  • Kuldeep Yadav is giving an interview by the sidelines. Says that it feels good to be playing international cricket after a one-month break. Adds that the wicket is good to bat on, initially being a bit slow and there is some turn for the spinners. Says that he enjoyed bowling on the surface, just varying his lengths and pace. On being asked about the degree of turn available, Kuldeep says that there was a little bit of turn. On being asked about the score, don't know whether it is confidence or something else because he said two things in the same sentence - it is a good score and hope that we chase it down in 45-46 overs. So, good score for whom? You can think that during the break. See you back by 1715 local (1515 GMT).
  • India will be disappointed with the way they finished overall. They could have bowled out the Proteas for under 200 but they conceded way too many runs by their own standard. Even the highly reliable Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were ordinary while once again, the spinners brought the visitors back into the game. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal had combined figures of 20-0-79-5 which pegged the hosts back.
  • Finishing off things - one which India have struggled with for ages. They had the Proteas on the mat at 134/5 in the 28th over with Killer Miller gone - but Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo added 130 runs for the next 2 wickets in 129 balls - which helped the hosts get to a competitive total. India were not at their best on the field, missing a few run outs and even a catch of Faf. The captain's century might just give his side an edge on a sluggish deck.
  • In terms of the average score on this ground and the results favouring the side batting first and a slow pitch, 269 looks a pretty decent score. Hashim Amla departed cheaply but the 53-run stand between Quinton de Kock and Faf du Plessis set the platform. However, once de Kock was dismissed, the middle order lost its way, till the skipper found an able partner in Chris Morris.
  • A mixed feeling for both sides. South Africa will feel that 269 is a terrific score on a slow pitch but then that last over from Bhuvneshwar - just 5 runs from it - could be the talking point if this match goes down the wire.
  • 49.6 Ends the over brilliantly! Just five from the last over and a single to end it. A full toss on middle, Phehlukwayo hits it down to long on for a run. SOUTH AFRICA END WITH 269 FOR 8!
  • Morne Morkel strides out to the middle.
  • 49.6 OUT! RUN OUT! A full ball way outside off, Rabada goes for the big hit but misses. Andile Phehlukwayo at the other end wants the run. Dhoni underarms a throw to Bhuvi who collects it and whips the bails off at the non-striker's end to find Kagiso short. Also, the umpire signals it as a wide.
  • 49.5 A low full toss outside off, the batsman can't get him away as he hits it to long off for a run. The fielder there fumbles but does not concede an extra run.
  • 49.4 Excellent yorker on middle, Rabada jams it out towards the off side for a run. Just 4 from the first 4 deliveries.
  • 49.3 Wide outside off, Andile hits it off the toe end towards long off for a run.
  • Kagiso Rabada walks out to the middle.
  • 49.2 OUT! Faf du Plessis holes out! He will be disappointed though he could not put that away. He gets a full toss on off but unfortunately he hits it straight down the throat of Pandya at long off who does not drop many. The South African skipper walks off to a standing ovation. Yes, India did miss a review against him but since then he has looked fluent as ever. Nevertheless, a dot and a wicket to begin with for Kumar.
  • 49.1 Length outside off, Faf tries to go over covers but misses. A dot to begin with.
  • 48.6 FOUR! Up and over! 16 runs from the over! Unlucky is Bumrah here. He bowls a slower ball outside off, Phehlukwayo tries to go over the leg side but gets an outside edge over the keeper for a boundary. 27 from the last two overs. 280 looks possible now. 264/6
  • 48.5 A full toss and it is hit on the bounce to the long on fielder for a run.
  • 48.4 On a length around off, mistimes it towards deep mid-wicket for a couple. The 50-run stand is up, another important one.
  • 48.3 SIX! What a shot! He is seeing the ball like a football. He comes down the track and launches it over mid-wicket for a maximum.
  • 48.2 A length ball outside off, Faf slaps it through covers. The fielder there fumbles and they take two. 250 up for South Africa.
  • 48.1 A low full toss outside off, difficult to get those away. Andile times it well down the ground towards long off for a run.
