/2
  • 68.5 Not much spin on this occasion, full in line of the stumps, met with a straight bat.
  • 68.4 Floats it right up there, around off, pushed away off the front foot.
  • 68.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 68.2 On middle and leg, worked away to mid-wicket.
  • 68.1 Lbw appeal straight up! From around the wicket, it's darted really full around leg. Catches Brathwaite on the pads on his attempted sweep shot and there's a loud shout. Nothing from the umpire though, pitched outside the line of leg stump.
  • Sikandar Raza is into the attack. He has a slip and a short leg in place.

  • 67.1 Wrong 'un around off, spinning in, Shai Hope is solid in defense.
  • 66.6 Swinging back in from around off, on a bit of a fuller length, Brathwaite meets it with the full face of the bat. 162/2
  • 66.5 Goes full again, it's defended easily from the front foot.
  • 66.4 FOUR! Short again, trying to peg Brathwaite back but it doesn't bounce much at all. He goes back, moves inside the line and tickles it fine down the leg side. Malcolm Waller at fine leg runs to his right and tries to stop it with a dive, but fails in his attempt to do so.
  • 66.3 Good length delivery in the channel outside off, left alone for the keeper to collect.
  • 66.2 Fuller in length and around that off stump line, Kraigg comes half-forward to push it back down the track.
  • 66.1 Bit short in length, outside off, not much on that from the deck as Brathwaite deals with it rather easily.

  • 64.5 Full ball reversing an appreciable amount, Brathwaite flicks it to mid-wicket and picks up a quick single.
  • 64.4 Full and well outside off, a bit slower in pace, the batsman reaches out to it and defends it on the on side from the inner half.
  • 64.3 Good length ball shaping away a shade from around off, Kraigg opens the face of the bat and taps it in front of point.
  • 64.2 Keeps it nice and straight. Fuller in length, it's pushed back in the bowler's direction.
  • 64.1 Immediately makes it come back into the batsman, Brathwaite stands his ground and defends it down on the leg side.
  • Kyle Jarvis will bowl from the other end. He bowled with good purpose in the first session. Can he replicate it now or do better?
  • 63.6 Served in line of the stumps, Shai lunges forward to defend. 156/2
  • 63.5 Shai Hope goes back to this one to keep it out safely.

  • 63.1 Floats it around off, Brathwaite lunges forward to block it.
  • Welcome back! The Windies are just bossing around both, the Zimbabwe bowlers as well as the tricky conditions. The hosts would want to put up a fight and for that, they need to be on the mark on the field. Will Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope, who walk out to resume their innings, continue to keep the bowlers at bay? Graeme Cremer will start the proceedings with the ball. A slip and short leg in place.
  • ... Day 3, Session 2 ...
  • Another good session for the tourists! They will be happy having just lost the one wicket of Kyle Hope in this morning session. With 67 runs being scored, the lead has now swelled up to 215 and all signs point towards the visitors racking up a big target for Zimbabwe. The home side could have gone into the break a happier bunch, had Kraigg Brathwaite not been dropped twice off skipper Graeme Cremer's bowling. He has already scored a fifty and will want to kick on. If early wickets are not taken in the post-lunch session, the game could very well slip out of the hands of the hosts. Join us for the second session in a while.
  • 62.6 Floated around middle and leg, Brathwaite works it in front of square on the leg side and collects a run. That's Lunch, Day 3! 155/2

  • 59.6 Floated full around leg, Kraigg flicks it through mid-wicket for a run. 146/2
  • 59.5 Dropped! Would you believe it? Brathwaite is the beneficiary yet again and Chakabva the culprit. Cremer tosses this beautifully around middle and leg, Brathwaite lunges forward to block but gets a thin outside edge towards the keeper, who fluffs it. He went at it with hard hands and hence faltered. The skipper of Zimbabwe is doing his bit to create chances but he isn't getting support from the fielders. Kraigg bats on.
  • 59.4 Floated in line of the stumps, Kraigg blocks it off the front foot.
  • 59.3 FOUR! Bottom hand of Brathwaite comes into play there. Cremer tosses it around off, Kraigg allows it to pitch and drives it straight down the ground. Mid on gives it a chase but to no avail.
  • 59.2 Shai goes back to this one and works it towards wide mid on. He crosses over to the other end.
  • 59.1 Flighted full ball around middle and leg, Hope drives it towards mid off.
  • 58.6 Again a harmless delivery outside off, moves in after pitching. Brathwaite has nothing to do with it and lets it go. 140/2
  • 58.5 Shorter length around off, Shai stays back and pulls it through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 58.4 On a length outside off, Hope shoulders arms and lets it go.
  • 58.3 Hurled in line of the stumps, Brathwaite flicks it through square leg and takes a run.
  • 58.2 This delivery is driven back towards the bowler.
  • 58.1 Fuller around off, driven towards covers.
  • 57.6 Brathwaite drives it towards long off for a run. 138/2
  • 57.5 Brathwaite gets behind the line of the ball and defends it.

