  • UPDATE 1930 LOCAL TIME - The news from the centre is that we have a game on our hands and it's going to be a 47-over chase with a target of 231 for India. The game is scheduled to resume at 2000 LOCAL.
  • UPDATE 1918 LOCAL TIME - The covers are coming off as the rain has stopped. Stay tuned for further updates.
  • 1845 LOCAL TIME - Bad news folks, the second innings was scheduled to begin by now but it has started raining heavily. The cut-off time for a 20-over match is 2155 LOCAL TIME, post which there will be no further play today. However, there is a reserve day tomorrow so in case we don't finish the game by 2315 LOCAL TIME, the remaining overs can be completed tomorrow. Just to let you guys know, the reserve day applies for all the remaining games as well.
  • Bumrah was the main man with the ball and he finished with figures of 10-2-43-4. The rest of the bowlers also did their job well. Chahal picked up two wickets while Pandya and Patel chipped in with one apiece. India look favourites to win this one as well but stranger things have happened in cricket. The pitch is expected to be better for batting in the second innings so the run-chase should be easy for the visitors. Stay tuned for the run-chase after the break.
  • India will be happy with the way they restricted Sri Lanka. However, there are a few causes of concern. First they leaked 22 runs as extras which included 11 wides. Also, Hardik Pandya pulled out with a muscle injury and it will be interesting to see if he is deemed fit enough to bat. Hopefully for India, it is nothing too serious and the all-rounder will be ready if required.
  • Siriwardana and Kapugedera were the two who steadied the ship and ensured Sri Lanka cross the 200-run mark with a 91-run stand. The former even got to his 3rd ODI fifty on his comeback. However, they could not go on till the end as Bumrah was once again sensational at the death as he conceded only 14 runs in three overs with 3 scalps.
  • Sri Lanka will be pleased with the total on the board after suffering a bit of a collapse in the middle overs. The openers started cautiously. They both got starts with Dickwella really looking good with his shots. However, the onslaught was stopped as Bumrah picked the first of his four wickets in the form of the Lankan keeper. The spinners then came in and kept it tight.
  • 49.6 Dug in short on middle, Chameera uses his feet and swings hard at it across the line. Ends up missing it completely. Dhoni fumbles and the batsmen set off to sneak in a bye. The keeper doesn't recover in time and a run is taken. SRI LANKA FINISH ON 236/8.
  • 49.5 Well bowled! Slower one outside off, Chameera looks to tap it square of the wicket on the off side but misses.

  • 49.2 Very full and tailing in on middle. Chameera plays it to square leg where Chahal dives to his right to stop it. Keeps it to a single.
  • 49.1 Yorker on the boots, Fernando looks to dig it out but gets an inside edge to fine leg for a run.

Bowls a slower one on a length on middle, Dananjaya makes room and tries to go big over mid-wicket but miscues it completely. The ball spoons in the air behind the bowler. Patel moves to his left from mid off and takes it easily.
  • 48.1 FOUR! Shot! Short delivery in line of the stumps, Dananjaya makes room and drags his pull over mid-wicket to find the fence.

  • 46.5 Full length this time. It has been played off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 46.4 Shortish ball and Danajaya looks for the pull. The ball goes off the toe-end of the bat towards mid off. Dananjaya sets off for the single. Axar Patel makes a good stop and has a shy at the non-striker's end. A direct hit would have gotten him as Danajaya was nowhere near the crease. Lucky run for Sri Lanka.

  • 46.2 The decision remains! The ball was a yorker on middle and Kapugedera looked to defend it but got an inside edge onto the pads. Kohli went for the review when the umpire said not out for the lbw appeal. Replays confirmed there was an inside edge there.

  • 45.4 The batsman goes after this one but misses the line completely.
  • 45.3 In the air and dropped! Yuzvendra Chahal what have you done! The ball was full on off and Kapugedera went across the line looking for a biggie over deep mid-wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal did the hard work of getting there but failed to keep the ball in his hands. The ball was going towards the ropes but Chahal dived and stopped it from crossing the ropes at the last moment. The umpire wanted to check if he had touched the ropes during contact with the ball but replays showed that it was a clean save. Two runs taken in the end.

  • Akila Dananjaya comes out to bat.
  • 44.6 OUT! The slog-overs specialist strikes! Bumrah steams in and bowls a slower ball on off. It's on a length and Siriwardana backs away to shape for a big hit. He intends to flat-bat it over mid off but only manages to slice it off the outer half of his bat towards extra cover. Rohit Sharma stationed there doesn't need to move an inch and pouches it safely. A very good knock from Milinda comes to an end and also the 91-run stand. 212/6

  • INDIA WIN THE TOSS AND ELECTED TO BOWL FIRST!
  • Hello and welcome for the second ODI between Sri Lanka and India at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. India won the first match convincingly and have a chance to go two up in the 5-match series. The weather forecast for the rest of the day is pretty positive and hopefully nothing untoward happens. Sri Lanka will be all fired up after the recent loss so this is going to be feisty affair for sure. Stay tuned as the toss is coming up in a bit!
  • Right then! It would take some time for Sri Lanka to sink this loss. They put up a real good fight and nearly gave the Indians a run for their money but in the end failed to capitalize on the platform that was set. The pressure now stays firmly on them as another loss would see the series go away from their hands. Can they keep the Men in Blue at bay? Or will Kohli and co. seal the deal in the third ODI? Join us on 27th August, 2017 at 1430 local (0900 GMT) to find out. Until then, it's goodbye and take care. Cheers!
  • Virat Kohli says that it was an exciting game of cricket which gave them a good test. Informs seeing two 100-run stands in a 237-run chase was quite bizarre but felt good to come through. Mentions that he doesn't regret experimenting with the batting order. Backs it by informing they were sent to slog but got out to good deliveries. Praises Akila Dananjaya for mixing it up well and outfoxing the Indian batsmen.
  • Upul Tharanga is really disappointed to have not cross the finish line. Rues the fact that they failed to create further in-roads after having an upper hand. Credits Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for playing so well and taking their side through. Ends up saying he is really proud of his boys and gives a special credit to his bowlers and fielders and lauds the effort of Siriwardana and Kapugedera for putting up runs on the board.
  • Man of the Match, Akila Dananjaya says that the off spin was working so he continuously used the variation. Adds that he had his wedding yesterday and reached the hotel late at night.
  • As the saying goes - "It's never over, until it's over" was something we got to witness thereafter. Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar kept a calm head and countered through the turbulent tide. The latter in particular, was exceptional with his defense and aggression. He registered his maiden ODI fifty and recorded a 100-run stand for the 8th wicket which helped him bail his side out of an embarrassment. True to say that, the experiments failed miserably for India but they will take a leaf out of this extra ordinary effort from their No. 9. Stay tuned as Roshan Abeysinghe is out there for presentation...
  • What a victory for India this is. Something that they will cheer for a very long time. Not many would believe it if you tell them, India started the chase in a stunning manner with Rohit and Dhawan motoring along quite well. They raises 109 and it seemed like this match is heading towards one side. But, a young Akila Dananjaya changed the complexion of the game. He ran through the star-studded batting line-up and claimed a 6-fer in his first game against the Indians. From 109-0 to 131-7 was the collapse that the Indians had. There were literally on the mat to say the least.