  • 47.6 A very full ball on middle, Phehlukwayo heaves it across the line for a run. 248/6
  • 47.5 Fuller on middle, driven down to long on for a run.
  • 47.4 SIX! Faf has picked the bones out of that one! He comes down the track, picks the slower ball and sends it sailing over the mid-wicket fence.
  • 47.3 Driven through mid off by the batsman. One run added to the total.
  • 47.2 In the air... this should be an easy catch for Rahane but for some reason he does not go for it. A slower ball outside off, Faf du Plessis mistimes it up in the air towards sweeper cover. Rahane there, comes running in and then stops and takes the ball on the bounce. He then signals towards the sun, saying he could not sight it. A run taken by the batsmen. This could prove costly here.
  • 47.1 Excellent yorker to begin with on middle, Andile jams it out towards cover for a run.
  • 46.6 Shorter in length on middle, Faf pulls it off the inner half to square leg. A good over by Bumrah just 5 from it. 237/6
  • 46.5 Fuller on off, driven through covers for a run.
  • 46.4 Full and outside off, Faf drags it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 46.3 Driven towards the mid-on region. One run added to the total.
  • 46.2 Century for Faf du Plessis, his 9th in ODIs. Fantastic captain's knock. He flicks it towards square leg for a run. He jumps and pumps his fist in joy as he gets to the other end. Takes his helmet off and raises his bat to the crowd and his dressing room. South Africa will now hope for him to stay till the end.
  • 46.1 On the pads, Andile flicks it besides the keeper for a run.
  • 45.6 The batsman has punched that ball through the off side. One run added to the total. 9 runs from the over. 232/6
  • 45.5 One run shy of a hundred here, is the South African skipper. He punches this length ball through covers for a run.
  • 45.4 FOUR! Excellent placement! A length ball outside off, du Plessis guides it through backward point and short third man for a boundary. He moves onto 98.
  • 45.3 Slower ball outside off, du Plessis goes after it and hits it towards point for a couple.
  • 45.2 Back of a length on off, pushed down to long off for a run.
  • 45.1 Dances down the track, Kumar bowls it outside off. Andile swings but only manages to connect with thin air. A dot to start.
  • Faf du Plessis is getting some stretching done and is also having a little water. He has had back problems in the past and that maybe troubling him here.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back into the attack.
  • 44.6 A low full toss outside off, driven back towards mid off to keep strike. 223/6
  • 44.5 On a length around off, defended.
  • 44.4 A direct hit needed... but misses! Faf taps the length ball towards Kohli at covers and sets off for a run. Kohli is quick to the ball and has a shy but misses. Had he hit there du Plessis was a goner.
  • 44.3 Cut him into half! Bumrah goes wide of the crease and angles it on a length around off, and jags back in. Du Plessis is surprised by the movement and is beaten on the inside.
  • 44.2 On the pads, flicked fine down the leg side for a run.
  • 44.1 On a length around off, defended towards cover for a quick run.
  • Jasprit Bumrah is back into the attack.
  • 43.6 Comes down the track and drives it down to ground to end Chahal's spell with a run. He finishes with figures of 10-0-45-2. 219/6
  • 43.5 Driven through mid off by the batsman. One run added to the total.
  • 43.4 Tosses it up outside off, Phehlukwayo tries to defend but gets an inside edge and onto the pads.
  • 43.3 The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads.
  • 43.2 SIX! This should release the pressure a little. Phehlukwayo goes for the sweep and connects well. The ball sails over the leaping square leg fielder for a biggie.
  • 43.1 Floats it on middle, Andile defends it.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal is back on.
  • 42.6 A dot to finish, just one from this over and 3 from the last 2. Drags his length back outside off, it turns back in. Du Plessis chops it to covers. He finishes his quota with figures of 10-0-34-3. This is also his best in ODIs. Brilliant! 211/6
  • 42.5 Gives it air on off, defended solidly.
  • 42.4 Shorter in length on off, cut through point for a run.
  • 42.3 Three dots to start with, this will only build the pressure on Faf. Kuldeep bowls it on off, Andile defends it.
  • 42.2 Slower through the air on off, pushed to covers.
  • 42.1 The googly on off, turns back in. The batsman pushes it to covers.