  • 57.3 This ball is blocked off the front foot onto the ground.
  • 57.2 Fuller around off, driven to mid off.
  • 57.1 Dropped! Masakadza grasses one here! Cremer tosses it up outside off, Brathwaite lunges forward to defend but gets a thick outside edge. The ball goes low towards the right of slip, where Masakadza dives. He has a second go at it but still fails to cling on. Brathwaite survives. How costly will this be?
  • 56.6 Served around middle and leg, Hope works it through backward square leg and hares back for the second. 137/2
  • 56.5 Gets straighter and bowls it around middle and leg, Brathwaite clips it towards fine leg for one run.
  • 56.4 Bowled outside off, Kraigg pushes it towards covers.
  • The Zimbabwe team physio is out in the middle. He is seen giving some tablets to Mire. It's very hot out there and that might be affecting the bowler.
  • 56.3 Mire hurls it on a length outside off, Brathwaite shoulders arms to that. The ball goes on the bounce to the keeper.
  • 56.2 Landed outside off, Kraigg pushes it towards covers.
  • 56.1 Starts off with a length ball outside off, Brathwaite stands tall and blocks it to the off side.
  • Solomon Mire is brought into the attack. He showed how capable he is with the ball in the first innings with the wicket of Kyle Hope. He had bowled very good lines then. Can he repeat it?
  • 55.6 Brathwaite drives it to long off for a run. 134/2
  • 55.5 Loopy ball in line of the stumps, blocked solidly from the crease.
  • 55.4 Cremer lands it on a shorter length around off, Hope goes back and pulls it towards wide mid on. One run taken.
  • 55.3 Bowled outside off, Shai shows no intentions of playing it.
  • 55.2 Floated around off, driven towards covers.
  • 55.1 Flatter on the pads, he flicks it away towards short fine leg.
  • 54.6 Fuller delivery, driven to the fielder at mid on. 132/2
  • 54.5 This ball is punched through covers for a run.
  • 54.4 Edged! Just short of the keeper! Mpofu bowls an off cutter on a length outside off. Hope hangs back to cut it again. Gets an outside edge but the ball lands just in front of Chakabva behind the stumps. Mpofu cannot believe his luck there.
  • 54.3 FOUR! Lovely shot that! Length delivery just outside off, Hope puts his weight on the back foot and cuts it brilliantly through backward point. The ball is well timed and it races away to the fence.
  • 54.2 Fuller around off and middle, Brathwaite clips it towards wide mid on and sprints across for a single.
  • 54.1 Fuller outside off, Brathwaite drives it to covers.
  • 53.6 Hope negotiates this safely by flicking it towards square leg from the crease. 126/2
  • 53.5 This ball is driven to the cover fielder.
  • 53.4 Served around off, Hope covers his stumps, allows the ball to turn and shoulders arms.
  • 53.3 Floated full in line of the stumps, Hope drives it back to the bowler.
  • 53.2 Hope goes back to this one and punches it to covers.
  • 53.1 Looped full around middle and leg, Brathwaite flicks it towards mid-wicket and crosses over to the other end.
  • 52.6 Similar delivery and sequence of actions like the previous ball. 125/2
  • 52.5 Fuller outside off, left alone by Shai.
  • 52.4 On a length outside off, Shai pushes it defensively towards point.
  • 52.3 Mpofu bowls it full around off and gets it to shape in a bit. Brathwaite does well to play it in front of square on the on side for a run.
  • 52.2 Hurled outside off, Brathwaite taps it towards covers.
  • 52.1 Landed around off, Kraigg stays in the crease and defends that.
  • 51.6 This ball is kept out with a solid forward defense. 124/2
  • 51.5 Shorter outside off, Hope stays back and cuts it towards point.
  • 51.4 This ball is played through mid on for a run.
  • 51.3 Cleverly, Hope flicks it towards wide mid on for a single.
  • 51.2 FOUR! Cremer certainly wouldn't be happy with the way he bowled that. Serves a long hop around middle and off, Hope goes back and pulls it over mid-wicket. Gets it off the bottom part of his bat and hence gets a boundary. Shai is miffed with himself as he missed out on a certain biggie there.
  • 51.1 Floats it outside off, Hope drives it to covers.
  • Graeme Cremer is coming on to bowl now. Although Williams, who he replaces, troubled the batsman, that didn't translate into a wicket. The skipper would want to rectify that.
  • 50.6 Shai drives it towards long on for a single. 118/2
  • 50.5 This is too wide to make Hope play.
  • This pitch isn't easy to bat on for a new batsman. Shai Hope is finding that out with every passing minute. That's why it was even more imperative for a set Kyle Hope to carry on longer.
  • 50.4 Landed in line of the stumps, blocked off the front foot.
  • 50.3 Speared outside off, Hope drives it towards covers.
  • 50.2 Hope gets behind the line of the ball and defends it solidly.
  • 50.1 No Mpofu, don't bowl there! He serves a half volley around middle, Brathwaite is too good to miss out on such opportunities. He clips it nicely through mid-wicket and gets three as the ball slows down before the ropes.
  • 49.6 Hope gets nicely forward to defend it onto the ground. 114/2
  • 49.5 Another delivery outside off, left alone.
  • 49.4 Flatter outside off, Hope covers the stumps and doesn't play at that.
  • 49.3 Just over! Williams floats it outside off, Hope looks to cut it but is early into the shot. The ball bounces a bit more and catches the top edge that flies over the leaping cover fielder. No damage done. This was much like Chakabva's dismissal in the first innings. Only difference being that this flew over covers while the dismissal was at backward point.
  • During the drinks break, one member of the groundstaff was hammering down the landing area of the bowler to settle it.
  • 49.2 Bowled outside off, Shai doesn't bother to play it.
  • 49.1 Williams bowls it outside off, the ball stays low even as it spins. Hope looks to cut it but gets a bottom edge to the off side.
  • Allan Wilkins informs that Max Walker, the Australian fast bowler used to have different grip for every single ball he bowled in his first two overs to figure out what was the best way to go about it. He also adds that the great Andy Roberts too struggled to control the swing on the new ball and hence often used to hold it on the side to have better control.
  • 48.6 This ball is pushed back towards the bowler. 114/2
  • 48.5 Length ball outside off, Brathwaite stays in the crease and defends it towards point.
  • 48.4 This ball is driven towards mid on.
  • 48.3 Shorter outside off, Brathwaite's cut finds the point fielder.
  • 48.2 Hurled outside off, driven towards covers.
  • 48.1 Mpofu bowls it full outside off, Brathwaite lets it be.
  • Drinks break! The visitors continue to crawl ahead in the game. Jarvis was going through a very good spell in the morning, making use of the reverse swing to good effect. Kraigg Brathwaite and Kyle Hope did well to negotiate that for a major period till the pitch helped in bringing the latter's downfall. Zimbabwe would now look to make use of this opening to prize out some more scalps. Chris Mpofu will bowl for the first time today.
  • 47.6 Bowled in line of the stumps, Shai lunges forward and blocks it. 114/2
  • 47.5 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 47.4 Now he knocks this towards long on for a run.
  • 47.3 14th Test fifty for Kraigg Brathwaite. It has been a good knock from him. Windies needed someone to bat sensibly to extend their lead and the opener has done just that. He shouldn't think that his job is over yet and should look to carry on. Coming to the ball, it was looped up around middle and leg, Brathwaite flicked it through mid-wicket for a brace.
  • 47.2 Landed on the pads, Kraigg flicks it towards square leg.
  • 47.1 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • The silly point moves to short leg now.
  • 46.6 This ball is flicked away off his pads. 111/2
  • 46.5 Brathwaite flicks it towards mid-wicket. But a misfield there allows him a run. Zimbabwe need to be tidier on the field.
  • Ian Bishop on-air is comparing his bowling style with someone like Waqar Younis. He says that while he relied on his height and bowled it short, Younis used to aim for the yorker every ball. Hence the latter was a better exponent of the reverse swing as he bowled it fuller as opposed to Bishop who used to bowl on a back of a length.
  • 46.4 This delivery in line of the stumps is blocked from the crease.
  • 46.3 Length delivery down the leg side, Kraigg doesn't play at that and lets it go.
  • 46.2 On a length around middle and leg, Hope nudges it down to fine leg for a single.
  • 46.1 On a length outside off, Shai taps it towards cover-point.
  • 45.6 Bowled in line of the stumps, Kraigg strides forward and blocks it. 109/2
  • 45.5 Fuller around off, Shai drives it through mid off to get off the mark with a run.
  • 45.4 Shai goes back and pushes it towards point.
  • 45.3 Floated outside off, Hope looks to play at that but misses due to the spin there.
  • 45.2 Brathwaite drives it towards long off and takes a run.
  • 45.1 Served in line of the stumps, Kraigg goes back to block it from the crease.
  • 44.6 Fuller around off, driven straight back to the bowler. 107/2
  • 44.5 Jaffa first up! Jarvis bowls it on a length just outside off, Shai expects the ball to nip back in and plays for that. But this one moves just a touch to beat the outside edge of the bat. Kyle Jarvis is getting the ball to talk here!
  • Shai Hope replaces his brother Kyle Hope at the crease. He is going through a good run of form and would look to pile up some more runs under his belt.
  • 44.4 OUT! Jarvis' efforts reap rewards, finally! He spears it outside off, the ball reverses into the batsman. Kyle Hope misses the flick and gets hit on the pads. The Zimbabweans appeal and the umpire upholds that. Hope has a chat with his partner about the review but is told to continue walking back. To be fair to him, he expected the ball to get up but it stayed low. Reverse swing combined with low bounce helps the hosts break the 82-run stand. Kyle Hope walks back after registering his best Test score, he would have wished to carry on though.