  • 41.1 Shorter in length outside off, cut through point for a run.
  • Hardik Pandya is brought back into the attack.
  • 40.6 Tosses it up on off, defended. End of a successful over for India. 208/6
  • 40.5 The batsman has punched the ball off the back foot.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo makes his way to the middle.
  • 40.4 OUT! Kuldeep Yadav provides the much-needed breakthrough for India. Not the best of deliveries he has bowled but he won't mind. He bowls a dipping full toss outside off, Morris goes for the sweep but is beaten as the ball sneaks beneath the bat, bounces and then hits the off pole. The 74-run stand has been broken and an excellent innings from Morris comes to an end at the right time for India. They will now look to restrict the hosts under 250.
  • 40.3 Works it around the corner for a run.
  • 40.2 SIX! WHAT A SHOT! WOW! A tossed up delivery outside off, a little too full. Morris goes inside out and lofts it over the cover boundary for a biggie. He too concedes a boundary for the first time in this innings on the 50th ball that he bowls.

  • 39.5 A short delivery which has been pulled away. The batsmen have picked up a couple of runs
  • 39.4 Shorter in length way outside off, turns away further. Faf goes after it and he hits it towards cover. Kohli there gets a bad bounce as he is unable to stop it and the batsmen get two.
  • 39.3 The batsman works it down the leg side.
  • 39.2 No it is not and Faf survives. Chahal tosses it up on off, it turns away. Du Plessis lunges forward to defend it but is beaten by the away turn. Dhoni is quick to whip the bails off and appeals. They go upstairs and replays for a second shows the foot to be up in the air but another angle shows it is grounded. Not out flashes on the big screen.
  • Another stumping appeal against Faf has gone upstairs. The Indians aren't that excited. But hold on... is Faf's back foot in the air?
  • 39.1 Shorter in length outside off, pushed through covers for a run.
  • 38.6 Tosses it up on leg stump, Faf works it to mid-wicket. 3 runs from the over. 8 from the last two. The spinners pulling things back here. 191/5

  • Yuzvendra Chahal is back into the attack.
  • 36.6 FOUR! South Africa are getting a move on here. 27 from the last 3. Faf comes down the track, gets to the pitch of the ball and hits it through mid off for a boundary. 183/5

  • 36.3 Fuller on middle, driven back to the bowler.
  • 36.2 Length on off, Morris defends.

Virat Kohli from covers comes running in with an appeal. He is pretty sure Morris has edged it but gets no support from the rest. After having a word with the vice captain, Rohit, he reviews. They go upstairs and Snicko shows nothing.
  • Review time! There is an appeal for a caught behind down the leg side. Morris is the man in question. Kohli is quite interested but no one else is. Rohit then asks him to go for it and Kohli does so.
  • 35.2 Length on off, driven to mid off.
  • 35.1 Good work from Kuldeep! Bumrah bowls it short and outside off, Morris cuts it towards deep point. Kuldeep makes good ground to his left and pushes the ball back in play. The batsmen take two. Runs starting to flow here.

  • Drinks!

  • 31.4 BEATEN! The ball did straighten this time but no edge! Bumrah bowls it fuller outside off, Morris goes for the drive through covers but gets beaten.
  • 31.3 Goes wide of the crease and lands it on a length around off, Morris defends it. Bumrah would just want this to straighten a touch so that it can take edge.

He hits it uppishly towards Kohli at covers. The Indian skipper dives forward and he seems to have taken it inches above the ground. Miller though feels it has bounced as he stands his ground. The umpires come together and decide to take it upstairs. The soft signal is out and it is time for the replays which show Virat has his hands under the ball. It is clean as a whistle. The dangerous Miller is given his marching orders and South Africa's woes deepen.

De Kock tries to flick by walking down the track but misses and is hit on the front pad. The Indians put out a confident appeal and the umpire agrees with them. De Kock too, starts walking back without even thinking of a review. He should have, as it looked like it was missing the leg stump. • 7.3 OUT! It is a legal delivery! Bumrah draws first blood. He goes wide of the crease and bowls it on off, it shapes back in a touch. Amla tries to drive with not a lot of foot movement. He misses and the ball hits him on the pads. Bumrah makes a loud appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Amla straightaway starts walking back as he knows he is a goner. The umpires though ask him to wait as they want to check for the no ball. After a few replays, the third umpire rules it in favour of the bowler. An early wicket for India and it is the big one of Amla. Just the start they wanted.

  • 1.5 Comes around the wicket and angles it into the batsman. De Kock tucks it to square leg.

  • 0.1 Right on the money to begin with. On a length around off, de Kock lunges forward and defends it back to the bowler. No swing on offer for the bowler there.
  • We are all set for the action to begin. The Indian team is seen in a huddle and now it makes its way out to the middle. For South Africa, Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla will open the batting. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open the bowling for India. He has two slips in place. Here we go...
  • Pitch report - Shaun Pollock informs there are a few cracks but it won't make a lot of difference. Further adds the seamers will get a little carry with the new ball but later, a lot of cross seam deliveries will come into play. He feels the bowlers will try and bang it in and make it grip in the surface. He reckons it is a good decision to bat first as the wicket is at its best at the moment.
  • India (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni(w), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal.
  • South Africa (Playing XI) - Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock(w), Faf du Plessis(c), Aiden Markram, Jean-Paul Duminy, David Miller, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir.
  • Virat Kohli says the pitch looks pretty good and they were also looking to bat first. Reckons they still have a good enough team to bowl the opposition out. States they are a good chasing side. Mentions the first 10 overs are key, especially with the new ball. Further adds they are looking forward to the game as they will also have good support from the crowd here. Ends by saying the mood in the change room is good, everybody is positive heading into the game.
  • Faf du Plessis says they will bat first. Adds further it looks like a pretty good wicket. Mentions it speeds up after the first 10 overs. States there is rain around but he is unsure about the dew factor. Informs Aiden Markram will bat at no. 4 in place of AB de Villiers. Ends by saying Imran Tahir has been key to their success as he as been their wicket taker.
  • TOSS - South Africa win the toss and opt to bat first.
  • South Africa on the other hand, have been dealt with a blow as AB de Villiers will not be available for this game. However, they will still back themselves as they are in brilliant form, especially at home in the ODI format. They have won 17 out of the last 19 games. Nevertheless, it is going to be a mouthwatering encounter between the two. It is a battle between the bowling of South Africa and the star-studded batting line up of India. Hello and welcome to the first ODI in Durban. Stay tuned for the toss and teams in a while.
  • After the Test series we now turn our attentions to the limited over format. A format in which India will probably back themselves to get the better of South Africa. Also, they will be heading into the game with a lot of confidence and they would look to carry forward the momentum they gained after the victory in the last Test.
  • Right! Not quite the number 1 vs number 2 contest one would have hoped for. India have played like Kings in Kingsmead, blowing South Africa away. Will more of this follow in the second ODI? We head over to Centurion for the lone day game in this ODI series - at 1000 local (0800 GMT). That will be played on Sunday, 4th February, 2018. Do join us then. There will be a couple of other matches before that game but the one currently ongoing is the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Test series where it is difficult to say who is putting up a fight and who is the underdog. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
  • Victorious Indian captain, Virat Kohli says that the first game of a series is very important and the team wanted to bring the confidence from Johannesburg (the third Test where India won). Adds that when they restricted South Africa to 270, they realized that they are in with a chance. Feels sorry for Dhawan but nice for Rahane as he sealed the number 4 spot. Agrees that chasing is fun, as it suits his game style more. On his century celebration, he smiles and says that he had not scored a century in South Africa and to do that in the very first game means great. On his knee injury, he says that he felt pain in his groin as well and players need to be careful in long tours like these. Is proud of his bowling unit - Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah and the two spinners. Praises Faf du Plessis for his innings too. Is happy that the two young spinners were bravely flighting the ball, in spite of playing their first game in South Africa. Is even happier that both bowlers were setting their own fields, which indicates their confidence. On Rahane, he says that watching him bat gave him confidence at the other end.
  • South African skipper, Faf du Plessis says that he went to the dressing room during the run chase not to HIDE, but because he wanted to check his finger. On his back, he says he is fine, not a worry. Blames the poor batting by his side for the loss. Praises India for their bowling but sternly tells that the Proteas were 60-70 runs short because India have a very good batting lineup. Is happy of the stands with Morris and Phehlukwayo but still, laments the batting effort in general. On the bowling, Faf says that he tried all that he could to try and pick up a wicket but Kohli was too good. Hopes that his side learns a thing or two from the Indian batting in this game.
  • Agreed, it is just the first match but once the new balls got older, the Proteas simply struggled to keep the Indians quiet. Singles were conceded easily and it was not till the 30th over when Rahane and Kohli actually decided to try and finish the game by the 40th over that the visitors pressed on the charge button. To win by 6 wickets, that too, with a proper batsman short, in a foreign venue, just goes to show the volumes of confidence, this team is in. Time for the presentation...
  • Really seems like an India-Sri Lanka ODI match all over once again. Pitch looked subcontinental, yet India found ways of losing two quick wickets. Then, the 189-run stand between Kohli and Rahane sealed the deal. South Africa have a lot of questions to answer in their quest for Mission WC 2019 and this is definitely not their best step.
  • Two fabulous knocks, one team goes on to win. Faf du Plessis' century lifted South Africa to 269. At the halfway stage, it seemed competitive. But halfway through the run chase, it just seemed like a respectable total defending which, the Proteas could try and pick some wickets.
  • 45.3 FOUR! India go 1-0 up. In some style. Dominated South Africa at a venue where the Indians have not won a single ODI before tonight. A short ball around off, Dhoni swivels and pulls it through square leg. No one bothers to chase. Everyone wants this done and dusted with. Let us shake hands. VICTORY BY 6 WICKETS AND 27 BALLS TO SPARE!
  • 45.2 A full toss outside off, pushed back to the bowler.
  • 45.1 Outside off, pushed to the off side for a quick single.
  • 44.6 Huge LBW shout, nothing in it. Full and straight, Dhoni misses his flick and is hit on the pads. Amla thinks this would have been worth a review but Hawk Eye shows it to be missing leg. 265/4
  • 44.5 Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off for a single.
  • 44.4 That ball has struck the batsman on the thigh pad. They manage to come back for the second. Leg byes given by the umpire.
  • MS Dhoni walks out now, officially the finisher.
  • 44.3 OUT! Kohli falls. After a valiant century. A short ball outside off, Kohli looks to pull but mistimes it miles in the air. Kagiso Rabada runs across to his left from fine leg and takes it comfortably. Kohli cannot take his team home but his side is nearly home. End of another magnificent innings.
  • 44.2 Ridiculous review. Pandya had walked across his stumps and missed a straight delivery, a full toss, getting pinged on the pads. Phehlukwayo asked the question, only to be ignored. He convinced the stand-in skipper, Amla to go for the review, who decides to waste some time. Impact is umpire's call, hitting not even one of the three stumps. A single taken in the meanwhile.
  • Oh wow. A review at this time of the game.
  • 44.1 A short ball outside off, pull-slapped through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 43.6 Full and outside off, Hardik gets across and defends. 260/3