  • Cremer is not happy with the shape of the ball and approaches the umpire, who checks it with the help of 8-shaped gauge and reckons that all's good to continue.
  • 44.3 Jarvis changes his length and bangs it short around off. Brathwaite is caught by surprise yet does well to jump and tuck it towards fine leg for a run.
  • 44.2 Speared outside off, Kraigg shoulders arms and lets it be.
  • 44.1 Fuller outside off, Hope taps it towards mid off and sets off for a run. The fielder hurls a wild throw at the keeper's end which misses Chakabva and goes towards fine leg. No extra run though.
  • 43.6 Flatter in line of the stumps, the batsman goes back and gets a soft edge towards point. 105/1
  • A stat that will not please the fans of Zimbabwe. They suffered the second worst 9-wicket collapse in Tests, losing nine wickets for just 68 runs. Has it cost them the game already? They will hope not.
  • 43.5 Brathwaite gets forward and defends it with a straight bat.
  • 43.4 Landed around off and middle, Kraigg again pushes it defensively towards the bowler.
  • 43.3 Looped up in line of the stumps, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 43.2 Floated fuller around off, Kyle drives it to long off and crosses over to the other end.
  • 43.1 Served around off, Hope goes back and guides it towards short third man.
  • 42.6 This is bowled around off and middle, Kraigg gets nicely behind and defends it with a straight bat. 104/1
  • 42.5 Similar delivery again, Brathwaite is having some trouble with this. Again gets it off the inner half to short leg.
  • 42.4 Close again! Jarvis is using the reverse swing to good effect here. He hurls it around middle, Brathwaite gets it off the inner half of the bat again. It goes agonisingly past the deepish short leg fielder to mid-wicket.
  • 42.3 Defends this delivery towards mid on.
  • 42.2 Hurled around middle, Brathwaite gets it off the inner half of the bat. It goes through the forward short leg fielder and races away through mid-wicket. He gets a brace. To be fair to the fielder there, he didn't have any time to react to that.
  • 42.1 Jarvis lands it fuller around off, Brathwaite gets nicely forward and pushes it to mid off. A hint of reverse swing there.
  • 41.6 This ball is flicked towards square leg. 102/1
  • 41.5 Served around off, Kyle gets forward and smothers it onto the ground.
  • 41.4 Hope stays back and keeps it out from the crease.
  • 41.3 Hope gets solidly behind that and blocks it onto the ground.
  • 41.2 Again the spiteful spin on display. Williams tosses it up generously around off and middle, Hope lunges forward but finds the ball turn past the edge of the bat. Lovely delivery.
  • 41.1 Floated in line of the stumps, Brathwaite nudges it towards short fine leg for a run.
  • 40.6 Beautifully bowled! It is on a length just outside off, Hope pushes at it but gets beaten. The ball nipped away ever so slightly to beat the edge of the bat. This is a good line and length to persist with. 101/1
  • 40.5 Fuller ball outside off, Kyle gets nicely forward and drives it to mid off.
  • 40.4 Nicely bowled. Full delivery around middle and leg, Hope does well to dig it out towards the bowler.
  • 40.3 Straight outside off, Hope shoulders arms to leave it alone.
  • 40.2 Length delivery around off, Hope stands where he is and tries to punch it. Ends up playing it onto his pads. A puff of dust is seen after the ball pitched.
  • 40.1 Served on a length outside off, Brathwaite defends it with half a mind. Gets it off the outer half of the bat towards cover-point for a run.
  • 39.6 Hope stays back to keep this out safely. 100/1
  • 39.5 This ball is pushed back towards the bowler.
  • 39.4 Loopy delivery around off, Hope looks to defend but gets it off the inner half onto the ground.
  • 39.3 100 up for Windies! This is floated around off, Hope cover drives it. The fielder there dives but is unable to get to the ball. A couple of runs taken.
  • 39.2 This delivery around off is driven through covers for a single.
  • 39.1 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 38.6 Big appeal but the umpire shows no interest. Bowled on a length around off, Hope is stuck in the crease as he looks to flick. Gets hit on the pad which draws a huge shout. The umpire is unmoved. The hosts think of a review but decide against it. The ball would have gone over the stumps, as shown by Hawk Eye. Good decision. 97/1
  • While stealing the run there, Brathwaite was seen running in the danger area. He needs to be careful there.
  • 38.5 Hurled on a length around off, Kyle gets nicely behind that and defends it next to the pitch on the leg side.
  • 38.4 On a length around off, Hope stays in the crease and bunts it.
  • 38.3 Well run! Similar delivery, Brathwaite taps it towards mid on and sees that Mire is late in getting to it. Steals a quick single by haring to the other end. The fielder mimes a throw to the keeper's end.
  • 38.2 Pitched further up to the batsman, Brathwaite gets forward but gets it off the inner half towards mid on.
  • 38.1 Landed in line of the stumps, Kraigg flicks it towards mid-wicket.
  • 37.6 Hope goes back to this and hits it towards mid-wicket. 96/1