  • 43.2 The batsman has punched that ball through the off side.
  • 43.1 A short ball outside off, Kohli looks to pull but misses.
  • 42.6 DROPPED! The substitute can be forgiven. The match is nearly over. But he has robbed Phehlukwayo off a wicket. A short ball outside off, Kohli looks to pull but gets a top edge which goes towards deep square leg. Substitute Khaya Zondo comes running in, gets to the ball but conveniently misses it. The ball goes through his hands, hits his chest and drops down. A single taken. Kohli looks furious with himself. Wants to finish unbeaten. 257/3
  • 42.5 Ahhh... a short ball outside off, Virat looks to swat it but the ball goes off the top edge and lands beside him. Kohli asks the square leg umpire whether it would have been wided had he left it alone. In all probability it would have been.
  • Hardik Pandya walks in at number 5 for the finishing duties.
  • 42.4 OUT! No double century stand, no 8-wicket win. South Africa have picked up a wicket more because Rahane has got bored of net practice. A length ball on middle, Rahane looks to go over the top but there is no timing on that. The ball goes off the inner half of the bat towards long on where Imran Tahir takes it calmly. What a partnership. Worth 189. Just 14 more needed.
  • 42.3 Full on middle, flicked through mid-wicket where the fielder makes a good diving stop.
  • 42.2 Excellent yorker, dug out back to the bowler.
  • 42.1 Full and outside off, Rahane chips it down the ground but Hashim Amla races across to his right and makes a decent stop.
  • 41.6 Down the leg side, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple. The throw comes at the non-striker's end but Rabada is the last bit interested, standing in the middle of the pitch, apparently too bored to move a muscle. Quinton de Kock runs at the stumps at the keeper's end, shouts, 'KG! KG!' indicating him to go to the stumps but the look on the bowler's face says it all - What is the point? South Africa look demolished. 256/2
  • 41.5 Outside off, dabbed to third man for a single.
  • 41.4 Works it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 41.3 The batsman has played it towards mid-wicket.
  • 41.2 FOUR! A net session is going on. A young fast bowler comes on to bowl, someone who has troubled Kohli in the Tests. And the Indian skipper treats him like a rookie. Just lofts a length ball over cover for a boundary. 250 UP FOR INDIA. Almost there...
  • 41.1 A length ball around off, defended to the leg side.
  • Kagiso Rabada is back on. For how long?
  • 40.6 A short ball, pulled through mid-wicket for a single. 12 from the over. 248/2
  • 40.5 FOUR! ODI 100 NUMBER 33! 67 short? Another brilliant knock. Gets there in style too, reaching out to a half volley and driving it through the covers. His reaction makes it seem that he wanted this badly - scoring a hundred in the first match of the series and setting the tone. He roars. And more often than not, when he roars, the opposition cows.
  • 40.4 Banged in short, pulled through mid-wicket for one.
  • 40.3 Pushes this down to long on for a run.

  • 40.1 Outside off, punched through mid on for a single.
  • Andile Phehlukwayo comes back on for some bowling practice or some batting hits for the batsmen.
  • POWERPLAY 3 time. Does it matter? 5 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle. This match is almost like 5 matches left in the series for SA.
  • 39.6 Flicks this through the leg side for a run. 10-0-51-0 are the figures for Imran Tahir. Totally nullified tonight. 236/2
  • 39.5 The batsman has played it to the point region. They pick up a single.
  • 39.4 Comes down the track and swings it through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 39.3 Driven through mid on by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 39.2 Outside off, steered straight to short third man.
  • 39.1 Full and outside off, Kohli reaches out and has a hack, only to miss and get a thick inside edge to the leg side.
  • 38.6 FOUR! Easy peasy. Waits for the short ball, arches his back and guides it over the keeper to the third man fence. 15 from the over. 38 more needed from 66 balls now. 232/2
  • 38.6 WIDE. Slips out of the hand, goes down the leg side, Jinx misses his flick.
  • 38.5 SIX! THRASH! A length ball outside off, Rahane just swings it cleanly over long on! The stand is worth 160 from 160 balls!

  • Some experimentation from Faf du Plessis. He gets on Aiden Markram on to bowl. Looks like an offie.
  • DRINKS BREAK. Another chase, the master presents a case. 269 is not a bad score on this track but the Indians are making it look like a stroll in the park. This is not the best bowling attack in the world but it is not an attack which can pick only 2 wickets, that too, in its home conditions. The bowling is looking ordinary and Faf du Plessis needs some inspiration to turn this around. As far as India are concerned, they would be pretty confident about this. Hardly broke a sweat.

  • 26.5 Excellent. Flicks this through mid-wicket, calls for two confidently, takes JP Duminy on who has to dive to his right to stop the ball and misfields. He then tries to get up and have a shy at the bowler's end but it is pretty wide. Faf du Plessis gets across to back up from cover and allows it through. There is a chance for the third but Rahane raises his hand up for a negative.

  • 25.3 Full and outside off, Rahane comes down the track and drives it straight back down the ground. The ball ricochets off the stumps towards extra cover and the batsmen take a single. Looks like Imran Tahir did not touch the ball at all because no one appealed. Kohli was not in his crease.
  • 25.2 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. Spirited effort by the fielder to save runs for his team.
  • 25.1 Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single. Half century for Virat Kohli. Calm and composed. No hurry.

  • 24.2 Almost a wicket! Kohli taps it down and looks to run but the ball goes off the bottom edge which rolls behind. Virat looks back, sees that the ball is well past the stumps and now wants the run. But he is sent back. Quinton de Kock comes running in and kicks the ball at the stumps but Kohli is back in.
  • 24.1 Full and around off, watchfully defended.
  • Desperation times for Faf du Plessis. Here comes Kagiso Rabada for his second spell.

  • 21.5 Once again AR is down the track but this time he works it through mid on for a run.

  • 20.2 FOUR! TAKE THAT! India are not letting any spinner struggle, let alone a part-time one. This is the first ball that Rahane is facing off Duminy and what does he do? Jumps down the track and smashes it straight back over the bowler for a boundary! 159 more needed from 178 balls.
  • 20.1 Full on middle, driven through mid on for a single.
  • Interesting. JP Duminy to roll his arm over.
  • 19.6 Outside off, watchfully defended. 106/2

  • 19.4 Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. One run added to the total.