  • 37.4 Hope covers the line and flicks it towards mid-wicket.
  • 37.3 Flighted fuller around off, Hope defends it getting forward.
  • 37.2 FOUR! Don't ball short on this track. It won't fetch you wickets but will leak runs. Williams serves a half-tracker around middle, Hope is quick to go back and pull it over mid-wicket for a boundary. That's the first of the day.
  • 37.1 Tossed up around off, Hope watchfully blocks it off the front foot.
  • 36.6 Fuller again on the same line, Kraigg pushes it defensively towards mid-wicket. 92/1
  • 36.5 Fuller around off and middle, Brathwaite gets forward and defends it towards mid-wicket.
  • It was interesting to note that in the 1st innings, Sean Williams talked about squeezing the runs which led to the Windies batsmen struggling and it resulted in a collapse. Zimbabwe were guilty of giving away too many runs too easily yesterday. Looks like they have gone back to the 'Give no runs' plan and are keeping things tight.
  • 36.4 Bowled on the pads, Hope gets it off the inner half towards fine leg for a run.
  • 36.3 Speared straight on a length, Hope misses the flick and wears it high on the thigh pads.
  • 36.2 Full outside off, Kyle doesn't bother putting bat to that.
  • 36.1 Hurled on a length around off, Hope stays back and blocks it towards covers.
  • 35.6 Bowled in line of the stumps, the batsman defends it off the front foot. 91/1
  • 35.5 Served around off, Brathwaite gets forward to defend but gets an edge that dies towards the slip. He needs to forget this ball and continue to play normally as such deliveries will keep coming on such a track.
  • 35.4 Floated around off and middle, Kraigg gets nicely forward and defends.
  • 35.3 Kraigg lunges forward to smother the spin.
  • 35.2 Flatter in line of the stumps, Brathwaite goes back to flick it away but gets a leading edge past silly point.