  • 19.2 Full on middle, pushed towards mid on for a quick single.
  • 19.1 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 18.6 FOUR! What a shot. A length ball outside off, Kohli punches this down the ground, seemingly for a single but Morne Morkel is too late to get around and that will be a boundary! 100 UP FOR INDIA, 169 more needed from 186 balls. 101/2
  • 18.5 That stays horribly low, Virat just about brings his bat down in time and gets a thick bottom edge. A second late and it would have been Kohli LBW.
  • 18.4 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 18.3 FOUR! Far from ideal in any format of the game. Miles down the leg side, Kohli just puts his bat to it and the ball goes off the edgy portion to the fine leg fence. The stand is worth 30 from 38 balls.
  • 18.2 Outside off, Kohli looks to defend but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. Good call from one of the batsman to say a clear and loud 'NO'.
  • 18.1 A length ball around the off stump, Rahane walks down the track and chips it towards deep square leg for a single.
  • 17.6 Terrific stop! Full toss and high outside off, Kohli drives it beautifully through the covers but David Miller throws himself to his left and stops it! 92/2

  • 16.6 The batsman gets up on his toes to play that one. 86/2
  • 16.6 WIDE. A meaningless bouncer, way over the head, left alone. The umpire stretches his arms.
  • 16.5 Good awareness and Rahane might have been out! Oh dear... not expected from Rahane at least. Full and outside off, Ajinkya drives it straight back once again and this time, Morris picks the ball up in his followthrough and has a shy at the striker's end. Misses. He has his hands on his head and replays show why. Rahane actually tried to get his left foot in first and then got the bat in. Neither did the foot come in nor the bat, when the throw was fired.
  • 16.4 Super shot. Full and straight, Jinx drives it straight back to where it came from, past the stumps at the other end. • 16.2 A length ball outside off, Rahane slices it behind point to third man for a single.
  • 16.1 Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off.
  • DRINKS BREAK. India looking pretty comfortable at the moment. Chasing a required run rate of 5.4, they are going at 5 runs an over, without much fuss. Both wickets gone down have been due to poor cricket from the batsmen - Rohit just throwing it away without moving his feet while Dhawan, unfortunate to be run out by his skipper. The South African opening bowlers did threaten to pick a wicket or two but since the backup bowlers have come on, there has not been any potential danger.
  • 15.6 Down the leg side, tucked towards square leg for a run. 81/2
  • 15.5 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 15.5 WIDE. Slips this down the leg side, Rahane misses his pull.
  • 15.4 That looks very, very close. On a length outside off, coming in sharply, Virat walks down the track and misses his flick, getting hit pretty low on the pads. Phehlukwayo starts to shout but then bails out. Not quite sure why the Proteas did not go for the review. That looked pretty adjacent. Waiting for the Hawk Eye.
  • 15.3 Full on middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 15.2 Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single.
  • 15.1 Outside off, Rahane looks to push and run but gets a bottom edge to the off side. Looks for a run but is sent back.
  • Time for Andile Phehlukwayo.
  • 14.6 A bouncer outside off, Virat lets it through. 75/2
  • 14.5 Brilliant running. Virat pushes at this away from his body and gets it through the covers for another brace. The throw comes in to Morris again and this time he collects it but ouch, gets a blow on his thumb. That looks nasty.
  • KingVish - You should never throw your wickets away in such matches. You never know - rain could come in any time and the you might lose out on Duckworth-Lewis method just because of a wicket down around the break. @KingVish - Hmmm... really thoughtful, though I believe one should never throw his wicket away.
  • 14.4 A short ball outside off, Kohli gets on top of the bounce and pulls it through mid-wicket. That should have been just a single but Morris fumbles at the bowler's end and concedes an overthrow.
  • 14.3 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 14.2 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 14.1 Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
  • 13.6 And again... another one skids straight on, Jinx tries to work it to the leg side but gets another inside edge onto his pads. 71/2
  • 13.5 Ahhh.... close. A googly on middle, Rahane looks to flick but is hurried on. Gets a thick inside edge which hits him on the pads. That nearly skidded through.

  • 12.3 A bouncer outside off, Kohli lets that go.
  • Ajinkya Rahane walks in at number 4, replacing Dhawan.
  • 12.2 OUT! LBW shout, turned down. But South Africa still get a wicket! Superb fielding. A length ball outside off, Dhawan swings wildly across the line and misses, getting hit on the pads. Morris starts to appeal but then bails out, recognizing the inside edge. But then, out of nowhere, Virat Kohli is halfway down the pitch for the single. Poor Dhawan has no idea and is suddenly seeing his skipper haring towards him when the southpaw is busy searching for the ball. No option other than to sacrifice your wicket for the best batsman in your team. Dhawan starts to run but gives up halfway. Because Aiden Markram has swooped in on that ball and already had a shy at the bowler's end. Bang. Hits. Dhawan is not impressed with Kohli who is looking angrily at him. Dhawan gestures to him about what was the necessity for that run and then walks off angrily. Absolute waste of a wicket and the 34-run stand has been broken. India need 203 runs from 226 balls.
  • 12.1 Outside off, on a length, steered to short third man for a single.
  • 11.6 Lucky to get away with that. A rank bad ball, short and outside off, the attempted googly, Shikhar pulls it with disdain but finds the only man in the ring on the leg side - Faf du Plessis at short mid-wicket. The Protea skipper cannot control his laughter. That was a boundary for the taking. 66/1
  • 11.5 Outside off, placed wide of cover for one more.
  • 11.4 Full and outside off, driven down to long off for a run.
  • 11.3 FOUR! Lovely shot indeed! Short and outside off, Dhawan actually sits on a knee and cuts it between point and short third man for a boundary! 206 more needed from 231 balls. The stand is worth 31 from 30 balls now.
  • 11.2 Outside off, Kohli walks across and flicks it towards mid-wicket for a single.
  • 11.1 Full and outside off, driven straight to short extra cover.
  • Early introduction of spin. Normally Faf du Plessis likes to bring this guy a little bit later than this. Here is Imran Tahir.
  • 10.6 FOUR! Nicely done! A short ball outside off, Dhawan waits for the ball to come and deftly cuts it over the keeper and vacant slip region to the third man fence! Indifferent start from Chris Morris - 10 from his opening over. Dhawan has moved to 30 from 25 balls with 5 fours. 59/1

  • 9.4 Outside off, quietly lets that go.

  • 8.4 FOUR! BRILLIANT! That is a wonderful shot. Beautifully controlled. Full and outside off, Kohli comes forward and drives it on the up through mid off and to the fence down the ground! The stand is worth 13 from 13 balls.
  • 8.3 Outside off, played straight to point.

  • 7.6 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot. 42/1
  • 7.5 FOUR! Not the most pleasing of shots but India will not mind. • 6.5 FOUR! Super shot. Full on middle, Dhawan pushes this down the ground and beats mid on comfortably!
  • 6.4 On middle and leg, Dhawan looks to defend but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls back but well past the stumps.
  • Virat Kohli walks in now, at number 3, replacing Rohit.
  • 6.3 OUT! There comes the first breakthrough! Morne provides it. A nothing shot from Rohit. The ball is on a length outside off and the batsman just looks to go over the top without bothering to move his feet. Big mistake. He has survived a couple of close calls so far, with the edges missing the stumps. But third time he is not so lucky. The ball goes off the leading edge and is miles in the air. Quinton de Kock - my word - that is some catch. Calls clearly and loudly - and runs towards point and takes a very good catch. Still a decent start from India. 237 more needed from 261 balls.
  • 6.2 Outside off, on a length, pushed straight to point.
  • 6.1 Nearly drags it on! On a length outside off, Rohit slashes hard without moving his feet and gets a thick bottom edge which just misses the stumps towards fine leg! A couple taken. Rohit moves to 20 from 28 balls.

  • 5.4 Put away the balls which are in your zone and keep the good balls out. That is what the Indians are doing. A length ball on off, Sharma blocks it.
  • 5.3 FOUR! Up and over! This is guy is so pleasing to watch if he gets going. Full and on middle, Sharma nonchalantly lofts it over mid on for another boundary.
  • 5.2 Good bowling! On a length around off, Sharma defends it.
  • 5.1 Back of a length on off, Sharma gets on top of the bounce and defends it onto the ground.
  • 4.6 Nicely done by Miller! Sharma drives this full ball past the bowler. He sets off for a run. Miller in that region runs to his right and makes a diving stop. Saved atleast two for his side there. 26/0
  • 4.5 Shorter in length outside off, Rohit makes a watchful leave.
  • 4.4 Length ball on off, kept out.
  • 4.3 Full and wide outside off this time. Dhawan mistimes his drive towards extra cover for a run. He initially asks Rohit to wait but seeing the ball beat the diving fielder at covers they go for it.
  • 4.2 FOUR! You don't bowl to an Indian batsmen there. A half-volley on the pads, too easy for Dhawan. He flicks it through square leg and the ball races away.
  • 4.1 Fuller and outside off, Dhawan drives it firmly to the man at short covers. An excellent shot but for no runs.
  • 3.6 FOUR! Bad ball and Rabada pays the price for it. A full toss on the pads, Rohit tickles it fine down the leg side and gets a boundary. 9 runs from the over. 20/0