  • 34.6 Similar delivery, Kyle pushes it towards mid-wicket off the front foot. 91/1
  • 34.5 Fuller around off and middle, Hope clips it with the angle through mid-wicket and collects a brace.
  • 34.4 That stayed low! The pitch has started playing mischief already. Jarvis bowls it on a length outside off, Hope plays for the length. The ball refuses to get up and passes under his bat and goes through to the keeper. Good for the batsman that the ball wasn't in line of the stumps. Not good signs these for the hosts, who have to bat last here.
  • 34.3 On a length outside off, Hope goes back and defends it towards point.
  • 34.2 Length outside off, Brathwaite punches it through cover-point for a run.
  • 34.1 Begins with a delivery around off, Brathwaite blocks it towards mid-wicket.

  • 33.5 This ball is cut away towards cover-point.
  • 33.4 Vicious turn again! Tossed up around middle, Hope strides forward to block but the ball spins away sharply.
  • 33.3 Williams is lucky to get away with that. Shorter outside off, Hope finds the cover fielder with the slap.
  • 33.2 Straighter one outside off, Kyle shoulders arms to let that go.
  • 33.1 Turn straightaway! Lands it around off, Hope comes half-forward to defend. But the ball spins away past the edge of the bat.
  • Everybody is set for play to get underway. The overnight unbeaten pair of Brathwaite and Hope stride out to bat. Can they prolong the good work done so far? The hosts would like to end the adamant approach of the batters. Sean Williams to have a go first up. A slip and a silly point in place.
  • Tino Mawoyo doing the pitch report reckons the conditions are good for spinners and there's a little bit of breeze across the ground. Adds there are lots of cracks on the surface, it's drying up and the off spinners, especially, can attack the batsmen and cause problems. Opines that the West Indies batsmen used their feet well to get to the pitch and negate the spin yesterday. Ends by saying that Zimbabwe have their work cut out today.
  • Looking at the turn on offer, Zimbabwe wouldn't hope against skittling out the visitors as quickly as possible. However, rather than letting the pitch play the part, the hosts were guilty of trying a bit too hard, thereby being undisciplined. They would do well to learn from that and be on the money right away. Stay with us to see if Zimbabwe can make a comeback.
  • Welcome to Day 3 of the 1st Test between Zimbabwe and Windies in Bulawayo. Both teams have had a day to their credit in the game. The tourists have wrested back the initiative, courtesy their bowling and hence are on top at the moment. They would look to drive home the advantage and extend their lead, which stands at 148 currently, to anything over 300. The current pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Kyle Hope is already on the right track with an unbeaten half century stand.
  • ... Day 3, Session 1 ...
  • West Indies will be delighted with their work. Devendra Bishoo led the fightback with a five-wicket haul that ensured his side got a 60-run lead. Despite losing Kieran Powell to Graeme Cremer, the tourists are right on top thanks to the stand between Kraigg Brathwaite and Kyle Hope. The hosts were too eager with the ball as well and it showed in their poor bowling. The lead is reaching 150 and the hosts would know anything over 250 on this wicket could mean trouble. Should be another fighting day of Test cricket. Join us for all the action on Day 3 tomorrow at 1000 local (0800 GMT). Until then, it's goodbye and take care.
  • What an enthralling day of Test cricket! Zimbabwe began the day right on top but now are lagging behind in the game. They have nobody but themselves to blame for this though. After having bowled out the tourists for a low score, they needed to bat with application and determination but they let themselves down with some ordinary cricket. Nobody cared to apply on this wicket apart from Craig Ervine and the result is for all to see.

  • 28.6 Stays back to turn one through the leg side but almost hits it into the hands of the waiting leg slip fielder. A single taken as the ball goes wide of the fielder. Things happening but a little too late in the day, not that the hosts will mind. The lead is now 143 runs. 83/1
  • 28.5 Brathwaite comes forward and blocks this one.
  • 28.4 Bowls it flatter around leg, Brathwaite lunges forward to defend but hits it in the air towards short leg. Ervine cannot get to the ball in time. You need to make most of such chances.

  • 27.5 Quicker around off, Kyle comes right forward and keeps it out.

  • 25.4 Shorter outside off, punched to covers.
  • 25.3 Fuller around middle, Brathwaite clips it through mid-wicket for a couple of runs. 50-run stand up comes up between the two and it is an important one in context of the game.
